Aliens from Konami...forgotten about games in MAJOR franchises

Sure the Alien gaming universe has been hit or miss...for every Aliens vs Predator / Alien: Isolation you are gonna have to play a Colonial Marines...but even with Colonial Marines being a dumpster fire...people still remember it!

Yet somehow Aliens from Konami flies 100% under the radar. It's a legit 1990 arcade run and gun game that has some pseudo first person elements to it and basically plays like Contra...except in the Aliens franchise. It's a legit awesome game...and barely anyone seems to know it even exists.

Which got me thinking...what other games from popular/famous gaming franchises basically have just been forgotten about? Because there are def more and its a fun concept....as how does any Aliens game just kind of fade off into total obscurity?

I remember this title and discussing it in some long deleted forum about the canonical status of the alien sub types in this title.

Used to have an Arcade Macine of this in the local Mall before they got rid of their theme park area, can confirm it was awesome.

yeah the game whole cloth just throws types of Aliens at you that make no sense...like the sub boss who is probably just a ball sack with legs

It was good for an arcade game, played it a hell of a lot back in the day but it was never really 'Aliens' to me, like has been said it had some weird mashups that were just odd..

There was a couple of 'Aliens' games I did love at the time though back then, this being one of them.

I think this may be the only dedicated PCB I bought when I got my first super gun in the early 2000s and again when I got my first candy cab. I even have the NECA action figure for it in a curio between my cabinets.

Loved, loved, loved this game! It's a crime against gaming ALIENS hasn't had a proper home console port.

Yep, it's typically Japanese in its eccentric abuse of artistic license. There are some really weird xeno hybrids in there. I love it though.

This one is so good, and much better than its UK counterpart imo. You can tell the people making it loved the movie.

Ghostbusters from Data East is another offender where they just threw in stuff that had zero to do with the movies

Utterly loved it, and it still holds a special place. I found the UK one not bad but nowhere near as good and the one time I found Newt I ended up shooting her by accident in it, I was gutted!

But aye, you could tell a lot of love went into the US version. As soon as I played the initial start to the game of guiding the dropship in I was hooked.

Speaking of Atari Lynx and deep cuts, the most obscure "lost game" in a series I can think of is so unknown I can't even find footage of it on YouTube.

The legend goes that Handmade Software had a very ambitious plan for BattleZone 2000, but Atari rejected it and wanted something much closer to the original with a few enhancements. HMS made the game Atari requested, but they also made the original (completely different and way bigger) game and hid it on the cart with a code. It's one of the rare cases where the hidden game is actually bigger, deeper, and takes up more ROM space than the "main" game.

ALIENS is an awesome movie...and Konami got the license to that movie and created a legit awesome 2D beat em up / arcade run and gun style 2D action game for arcades...and never ported it home! Which is par for the course with Konami and MOST of their arcade games...it's a real retro gaming black hole!

On this episode we are looking at Aliens from Konami! Everyone remembers Alien vs Predator from Capcom on the CPS but do you know Konami made an Aliens game that's also a run and gun / beat em up hybrid and it's also legit? Because they did...and it is! It's your classic retro gaming arcade run and gun game with awesome graphics and soundtrack for it's time. Konami proves that it's not just Capcom that can make an awesome Aliens game! Who knew licensed video games could be good!

THIS IS THE FULL GAME

Beautiful

I think this one, Capcom's Alien vs Predator is a masterpiece. There are many great Alien, Predator and Alien Vs Predator games made while ago that deserve to be brought back in a compilation.

Disney owns both the Alien and Predator IPs, let's hope they realize it some day and bring back all of them in a complete compilation with the best version of them. When I was a kid I also played these games:

I could continue with many dozen ones

Never really played this in the arcades. Am playing it at home now, tho, with my Legends Gamer Pro. For $100, it’s a decent piece of kit.
