Starfield Dev: "Players Are Gonna Lose Their Minds"

I like how From software were quiet AF. The finished product spoke for itself. These statements will do more harm than good.
In terms of marketing Starfield is keeping it a lot closer to that model than to the marketing blitz hype machine of something like Cyberpunk. I mean the game is 7 months out and we still haven't seen a single screenshot of actual gameplay. There is a very calculated decision to keep this game under wraps until LATE.

But you can also tell there's a lot of confidence behind this one. These comments made by a dev aren't part of the marketing hype cycle. Nor are the rumors that this game sparked a bidding war between Sony and MS that led to the buyout. That stuff isn't hype but it all speaks to the fact that the people behind this game are VERY confident it's going to make a big impression once they pull back the curtain.

Until then, none of us can really say, but I would be surprised if it's completely just smoke.

I honestly can't get "hyped" pre-release for really anything anymore unfortunately after so many fails. Rather just wait and see what the finished product is and see if they can actually deliver before allowing them to fuck me in the ass with their marketing speak for months.

Ah the good ol' days, the first experience I had was on PS3. The atmosphere, breathtaking... And then 80 hours in you find out a quest is bugged and you can't reload a save before it because you've been playing for too long.
I had the same issue and I was right at the end of the story...

I may be missing the meme, is this game intended to be released this year?
I see a ton of posts with folks that are saying this will be a contender for GOTY but I cannot find a listing on GameStop, BestBuy, or Amazon.

What gives?

It’s quality is unknown as always with unreleased games with too little content, but it’s a huge release and the first new IP by Bethesda in 25 years. It’s by far my most anticipated release this year. Can’t wait to see gameplay!

Whelp, I didn't check Steam my bad.
Thanks for the info!

Since its MS First Party and on gamepass they would still plan to release physical for XBX and XBS, right?

I do hope this game is as "fire" as Skyrim was back then, tough order but I reamain cautiously optimistic that the game will in fact be:

This drip feed campaign to stir the hype pot is more annoying than other hype machines for sure. Just give us content and stop with the nonsense Bethesda.
At this point I'm guessing they're waiting for E3 to do a big blowout. Stinks, but in line with what Bethesda has done in the past.

the scope of the game is not an excuse for releasing a broken product.

Frankly, it's quite naive to think otherwise given Bethesda awful track record.

The higher the complexity of any software the greater chance for bugs. With the massive world w/ persistent objects (you can leave a sword in a chest in Skyrim and come back to it 100 hours later and it's there), the massive branching storylines, the fact you can kill NPCs that would be involved in missions, etc. while not an "excuse" is not something anyone being rational should ignore.

But to call the games incomplete (unless you just mean haven't been QA'd enough) is just sort of ridiculous. That's why I brought up how huge and complex they are.

The complexity of their games, and how much I love what it does for them, is why I am more patient with Bethesda than other companies. Also I am a PC gamer and have just never had big issues with them in the first place.

Things like the PS3 version of Skyrim are just sort of unforgivable though I agree w/ that, and they deserve tons of criticism for that and other things. Not saying they don't.

They can't show me anything that Star Citizen hasn't already wowed me with. I guess the difference is that Starfield will actually have a finished product though.

Amazing lack of, what is it again, ah yes, concern for showing so little. So selective, so ironic.

Not that one should be concerned, even if at bare bones being just Skyrim in space, that is what some want, and it will do well on that merit alone. Personally, I want a little more and something a bit more fresh from them (not to be confused with innovative) added mechanics wise, than that same old Fallout/Skyrim formula in new paint.

Thinking we should get it this time, hopefully.

I don't remember one where he said we're going to lose our minds with his game.

This is one employees "profile" on bethesda.com and he's excited about the game... like come on, lol

But then you get to that point where systems really start to come online, and things start to work well, and gel, and you see everything forming into the vision you had when you first started on this crazy journey. When that first happened with Starfield, it really was an, “Oh. Oh wow. Yeah. This is… something really special. Players are going to lose their minds.” Now we just have to finish it!

OMG PLEASE STOP BEING EXCITED AND THINKING PEOPLE WILL LOVE THE GAME YOU DESIGNED!

Trolling? It's Bethesda we're talking about. Do you actually think they will deliver a polished experience this time? Maybe it's you who should take off your fanboy goggles for a second, but given that you're in here and compulsively responding to everyone that is not in line with the hype I highly doubt it.

Nah. Your comment wasn’t about the usual Bethesda launch bugs. You specifically said it was going to be like Cyberpunk 2077 level of disaster.

moving goalposts, eh?

Nothing that the developers of Star Citizen showed has wowed me. For the past 11 years of active development, we are still seeing only snippets of broken gameplay. I have more faith in Bethesda to actually deliver.

People talking about how we haven’t seen Starfield yet and it’s 7 months out, but what about Redfall? That suppose to be in the summer! June E3 and launch the same day perhaps?

It usually is just one dev saying these things about their game and gaming media running with these quotes.

We are told to be excited for this game having seen what, a few snippets of gameplay and a bunch of artwork.

Cyberpunk taught many a lesson about hype for games until its out. Devs can be excited for their work. I don't deny them that but when it comes to game releases nowadays its a case wait and see and keeping my hype in check until the game is out.
I'm not falling for this 'bestest game ever' shit.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I'm almost guaranteeing that game isn't coming out in the summer window. Either Q4 2022 or Spring 2023.

Nobody cares about your opinion. I’m interested in the game so u can move around
That's fine, but you asked why no one is talking about Redfall. Given the silence it's most likely been delayed. And the teaser didn't really show much to get people excited. Hell, if it's good I'll check it out, but right now I couldn't care less.
