Hold it right there fanboy

If one console is available to buy and the other isnt, it's just common sense one is going to outsell the other

And nobody is buying switches any more, the consoles basically dead at this point, it's had like 2 noteworthy games released for it in the past 12 months
my gosh that mirror climbing

Plus the UK sales for Xbox Series S|X are lower than last year.
It is down in number of units.
MS shipped less units this year to UK than last year.

And people come with the ideia the production increased? That doesn't make sense.
Using UK numbers without context them MS decreased the production but there is the whole world outside... probably MS shipped in 2022 more to others places and less to UK.
Yeah, there is something that we are missing, maybe allocation to different regions, console splits changing.

We know that Sony estimated 2m which is 40% YOY drop (previous fy q4 was 3.3m). Might as well wait to see if we get more data in a month's time via the financial earnings.

Don't know if the above article is accurate personally. PS5/XSX = 0.8555, PS5/XSS = 1.563 in terms of die sizes.

If it is guess it is a good guess.
Because AMD was supplying 80k for PS5 and 40k for Xbox... 120k total.
But we know Sony didn't reach that so the production decreased... that means that a drop to 90k on AMD side affect PS5 and Xbox from their 120k... now how much these 30k less wafers for consoles affected MS I don't know because they don't share that data but Sony data confirms the decrease in production wafers.

A ramp up in production or MS allocating more wafer is really out of question when AMD and Sony decreased their numbers.

The split probably changed somehow in middle 2021 I believe.
That is true and you could see the number of Series S started to be way more than Series X in most data.

And the console down from what I understand if for March too.
Switch, PS5 and Xbox sold less in March 2022 than March 2021.

He said "March looks like it's been another tough month for console stock in the UK."

"From what you understand" what does that mean? Evidence?

If MS had the same number of wafers and the Series X output increased which is what he suggests then that would explain the drop in overall sales in units as you get less consoles per wafer. Like I said earlier, in value they may have turned over more as there is a £200 difference in price per console sold.

As for all you guys guessing on production counts, nobody knows.

As for customers butting in, it can happen. All you got to do is pay up and you can get to the head of the line. It happens in business.

Apple paid transport ships higher fees to get priority shipping service during covid. Our company doesn't have that kind of money to spend and our products arent worth $1000 each to make it worth paying. So many of our scheduled shipments were cancelled for later delivery.

What weird math.

PS5 disc is sold at profit since June 2021.
PS4 DE is sold at loss.

So the actual cost of these consoles if you discount the disc is below $480.
Let's say Sony has $10 profit in disc version... so $470 cost.
That means Sony loss $70 per console DE sold.

Do you really believes Series S can be sold at $199 with a loss smaller than $70?
The only issue with this is, that was true like q1 to q2 last year but by Xmas the cost of materials, components and even more shipping from the far East increased significantly. To put it in perspective the cost to ship a 40 foot container on sea pretty much doubled by the end of 2021 and increased even more into 2022. Its the main reason that PC cases saw large price increases and new chassis launched at crazier prices thanks to material and shipping costs.

To fly in or even just sea ship these consoles will be costing everyone significantly more than when that statement was made in early 2021. Everyone's in the same boat though but Sony boxes are the largest and won't fit as many as Microsoft or Nintendo into a container.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Can we not just celebrate one month of high console availability for one of the two premium machines instead of trying to detective work out of our asses to justify stocks for a change.

I'm curious if Sony's answer to this will be the plant they are building with TSMC, then. That way they keep a good enough number of orders with the usual plants but can cover the rest of orders with the plant they are co-building with TSMC that, I assume, will mainly be used for manufacturing PlayStation APUs and work in tandem with their other production factory facilities.

Because for a company of Sony's size to keep long-term costs down it's better to try keeping chip manufacturing in-house, in fact that's what they did back in the PS1 days (tho that was also them designing the architecture on their own, not with another company). Would also explain the loan they took out with the Japanese government in that regard.

Meanwhile, a company of Microsoft's size won't have any particular long-term issue with paying higher for priority at the current plants as they are, since that still amounts to only a small financial impact plus their business strategy is diversifying around hardware agnosticism (though, since they ARE paying priority for more Series consoles to be produced, would show the majority of GamePass growth is coming from console sales after all, like I thought even way back when they tried saying 'console sales don't matter'.)

I mean, it's hard not to talk about stock availability when even a couple supposed insiders are claiming its down to MS paying for chip priority, which would affect the stocks. Nothing wrong with that: it's business. But it's also going to inevitably bring up the stock discussion, too.

It's good news for people who wanted a Series X in particular; I'd say the surge is because they're making the more desired of the two Series consoles more readily available as the S has been readily available for a very long time now. That combined with reduced PS5 production (possibly due to not paying for chip priority, because they are finishing construction of their own fab plant with TSMC instead) has been enough to get Xbox numbers ahead of PS5 for the past 2-3 months in North America and parts of Europe.

Look, Series is selling like 60% of what PS5 is, and that's a pretty solid improvement when you consider last gen they sold 45% of what Sony did. I don't think, realistically, we're gonna see MS pull out in front any time soon, but they're catching up, and they have more of a long term vision than they have in the past.

Seems like Nintendo has another hit.

GTA Trilogy was trash that nobody bought and Forza Horizon 5 is on gamepass, meaning most people didnt buy a physical copy

I'd hardly be screaming from the rafters about it beating those two games in sales

When will this new construction be finished?

They are big game names. That's probably the reason to name them. But you're right. One game is shit and the other sold digitally on Steam and had Game Pass.
