How PlayStation Plus Compares to Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online

Thanks for your concern. Sadly for you, they're not bleeding any money. People are also still buying games. Xbox is posting record numbers every year :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:
Let me educate you on another topic: metrics.

If you sold 2 apples one day and the next day you sold 4, this is 100% increase in sales.
The other seller sold 500 apples and then 550. A 10% increase in sales.

Which one is the more successful seller? You or the other guy? Yet you posted record sales increase.
Why xbox doesn't present units sold numbers like the other two?
All I see is that is games are always selling less units on Xbox. Record numbers, right? :messenger_sunglasses:

I asked a question and then you went on a completely different "diatribe", okay?

Again you are ignoring the fact the MS's CFO has said xbox is profitable but okay.

Also you want to show where software revenue has declined for xbox cause of GP?
Is there a link for this declaration? Even if it profitable is by a small margin, all I stated is "two services that are profitable vs one that is sustainable, no lies there.
The article I quoted is from November 2021, Is there any article since then pointing out that Xbox is now profitable?

Looks like you guys need to understand a bit more about market and how money works, it will help you a lot in the future.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is why, it's important to take economic classes in college.
Or else, you will embarrass yourself like this.

If you know anything about the market, you wouldnt have pushed this shit narrative.

Stop trying to act like you are smart.

Well, let's break this simple market math for you.

Sony sold 40+m ps4 in Europe. They also sold 9+m in Japan. Total of 49m+ consoles sold.

Xbox is very weak in Europe. They managed to sell 12.29m Xbox one. They also sold 114k in Japan.

With that wide gap, Xbox won't be able to compete with PS, in term of 3rd party sales. Because PS sold more consoles, due to having control in those 2 market (ps1-ps2-ps3).

And as for console profitability, we talked about this already.

Gamepass being sustainable, is something we already knew long time.

Your math for the 2 services, includes psnow+ps+.
If you add xbox live gold to gamepass, it would not only have tons of users, it would also bring alot of profits. But both service are separate. So people only focus on gamepass, and leave Xbox live gold alone, while they add ps+ and psnow.

You play games. That is like going to a movie. Its the same as experiencing a bought disc movie.
That is what you do, when you access a game. Unless you are a collector and don't play games. Then yes, subscription service is useless to you.

You are buying playtime. Your owned games, act as a replay to you.
Most people, play the game, and be done with it. Sell it, and get their investments back. Others, store it , and never use it again.
Its no different than a subscription service.

If I boot up, GOTG, and finished the game, that is it. I am not gonna play it again. I know the game, I play it. Finished it. There is nothing more, I can get it.

You get 5 years of gameplay. You dont sit down like old lady, and stare at the screen. You play the games, the service has.
What ever you collected, means nothing. If you played it. The value is gone. You opened the game, and finished it. There is nothing more there.

Unless you are the type of people, that likes to play the same games, again and again. It's really means nothing.

Your bought game, is like watching the same movie you can watch on netflix, for the 19th time.

Over the years, means collecting dusts. Because every year, there is a new game. Your 5 year old games, will get replaced, by the new games.

I have 700+ digital games, and close to 50 disc games for OG xbox.
I dont play them, because I am busy with the new games that come out this year. They are making me busy. I dont have the time, to open those 700+ games.

That is the value of your bought games. Unless, you have a game that you like alot, you wont pay attention to them, once you finish them.

You dont have anything to show for it, other than bragging rights.
Are you reading what you are quoting?

Its not like read it anyway.
It was a waste of time, replying that info to you. Since you won't get it.

Anyway, one last time.

Whether you buy the game, or access it through subscription service, you will have the same experience.

That is it. There is no difference, like you claim.

No I won't have the same experience.

1. No game subscription service offers games at the quality level I buy.

2. If I stopped paying the rental fee I would lose years worth of games.

So it's not the same experience.

You know, the games that you bought, would be on the service?
So far, most of Sony big hits were on psnow.
MS is doing their day1 exclusives on gamepass.
I wonder, what would be your excuse next time.
2. If I stopped paying the rental fee I would lose years worth of games.
Do you think you are getting amnesia?

How do you forget, all the games you played on those years?

First sign of ignorance, is believing a big installment is saving. When in reality, you are pretty much locked in to that service.

2nd thing, is making $120 an easy money.

You are really out of touch from reality buddy.
$120 is not a lot of money. But go on making installments and paying more if that makes you happy. Americans saying that $120 is a lot to a Brazilian lmao, this must be bizarro world.
Gotta be dumb to pay more for the same.

Sheez, dude.

No one is paying more, if you do it monthly. You simply recoup that money, from your next paycheck.

You are the type, that savings ads work on.

I don't know what level of quality you're expecting. Just feels like you're putting arbitrary 'quality' walls here to be a contrarian.

The one publisher which exclusively put all of its releases on a subscription service is the one that had the highest rated games last year and won publisher of the year via Metacritic.

The 'subscription services lead to reduced game quality' point some like to make is objectively incorrect.

Gamepass doesn't come close to the quality of games I buy.

LOL I know you aren't trying to post the terrible 2021 games as a metric!
One of the games on that list was EXCLUSIVE to PlayStation in 2021.

Shall we compare the averages of the last 10 years?
(Spoiler it would be bad for Xbox)

Ok, I can buy that as your personal opinion. But objectively speaking anyone who tries to say that subscription services devalue games or reduce their qualities is *FACTUALLY* wrong, as proven by the cold hard facts of 2021 games.

LOL I know you aren't trying to post the terrible 2021 games as a metric!

Yes, considering it was the most recent year we passed. It's not a cherry picked result, it's literally the most recent one we have.

One of the games on that list was EXCLUSIVE to PlayStation in 2021.

If you're talking about Deathloop, that was counted in Bethesda Softworks which is #6

Shall we compare the averages of the last 10 years?
(Spoiler it would be bad for Xbox)

Game Pass wasn't even around 10 years ago.

It comes down to opinion which makes facts irrelevant.

Again 2021 was a pretty bad year for gaming.

It doesn't matter if Gamepass was around 10 years ago when a large amount of its games are 10+ years old.

Xbox One lost 2:1 to PS4 and Xbox Series is going the same route. What has less potential buyers have less sales, so the "record breaking" is not that impressive if you sell much less compared to the competition.

My math is simply Nintendo, Sony and MS. MS is sustainable and PSNow alone (not counting plus) is profitable with its limited market, as it's not available everywhere like Gamepass is. This will change with the merge between Now and Plus. I know a lot of people who will just up their subs since the value is there. Annually it's also cheaper then Gamepass, If we consider Sony market share, it's a no brainer how much more potential for profit Plus tiers now have.

We are pretty much on the same page as you said on profits vs sustainability and how Xbox is yet to turn profits. I don't see the reason for the anger. :messenger_sunglasses:

Ok, but that 10 year comment doesn't have any relevance. I literally just showed you that the publisher which puts all of its games on game pass day 1 in 2021 is the one that won publisher of the year last year lol. I'm just trying to show you with objective facts and figures that games on a subscription service do not necessarily have to devalue or lessen their quality.

Also, no, a large amount of its games are not 10 years old lol, the lions share of games on GP (300+) are from the Xbox One generation which didn't even start until 2013.

You're just saying random things trying to make them stick, please stop lol. I'm starting to believe you don't actually know much about Game Pass the service.

It does when you are running with MS winning best 2021 publisher when that(as you know) normally doesn't happen.

Nobody is trying to devalue or lessen what GP has I said I AS IN ME buy higher quality games than what GP offers.
Never said that someone wasn't able to see things differently.

It does have a large(like I said large) amount of 10+ year old games.
I really don't want to look up a list to prove it but will if need be.

Understand, where each console is strong at first.

Xbox One lost 2:1 to PS4 and Xbox Series is going the same route. What has less potential buyers have less sales, so the "record breaking" is not that impressive if you sell much less compared to the competition.
And x360 was going neck to neck with the ps3, after the massive record the ps2 had.
That record breaking means nothing, in the market. Once you have what people want, you will attract new customers easily. And xbox series has that, this gen.

My math is simply Nintendo, Sony and MS.
The market doesnt work that way. Nintendo has the wii u, after the massive success, which was wii. Xbox one was a massive let down, after x360. Ps3 took a noose dive, after the record break, which was the ps2.
As long as those variable exist, you cant predict the market.

That was xbox fate. But that didnt happen.

MS is sustainable and PSNow alone (not counting plus) is profitable with its limited market, as it's not available everywhere like Gamepass is
Do you unnderstand how many users psnow has, and how many do they pay? Cuz, that is 1/8 of gamepass subscribers, and 1/3 of gamepass price. If you do the math, you should know, which one brings more money.

This will change with the merge between Now and Plus.
Xbox live gold still exist.

I know a lot of people who will just up their subs since the value is there
That is half/half. Depend on what the games are. We wont know that for now. Since we have no clue about the games.

Annually it's also cheaper then Gamepass, If we consider Sony market share, it's a no brainer how much more potential for profit Plus tiers now have.
Cheaper, doesnt mean it will generate more money. You get more money from monthly users, than one time payment users. You should know this, if you have knowledge in business.

for every 2 gamepass user, there is 3 Spartacus users. You will need 28.8m gamepass users to bring the same amount as 48m Spartacus yearly users.

We are pretty much on the same page as you said on profits vs sustainability and how Xbox is yet to turn profits. I don't see the reason for the anger. :messenger_sunglasses:
Gamepass alone is sustainable, if you dont add xbox live gold. If you do what Psnow, and ps+ is doing, you are getting a profit.
but you wont understand that.

Here's what I get from his comments to you:
Well over 100 GotY awards, Metacritic Publisher of the Year, highest Metacritic average ever are NOT objective facts! The only objective fact in determining a game's quality is whether or not it says SONY when you boot it up. :pie_roffles: :pie_roffles: :pie_roffles:

There are dozens of studios, which make games, which have more quality than what they do.

EA and Ubisoft were part of that world, before the MTX.

So far, I have yet to see games like the witcher 3, red dead redemption 2, gtav, skyrim, arkham like games from Sony.

Spiderman was the only one that was close to arkham games.

If you want a full breakdown by console, genre, feature, FPS boost etc, you can do all that on this page:

No interest in Nintendo whatsoever. Sony's subscription tiers offers me nothing of value whatsoever. Microsoft's Game Pass is by far the best for two simple reasons - day one first party games and day one Indies/AA and third party AAA games. Every day one game is a nice $10 monthly rental which is great for me as I stopped collecting games two generations ago.

Don't know. Maybe that MS spent $76b on a business that would make them alot of money.

Do you yourself understand what sustainable means? You claim that is a weasel word.

Dude you started by saying the gaming division hasn’t made a profit in a long time.

You were then proven wrong with the court numbers.

You’re mixing everything, Gamepass profit, hardware profit, gaming division profit.

Let me rephrase for you:

- Does MS make a profit on the hardware sales? No
- Does MS make a profit on its gaming division as a whole? Yes
- Does MS earn enough money on Gamepass to bankroll the entire gaming division? No

By the way, mechanically through acquisition of Activision MS is going to increase its profit. Gonna be a while (if ever) before they make a loss again with how much of a cash cow AB is.

91.7% of games on PSNow are from 2017 or older.

How much do you expect this to change in June with this launch?

I don't know why you would be arguing about age of the games as a bad thing, when only the highest paid tier of the PS+ service gives you access to the oldest games on your service. (Even older than the ones they currently offer)

Seems counterintuitive to me.

Exactly. Gamepass is just worth it for the best indie titles alone. I've played some seriously great games that i wouldn't get exposed to (or might not exist) otherwise

Xbox uses gamepass as a payment vehicle for smaller developers (multiple payment methods) and a way from publishers to promote games to more customers via day 1 release deals. I think sony might intend to do the same but wont be treating small developers the same way.

You, know they have to follow certain scripts right?

This was their complains last year.

1. Gamepass has old games. (They scream how owning games is great)

2. Gamepass doesn't have quality games. (Only certain company makes quality games)

3. Metacritic is the defining quality for games these days. (Anything below 85 is bad)

4. Subscription service has no values at all. (You need to own games)

5. Spend alot of money, to own games. Subscription service won't give anything. (Because you lose everything. Also let's no talk about how those Subscription let's you play those games. Only way to enjoy them, is if you own them)

6. Gamepass isn't a profitable. (Despite psnow having more games than gamepass, yet stuck on 3m who are paying 60 yearly)

Its not like 3rd party games exist at all. They have to be perfect, like what Sony does.
Yet, Sony can't even make a proper exploration game like skyrim, match the witcher 3 quality, or get close to Arkham games, or even build a complex world like Rockstar.
Let's also forget about shooter games. Those don't exist for quality games. Or games like sea of theives, which let's you co-operate with other players. And for some reason, God forbid you, if you don't like graphic games.

At this point, these people are insufferable.

I couldn't imagine complaining about old games

Plenty of old games are fantastic

Not like anyone is forcing people to subscribe to this service
There tons of old games, that I would like to play.
If any service let's me play it, I would subscribe to that service.

This!....I said in the other thread (that I don't know why it was closed ... but anyway) The quality difference and the budget of those games they talk about is just imaginary and not reflect the reality

also looking at that top 5....and knowing that already 2 of that pub and soon 3 of them are basically the Microsoft portfolio....it should show how ridiculous , out of reality and biased those ideas are

Yeah that's fair, I mean I think any of these subscriptions or services like the PS Collection add great short term value for people just getting a console or jumping into the ecosystem for the first time.

I guess I'm thinking about the long term value, which is a valid concern when we're talking about a subscription service. Say you get your PS5 later this year. Like most players, you'll probably buy God of War Ragnarok when it releases. And future first party games too. So when these games that you already own come to the subscription service a year or so later, what is the value of that service in terms of first party games?

Uh what? I'm talking specifically about the value of adding first party games day one. Obviously there's added value elsewhere.
I got a PS4 day 1, by the time 2016 rolled around I could no longer keep up with all the games I wanted day 1. I will get use out of the Extra tier all gen.
