base on Digital foundry early ascess video . Going to be fun when the video released
This remaster is sure a shameless technical mess all around unworthy of the original but it runs as bad on XSX and DF completely omits this fact from the video, the article and their 'sensational' tweet.

Nah. Sakaguchi's hubris with the Final Fantasy Spirits Within movie ruined Squaresoft. Or at least enough so that Enix bought them.
Yes, my soul died a little when I saw this movie.

And it was never clearer to me when the breaking point was as when you stated it... This is when they broke.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Calm down warrior, lol.

The DF video was very explicitly covering only the PS4 and Switch versions. They didn't even look at the Xbox version so why would they go out of their way to mention it ?

So pretty much I should just play the PSX version on an emulator instead of this version? I hate to admit it's in my backlog, I bought the game when it originally came out on the Playstation and never got around to playing it.

Does this game have the worst RPG character growth system ever? Each time you gain a star level, any character who hasn’t got their stat gains from the previous level is now locked out of them permanently AFAIK.

“Hey guys you don’t have to grind!!” = “better make sure you rotate your characters in and use them a few times so they get their mysterious, poorly explained random stat gains otherwise they permanently lose out after the next boss fight”.

I fucking hate stuff like this.

I didn't know that, completely insane for a game with 50+ characters and a three person party limit.

I passed on the remaster when I saw DF's analysis showing it has the lowest frame rate of any PS5 game in existence. Sony should have kicked the game off the platform like they did Cyberpunk. I'm hopeful the patch improves everything.

Absolutely false. Spirits Within in no way ruined Square - it didn't recoup its budget because it wasn't supposed to, the technologies developed for the film were always intended to be used in FMVs for future games. Wada used this as a pretext to oust Sakaguchi and Matsuno and proceeded to destroy Final Fantasy and the company as a whole.

I guess that’s how it works? Look at this shit

But yeah AFAIK each time you gain a star level everyone gets stat boosts. Then after using those characters in battles they gain a few additional stats until they are “capped” for that star level. If you don’t claim those additional bonuses and you gain another star level, you missed out permanently.

Guess most people won’t care but stuff like that drives me nuts. Don’t punish players for experimenting and playing how they want to play instead of annoying & counterintuitive micromanagement.
