The House of the Dead: Remake is Coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia - April 28

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Forever Entertainment announced today that The House of the Dead: Remake is heading to PC (Steam & GOG), PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia on April 28 — 21 days after the game was released exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Based on the 1996 arcade on-rails shooter, The House of the Dead: Remake has players assuming the role of AMS agents Thomas Rogan and G as they traverse across a mansion filled with zombies and other infected creatures.

The game was announced back in 2021 during the Nintendo Indie Showcase. It was slated to launch sometime in 2021 but was quietly delayed to 2022, with the publisher announcing in March that it would release on April 7.

Isn't that a song by Phil Collins?

Oh wait....that's Sussudio.

This is my most missed genre, it literally peaked with Saturn and PS1 at home. IMO

PC light guns like the Sinden are cool, but somebody needs to release an official pair that will work with all consoles across the board. The amount of arcade light gun games that could find a market at home is staggering.

Also not releasing on VR is a huge mistake but maybe that will happen eventually... My only issue with VR is that you can't really share the same room with a friend and enjoy the experience. Even though you can probably do it online just fine, it's not the same.

So was Kinect, yet House of the Dead, Time Crisis and Area 51 remakes are nowhere to be seen!

I hope VR bring back co-op light gun games!!!

Oh shit, this looks amazing... The price, though...
$340 for a light gun?

I'll just make do with a controller.

Yeah, I think the problem is that it seems to be a one guy operation, so I imagine the production costs are quite high. It's a real shame that Sega don't license the patent (or invent their own one) because, as many people have already said, lightgun games just aren't nearly as fun without a gun. I'm sure it could be cheaper if mass produced.

I can understand using a mouse to play this but on console it's a nightmare to play this using sticks. I will buy it but save it when there's an affordable light gun to use in Consoles. If there's any

Hit me up when they do a 4K remaster of House of the Dead 2 with the original voice acting intact.

Maybe I'll play this though... I just don't know how it'll work without a lightgun... VR would work pretty well though...

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
It’s imo a pointless release without a lightgun (and cheap inferior Wii & Move style methods to ape one were neat 15 years ago but don't really cut it either and the same goes for potential gyro based controls on all platforms it's on, since they still just move the crosshair rather than an FPS camera or similar). Idk what they were thinking choosing to remake this of all the Sega games they could have potentially asked for. Sure it’s technically a rail shooter like their previous Panzer Dragoon remake, but that was always gamepad based like Starfox or Sin & Punishment, you at least guide a character around like a 3D shoot 'em up and have to dodge fire and obstacles, not just drag the crosshair around compared to actually having to aim and shoot, without crosshair, fast and accurately enough as was the point of the original arcade releases and their home ports that only a poor player 2 would play with a standard gamepad instead of a lightgun. Hopefully it will support mouse controls and crosshair toggles on PC so that it can be played with custom devices like the Sinden Lightgun (of course the leaderboards will be full of people playing it the cheap lame and easy way with the mouse as these things just hijack mouse input rather than be recognized as their own thing). They should have worked with its creator or made their own gun to bundle with the console versions and promise many more lightgun games to justify the accessory cost. VR compatibility would be great too, with a digital recreation of an arcade cabinet and such, of course only on PC (or Quest if it can be ported down to that level) and the coming PSVR2 as the current PSVR has the same problem I mentioned for Wii/Move and doesn't really cut it for lightgun precision emulation).

Stylistically it looks good, not much unlike later HOTD sequels (after 3 at least), but they seem to have removed most dismemberment & holes on enemies (which said sequels also don't have much of given the crowds of enemies etc.) which made the first few games more awesome.

I wonder what it'll take to run this at 4K60 on PC, surely nothing too special.

Is there a recommended spec published somewhere?

Can't get over at how sub-par that new announcer voice saying "DUH House of DUH Dead"

Anyways I hope we get OG music mods for the PC version.

You guys really should invest in a mouse witha a scrolling wheel...

TWO guns with recoil - around 327 USD
One gun with recoil - around 170 USD
Two guns without recoil - 200 dollars
One gun without recoil - 110 dollars (which I believe is more than enough, I have that one and works perfectly)

There is an audience for these games. Its not far from all those rhythm games from today. And VR. The Lightgun seems to have raised over 3 million so there is some demand.

Move is probably the best you can get on PS. Its far from perfect, but a Move with gun shell did sort of replicate the arcade feel. It was obviously inferior to the Guncon 3 though (which was an appaling gun on itself, but its IR tracking beat the Move to hell).

I might get this game for the nostalgia. There was an arcade next to my house when I was a kid that had the machine for the original game, loved to play it back in the day.

PSN trophies looks pretty annoying though, requiring perfect playthroughs and also there are some co-op trophies.
