The latest episode was embarassingly bad. It's like fan faction. They have basically dropped most of the things the season started with and now just throwing things together without thought.

Yeah I was cringing through most of it, but at least Baltar was good and it seems like the RLM theory that Femto Queen is Picard’s mom seems to be less and less likely…

…I’m just really sick of the trope of weird flashbacks quickly jumping between shots to hint at some mysterious reveal to come. It was fun with Event Horizon. Please get it out of Star Trek

I don't know. I'm curious how this all plays out to end with the TNG cast reunion at the end of the season.

As much as I want to see all of them together, after 1.5 seasons I don't think the writers are up to the task. Both seasons started out great, the premise was really good but it feels like they didn't bother to plan out either of the seasons, the story structure is so bad.

Let's hope the charisma of the TNG crew will be enough.

Ep 7 was better but still pretty shaky. Diving into minds to figure what's going on in the head of someone is something that happens on Star Trek but just the way they do it it isn't really. Rios and the doctor was pretty good still though but Raffi/Seven (mostly Raffi) was terrible as always.

I was cringing when I saw it coming, but Rios nailed the Shatner Voyage Home line. And I liked that we found out why Guinan's people hate Q.

I can’t believe they dragged Patrick Stewart back into a Star Trek series to do a season where he’s barely on a starship. I hate myself for watching it and I hate that I will watch season 3. It sucks.

The whole show is run and written by complete morons 😕 it's sad to see how Patrick Stewart does not know he is not playing picard but someone entirely different plus the make star fleet officers look like fucking idiots all the time. Fuck ups and looser.

If theres one good thing to come out of this mess it's that it's finally motivated me to actually watch all of DS9. I stopped watching the series somewhere around mid season 2 when it was first on TV and I heard it got good sometime after that but I was busy in my life by then. I mean I could have done this at any time but 7 seasons was kind of intimidating time sink and I knew I'd have to start from the beginning again. 1 week later I'm only half way through season 3.

It's elder abuse of a man beyond his prime who is pretending to be in charge. Hope and competence have no place in this world. Poor storylines, a constant theme of a dystopian vision of corruption, division, corruption with an unlikeable cast. The show has definitely taken its cues from the current world situation.

Their ongoing confusion over Guinan’s backstory is hilarious.I laughed out loud in the last episode when she explained how her people contain the very spirit of a moment inside a bottle, because they see food and drinks as more than a simple physical thing.

Lol, so they’ve basically ret-conned her entire species as a bartending race. That’s what El Aurians are you see, because she’s the most famous one and she’s a bartender. Cmon now. She happens to be a bartender but the only other notable one of her race we’ve met, Soran, was a scientist who didn’t seem to care much for social matters.

Also: she just happens to have the original, single bottle on hand that was used when her people did the Q agreement thing. Think about this, and “10 Forward ave”, and please laugh.

This show definitely gets worse every episode. It's quite fascinating. It's even worse than Discovery.

Why are Soong and Soji (or whatever they call her now) in this season. Why is Seven in the show at all. Why is Picard nothing like the Picard from the show. Or Guinan and Q. Why is this season another "alternative" edgy universe. Why does it seem like the writers haven't watched old Trek at all.

Jean-Luc Picard was an inspiration for many Star Trek fans, and Patrick Stewart and the writers shit all over his character. Fuck them all.

I remember a time when I thought Voyager was the worst Trek. What a fool I was.

Voyager was only ever the worst Trek by default, because DS9 and previously TNG were so outstanding. On its own terms, Voyager is perfectly enjoyable, undemanding Trek, undeniably with some low points but a significantly greater number of highs (even if, again, fewer than DS9 or TNG).

Yeah, I think it starts getting really good on season 4 when "something" is added to the mix. Season 1 has some good episodes and while I think it is the best first season of any Star Trek series, it's still got growing pains. Season 2 is similar, almost like how it went in TNG; incremental improvements.

Voyager literally recycled TNG vfx shots, scripts, and costumes (Garret Wang had to wear Brent Spiner’s shoes). It was cheap shit and always will be.

As far as I can see it turns around at season 3 when you see Ronald D Moore in the credits. I've just started season 6.

They brought on Moore due to the Klingons and Worf since that was his thing on TNG.

I notice that at season 3 they added a conference room set similar to TNG, that helps storytelling a lot rather than crowding around the centre consol in ops.

Didn't see this posted. This came out yesterday as an homage/parody of Filmation's Star Trek The Animated Series by using The Next Generation.

Honestly one of the best homages to give it the authentic feel of cels and smudges and very subtle camera movement/shaking that came with older cartoons.

This video deserves its own thread.

If a Borg bangs another Borg is it masturbation?

And why don't the Borg increase their numbers by self replication versus assimilation? And why are the Borg always humans? Have they ever shown a klingon borg or even a non humanoid one?

Romulan borgs last season?

And why don't the Borg increase their numbers by self replication versus assimilation?

The Borg don't innovate themselves, they assimilate knowledge from other species and their cultures.

Which is the reason why this second season of Picard is so incredibly stupid, because it does not understand the true nature of the Borg. They are more like ants, they have a queen, worker drones and most importantly no concept of individuality that could introduce social strife. The Borg are a wholly collective species which is what makes them so frighteningly effective in the first place.

They are basically turning the Borg collective into a multicultural galactic support structure that does not integrate individual distinctiveness, but tries to work around it. It's like explaining to an ant queen that her efficient worker drones need twitter and personal pronouns. An ant queen does not "feel" lonely and certainly does not need "love", what would she even do with something like that?

It is painfully obvious that the Borg are used as a vehicle to make a point about current day immigration and multiculturality, with the issue being that the Borg already possess the most effective immigration and integration mechanism. It makes the whole social criticism aspect so contrived and nonsensical because the writers were clearly just looking for a way to make it fit with the Borg.

How can you f*ck up something as straight forward as the Borg? I just don't get it man.

There was a Klingon Borg in First Contact and Romulan Borg in Season One.

Another thing I thought of. Voyager implied that the Borg had been around for 1000s of years. Yet this episode acted like they had not been created yet. WTF.

I haven’t seen the last episode but the borg aren’t near federation space at this time. That was the whole premise of First Contact, use the Enterprise to send out a powerful signal to get the 21st century borg to hightail it to earth before it could resist.

I don't know why that wouldn't preclude them from vat cloning or whatever, though certainly Borg babies (Lower Decks aside) is just a silly visual.

Seems to me the Borg should be an almost mindless collective, not really under any specific direction. I'm not a fan of the Borg Queen idea even if the film was OK. The Borg, to me, should reflect a specific ideal taken to the extreme of forced assimilation with select retention of scientific progress but no cultural or artistic value. But it has no actual sentience questioning the end goal beyond total assimilation.

So the way to combat the Borg, outside of direct conflict, is to contaminate the collective by challenging its IDEAS either through negotiation (low degree of success since the Borg collective has limited means of communication outside itself) or allowing a strong thinker to be assimilated and corrupt it from within. Picard did this a little bit, more retained his own individuality than affecting the whole, IIRC. But fighting the Borg is like dealing with weeds in your garden. You can't tell the weed to stop, all you can do is eradicate it or cultivate it into something more useful.

Anyway, the more they talk about the Borg, the less threatening they become. Even within the old series they were pretty neutered as an awe inspiring threat.
