Sony has reportedly blocked PlayStation Plus and PS Now subscription stacking (Update: stacking will resume when service launches, codes still valid)

That I don't know honestly. I just know they literally said 2 days ago that this works, and then abruptly blocked people from doing it after they bought some cards, and are not giving them a refund either.

I don't think there's much of a story otherwise. Most people know Sony is in profit mode recently.
That’s why I brought up last month if It’s been that way since the announcement. The point I was making when I brought up last month was they had 3 weeks since the PSNow links started disappearing to redeem cards if they were intending to stack and take advantage. I get it was updated 2 days ago but I’m assuming it appeared when they announced the conversion.

Yea, you are going to have to explain it to Jimbo and they top guys at Sony that the should be aiming at losing money.

It's pretty simple what they are doing, they just want people to pay the full price of their service, what is the harm? I don't get it. That is what I would do if I were them.

I think long-term, they need the at least 20 million PS Premium subs to make this service great. It's easier to do that if you allow some stacking now and give people a taste of what the new service is. Anybody that's been a drug dealer or know about the drug game (either legal or illegal) understands this.

You need to get the dope fiend to take at least one hit of the pipe. After that, sit back and watch the money flow in.

The whole thing is confusing honestly. It sounds like they blocked PSNow purchases first, since those I think convert to the high tier in the new service.

Then 2 days ago said you can convert over your longest running sub.

Then blocked people from adding any PS+ when it's all for sale without really explaining what is happening.

🤷‍♂️ it's a mess. I don't really have anything else to add.

From what I’ve seen the last couple of weeks, people were going to GameStop and they were able to add PSNow in store but the transaction couldn’t complete. None of this matters if you don’t have or can’t add PSNow. A regular psplus sub is going to be a lowest tier and not include anything additional. These codes have been gone since late March/early April

Yeah totally. But 2 days ago is when it was added or removed? That’s what I’m not understanding. It says it was updated. Was it updated to INCLUDE that information or was that information already there and it was just updated in general?

Paid online already give them an enormous baseline, after that it's just a matter of convincing people to pay the extra $8 each month for the added benefits of the premium service.

If you own a PS5 and aren't going to subscribe to the premium service you are probably going to be buying games so they'll take that trade any day.

Sony just needs to pretend they are trying to compete with their subscription service, there is very little incentive for them to really put an effort behind it. Paid online + trials + catalog of old games + some random day 1 indies + some big third party AAA flops is all they are going to need.

They'll have an incentive to be more aggressive once PS5s are not selling out and when the competition starts to have more success due to their service when both consoles become wildly available.

What is happening now it pretty much the worst case scenario for Sony and they don't seem to be getting desperate. You can tell that by how Sony already made their service more expensive without giving any reason for it, they believe what they've got it enough already and if it isn't they can adjust accordingly when needed.

As far as I know, 2 days ago they put out a FAQ saying you can convert your longest running sub over. Then within the last 2 days have kind of unofficially blocked the ability to redeem PS+ cards without really explaining what is happening.

Blocking subscription stacking would not benefit Sony if someone wants to buy ps plus until 2030 than thank you very much goodbye here’s your receipt.

I know for sure last month they said PSNow would be converted. I’m not sure when they said the longest of the 2 would be when BOTH are active on one account. That was why I brought up the PSNow being delisted and straight blocked on PlayStation website And everyone was scrambling to add PSNow here:

I'm googling: https://www.google.com/search?q=pla...4j0i22i30l3.5329j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Only reference I've found: https://www.mygiftcardsupply.com/playstation-now-cards/

...and it is out of stock.

I also checked Amazon, Game Stop, and Best Buy. Nothing.
Here, first links I get from Google

Those are not retail. They are gray markets like CD Keys and G2A.

I looking for the year deals. I just bought another ps plus deal by mistake. From g2a

Also that's eu. My ps plus is american

Not surprised they did this. Sony are more interested in the extra revenue than quickly racking up subscribers. Are they even offering free trials?

At this point it might be worth the risk. Having an existing PSNow code before the migration stands a better chance of being converted later. Even if you can’t stack now. As long as you’re able to add it at some point it’s worth the risk they’ll convert you if they have to honor the longer of the 2 post they made. And if not at least the PSNow will definitely be converted if your psplus expires in that timeframe. But yeah I don’t know if those are existing keys or need to be generated when sold. There’s a chance the sale doesn’t even go through when you check out.

Has you or anyone actually completed the transaction though? There’s a chance it won’t go through if the key needs to be generated at the point of sale.

Keys from gray markets are typically not generated. They are keys that have been bought, but not redeemed. So the person selling it just enters the key into a form on the site and there is no validation that it is actually a good key. That's why these sites are risky.

I was ignoring lmfao. Now everyone is thirsty for it. I should have got it a least a year before

I’m this case it would be the best bet though. Going by the GameStop attempts there’s probably slim to no chance of a new key generating at this point

Do you if I can still redeem one card. I never had psnow before
I’m not sure. But even if they’re blocking redemption on PSNow as well, you would still have a pre existing code. At some point you should be able to redeem and convert. It would be worth the risk imo

seems likely a temporary thing until the new service launches? Microsoft has never let you stack more than 3 years out while PS+ let you stack for an insane amount of time (my sub is good until December 2031 thanks to a bunch of $20-30 sales when I stocked up)

between that and my one year of PSNow that I grabbed earlier this year, when they do convert over I’ll have the highest tier for a decade, they clearly want to keep people from being able to do that right now in the months leading up to the launch of the new PS+

maybe they’ll follow XBLG/GP and make it so you can only activate a card if you have <3 years left & it won’t put you over that limit

but of course people are freaking out because people freak out over everything these days (including some obvious people acting in bad faith)

it reminds me of just a few weeks ago when PS1 Classics were expiring on PS3/Vita which was obviously a glitch and anyone who used critical thinking could tell it was a mistake that likely would get fixed but you had multiple users posting like Sony was doing it intentionally + all the Youtubers who play that stuff up for clicks

sure enough Sony fixed it & most people have no idea because everyone had moved onto the next thing to rage over, IIRC the thread here even got bumped earlier this week which is when others finally mentioned it had been fixed

edit: to clarify I’m not saying that Sony shouldn’t be asked about these things & pushed to fix them, but it’d be nice if people could be more rational about it all instead of treating everything like an apocalyptic event, heck there’s a post on the first page of this thread lamenting about what happened to Sony & this makes them not want to get a PS5… all because you can’t stack subscription cards right now?

I never even knew it was a glitch, because everyone was making too much noise.

Amazing.

Well, it's really just $5 extra each month, since most people will pay the yearly fee. The one thing you are missing is this......

The new PS+ Premium (and maybe the Plus level) will be where Sony's 1st party GaaS games will live or die. I'm 100% sure of this. Games like TLOU Factions, Deviation Games, Firewalk Studios, Haven's new online game, etc will absolutely need to be on this subscription day one, if Sony "ACTUALLY" cares about them and their own Playstation going forward platform. If they want to compete with Fortnite, Halo Infinate, COD: WarZone, Apex Legends, and Sea of Thieves, etc that is.

I could see most of their GaaS games being F2P it's the best bet for finding success, I guess it will depend on the game.

Sorry but English is not my native language. Does "retailers" not include websites? I thought it was a synonym for "shop" be it either real or virtual

Ah.....I understand. No, not every website store is a retailer. Retailer typically get their products either direct from the product maker or from wholesale. There is a distinction between these online retailer and the gray markets, but I understand now what you were trying to say. All good.

If you have remaining PS Now months and don't have PS+, these remaining months will now be PS+ Premium months. If you have remining both PS Now and PS+ months, the longer one of the two will be your PS+ Premium months. I think it always worked in this way and will continue to be the case.

Months before the PS+ announcement they removed the physical PS Now gift cards from retail. Soon after announcing the new PS+ removed the option to buy digitally 3 or 12 months of PS Now, so you were only allowed to buy a single month. That link of the thread you mentioned was still working until a few day later they killed it. Now they removed the option to buy a month of PS Now, you can't buy PS Now anywhere.

I'd bet they are simply migrating it to the new service.

Yeah. We were trying to figure out when the blog was updated to include specifically the info about plus being converted with a shorter PSNow sub. Was it before Tuesday when they halted the stacking or on Tuesday?

Not sure about the blog, but I'd bet that the sentences of the Q&A listed in the PS+ page mentioning that if you have both remaining PS+ and Now months you'll be migrated to PS+ Premium with the longer amount of months of the two, and that if you only had PS Now your months would be converted to premium were there since they announced the new PS+.

Regarding the reports of not being able to stack, I have no idea when they did start or what are they exactly doing. Maybe they are old PS Now codes that are no longer being sold so this is why aren't accepted.

What I can tell you is that I went Tuesday to the PS Now website and the option to buy a month of PS Now wasn't there anymore.

Stock is heavily down because they're now losing users.
Growth phase is over for them and now they have to find ways to reverse the situation otherwise it's going to impact profitabitlity.
But it's going to be hard to attract more users without funding more high quality productions spending more.
Or they could focus on profitability by increasing prices but that could lead to further user losses.

So it's not that investors are crazy or there is no correlation to how the business is performing, there are clear concerns around the business model right now from investors.
As long as the arpu covers the losses then the profits doesn't change. They then need to find a way to increase the user base and they look like they will do that with an avod model in emerging markets.

I am not saying that all investors are crazy but when a user drop whilst you post your second highest operating income causes your stockprice to drop 50% then there is some question markets about the wisdom of investors.

Very similarly Meta had a reasonable growth in MAU/DAU and a massive drop in OI (due to them spending an additional 2.5bn in R&D) but they saw a 18% rise in stock price which was a minor correction from the previous quarters resuly.

This is acceptable just like money gated demos and paid 4k60 patches...keep the gravy train rolling. But yea, this is bad. Outside of games Sony continues to implement these terrible policies. But I would too if I were them because the only thing that seems to affect them is supply constraint.

What happened to early ps4 Sony? They switched it up real quick the last couple years. I’m in no rush for a PS5 anymore. Every decision they make lately seems to be against my interests. Fuck em
Market leadership...idk if a single market leader has not ever tried to push the boundaries of what is okay.

I know for sure the now was mentioned from the beginning. Supposedly the stacking stopped Tuesday but not being able to add ps now on the site or through retailers has been going on for weeks and as FR back as last month.
