Activision Blizzard Stockholders Approve Proposed Microsoft Transaction

Absolutely stupid comment even from you

It's not a "can they" it's a "will they"

Factually untrue. More than likely this deal will be completed but to say nothing can stop it is absurd.
to stop it they must prove that in some way this acquisition is dangerous for the economy, for it damages or endangers the direct interests of the state or that it creates a monopoly. I would like to understand about what basis the commission could block this acquisition. With 98% of stockholders in favor of the takeover ...You know the pool of lawyers that Microsoft will bring? Seeing the takeover approved will be for them easier than stealing candy from a child

I’m not convinced the FTC would sue to try and block this just due to the sheer scope litigation would take as well as the potentially diminishing focus this is going to get with everything else happening. Could be wrong, but I’ll wager this gets approved with conditions which Microsoft will be more than willing to meet.

I think this is going to be much ado about nothing in the long term.

edit silly question

It wasn't dude. I'll explain anyway since I annotated the chart:

chrome-PO7-RXWk-VXf.png

The pink ellipse is where the stock was trading after the news about their negative culture came to a head. The purple rectangle is where it's traded since the news of the acquisition. People will have sold since it's been in the purple square for the following reasons:
  • You bought in the pink ellipse (this is the obvious one).
  • You bought prior to the pink ellipse and the drop spooked you - you're happy to get out at break-even or at a smaller loss than it would have been if not for the news of the acquisition.
  • And/or you think there's a risk the deal wont go through so now is a good time to get out.
  • You're a market maker who sells options on ATVI - you need to buy and sell shares of the stock to hedge accordingly.
  • You're a hedge fund with a target rate of return for your clients. As you can see, since the news broke the stock has predominantly traded sideways (and will continue to do so for a few more months) - they will have identified places where that money could be better deployed elsewhere in the meantime so will sell a portion (if not all) of their holdings in the stock
Those are the main reasons. The volume indicates that most of the people who intended to get out did so on the day the acquisition was announced (between the prices of 86.90 and 81.5). Nothing will really happen with this stock until the deal is announced on way or another. Any trading that's happening now is people positioning themselves for the next major move, or options market makers hedging.

It's also worth noting that the reason the Bloomberg article came out today is because yesterday the stock fell below the channel it's been trading in since news of the acquisition. That usually (but not always) indicates a move to the downside is coming. 77.70 was the line in the sand, now people are asking why that's happening.

FTC can sue to prevent this acquisition if they feel it is harmful to competition in the industry. Perhaps you should read President Biden's executive order from last year.

Read that and then tell everyone how "nothing" can prevent this acquisition. Again, I don't think the FTC will challenge it, but there is no need for such absurd absolute statements.

It was a silly question, and I thought that I had deleted it before you saw it!! lol

But this is a good post and understand a couple more things clearer now

and this is exactly what I said....with Sony tencent and Nintendo being on top of Ms in the gaming market i would understand what the FTC could say about it. If Ms was the top dog here.....probably FTC would challenge and try to stop the acquisition. But this is not the case

No, it isn't what you said. You said "nothing" can stop this acquisition. That is simply not true for any acquisition of this size in the current climate.

No, you're still not getting it. Anti-trust doesn't just look at existing monopolies or market dominance. I've told you this before

Well no shit.
Shareholders are only going to make money out of this and since it's unlikely they can find an other buyer willing to pay more than MS or that they can improve the value of the company by betting on the same franchises past their peak like COD, it makes no sense for shareholders to not approve this.

The issue has always been the FTC and regulators, here it is more complicated because politics are involved and it's a matter of shaping the future allowing huge tech companies to possibly consolidate the industry in their hands in the future years or not.
But given that Microsoft has committed with open letters to a long term multiplatform approach and fair competition even post acquisition I think there's not significant ground to reject this unless it becomes a political problem.

This reasoning never made sense to me tho. What evidence could they ever provide to prove Google, Amazon, Apple etc. would lock these games away? If anything, I think at least one of them would keep them multiplat and also bring them to their own ecosystems (Apple App Store, for example).

Let's just call a spade a spade: they bought ABK to bolster their bottom line in revenue and profit. That's the main reason, nothing too much more complicated than that tbh.
Phil said Google and Amazon were the biggest competitors for Xbox. A lot of these moves have been to prevent them from gaining an easy foothold in gaming, they aren't going to allow anyone to buy in like they have. I agree it's not just about that, there is profit to be made and a huge catalog for game pass.

Oh boy, that update. When Activision Blizzard is added to Phil's Infinity Gauntlet, and Game Pass gets Activision Blizzard's back-catalog added in full. It'll take an hour just to scroll through it all. I can't even imagine what PC Game Pass is going to look like - but I hope we get all the classics. Dark Reign 2, anyone?

I wonder if they'd do that all in one go or spread it out to spread the impact over different weeks/months?

No surprise here except for the 2% that for some odd reason voted against the deal. SMH. This acquisition could close before the year ends but im going with Spring 2023. As long as it's done by next Spring so next year's Xbox Showcase can be called the Xbox & Bethesda & Activision & Blizzard Games Showcase 2023!!!

what part of my post you didn't get? i didn't talk just about monopolies..i added threat to the economy to the competition or also threat to the interests of the state...there must be reason ...tangible one to block an acquisition....and they need to prove that those are real and tangible. I don't see any reasons that couldn't be destroyed by just one bad ms lawyer and I don't even talk about the immense pool of lawyers Ms would take in a discussion about acquisition worth 70 b . Scrutinized? yes it sure will be ... Refused? there is no real basis to be able to block it.....
The best they could do is to get Ms to sign an agreement to keep cod (mainline) on the same platform where it was released

Imagine trying to tell a company they weren't allowed to sell even though 98% of the owners agreed to it.

There's no way it doesn't go through now.

Wow, Jason Schreier is an absolute tool bag by the sounds of it for publishing that take.

What is Jasons reasoning for hating on MS and Bethesda etc. I am seeing a lot of tweets etc saying he has always been a Sony fanboy. Is this actually true? I've never really paid him much attention.

How can he get away with making statements like "Wall Street are betting it will fail" when it seems completely made up statement with no actual evidence of that?

He was definitely part of the Hate brigade against XB1, looks like he hadn't changed with his new position.

His bosses might not let get away with as much if Xbox keeps gaining ground though.

Jason and Bloomberg have constantly lied about Sony throwing shit over them with false, unaccurate, exaggerating and putting things out on context pretty likely on purpose because they did it many times and was easily debunkable even without having inside Sony info. Once or twice could be a coincidence but they have a too long record to consider they make it on purpose.

How can he get away with making statements like "Wall Street are betting it will fail" when it seems completely made up statement with no actual evidence of that?
He was wrong. The Activision shareholders already decided and signed months ago to sell to MS and a price was agreeded. This voting was only paperwork that wouldn't going to have any effect on the acquisition, and nobody gives a fuck if stocks go down now, months ago MS already agreeded and publicly mentioned the price they will pay for ABK.

Told ya, how many months until every cod ever launches on game pass? Last cos campaign i bought was black ops 2 so I'm going to have a lot to catch up to
If they have the same marketing deal conditions with Sony that RE Village had, as I remember was 14 or 15 months after game launch depending if Sony wanted to negotiate to include it on their game sub or not. And that would be in the case they don't decide to negotiate it or that they negotiate it (Sony keeps the right for first and last offer) and don't sign it. If Sony signs it for their game sub then during that period that it would be on PS+ wouldn't be able to be in other game sub. Sony also kept as exclusivity in this deal the console bundles, beta/demo potential game bundles with other games of the series, VR versions or spinoffs.

Stealing candy from a child is not advisable.

Microsoft are making a big mistake by purchasing Activision/Blizzard for $70 billion. No way in hell are they worth that much money.
Not this shit again. After all the discussion about why they are worth that much, you come into the thread with a simplistic view and say "bad move, not worth it"?

Bethesda was one of the companies to blacklist him (along with UbiSoft). He holds a grudge.

Microsoft what a bunch of morons 🙄
It's not like they haven't made countless mistakes before, that's a very weak argument. How is Nokia doing?

Anyway, I just hope MS is able to put a stop to all the rapes and bad stuff that was going on inside Activision Blizzard, they have their work cut out for them. Those ain't going to be easy studios to manage.

I guess Microsoft should fire their market analysis experts and hire a bunch of guys from NeoGAF :messenger_smiling:
That goes both way, there are plenty of people like you here pretending that they are above making mistakes.

When you dismiss the opinion of other users here, you are doing the same for your own opinion. You are just some guy from NeoGAF too unless I'm mistaken.

So funny. :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_grinning_sweat::messenger_grinning_squinting::messenger_dizzy:
