After being a console player for last 6 years, buying a gaming PC is probably the best decision i made in gaming

PC is best. I bought a PS5 and my pc was top of the line in like 2015 but is definitely getting edged out now, but I will probably buy a new PC in 2 or 3 years and then it will be me primary platform again.

I was the same with PS4 and GT Sport, was A+/S rank. But then i tried Assetto Corsa/ACC on PC and i was stunned how good it is in terms of physics, tyre phyiscs, handling etc.Now GT Sport/GT7 just feel like too arcadey.
Of course i play with wheel, if you're using controller those games are not worth it then..

GT maybe has bigger playerbase but honestly i think its quality vs quantity. Daily races are great in GT but almost every race has dirty drivers even in A rank.
I'm an "offline" player, PC multiplayer being free there is no way I'm paying for PS+, and yes I use a controller, so I'm pretty much a casual, even though I have gold in almost in everything in GT7.
Yes, AC on PC has way better physics than GT7, even when playing with a controller, but GT7 is just so polished, and I love me some proper simcade physics.

Doesn't make sense to buy a 12900k if you can upgrade that 12600k (or 12400 for that matter) to raptor lake on the same board.
This. I’m personally planning the 12400k for my build since the upgrade path is there. I just want to see if i’ll use it over my consoles.
How do achievements work on PC? I hear Xbox achievements tie into PC gaming somehow?

it generally doesn't make sense to buy anything beyond 8/16 nowadays unless you're heavily multitasking with tons of stuff

even 6/12 is passable. games still refuse to scale over high amounts of cores (8+). 6/12 is in a perfect state rn. a 5600x/12600k should be enough until the end of the generation

playing the long game never worked unless you strike on gold (4790k over 4670k). you can ask that to people who bought 1700x over 1600x, 3700x over 3600, 5800x over 5600x and 10900k over 10600k

12600k/5600x should be plentiful until the end of the generation. games mostly will scale with 6/12 config going forward. they also have ample amounts of cache, clock speed and of course enormously higher IPC than zen 2 which should close the gap with consoles in terms of core counts.

remember how g4560 manages to match or surpass the ps4/xbox one cpu performance despite having only 2 cores and 4 threads. fast 2 cores can and did catch up to slow 6-7 cores ps4 used.

even then, i've yet to see game that perfectly scales for 8/16 over 6/12

so nowadays its a bit wasteful. this is not a choice like you had with 4790k and 4670k either. there, you choose between 8 threads and 4 threads (2 times difference). ofc 4790k aged better (but 4670k can also play games competently). 16 threads vs 12 threads even in a perfect scaling scenario should benefit a %33 perf. increase. considering every 12600k/5600x core is approximately %70-90 faster than a console zen 2 core... do the math

Yep lol. You can always tell who doesnt game on PC, or havent gamed on PC for years, by what they say.:messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

Yah, they are pretty obvious to spot. That or they are very ignorant PC user.

We got people saying controller is better than keyboard, when you can use both on PC. We got people providing opinion from his experience with PC 3 decades ago. We got people posting as if screwing around the option setting is mandatory before starting a game. Hell the post below you is a guy who generalize that all PC players MUST upgrade their PC every few months.

I have no idea why are these people so insecure about people playing on PC that they have to post distorting opinions here

My personal favorite is the one about not wanting to game on a PC game because the person doesn't want to huddle around a monitor. Connect it to a TV then idiot :messenger_tears_of_joy:

What i suspect is the cause of these, neogaf is an abnormally console obssesed forum, as in, i cant name you a comunity more laser focused on exclusively consoles. So you have these people then who only ever gamed and knew consoles reading online that every single possible aspect of a game is better on PC. They dont know PC's, they dont care, but you can understand how it would botter you, seeing people shit constantly on the way you prefer to play games as universally inferior.

So then they latch onto various nonsense that you see randomly online, and they repeat that when the topic comes up, but since they dont actually game on PC, they dont realise how absurd most of those claims are. Like pretending that installing drivers is a constant and time consuming thing. Or that nothing ever works and every game has you going hours on end through russian hacker forums to find out how to edit some ini file just to start the game.

Have you ever tried this? I hear people say this stuff all the time, "just plug it into a TV", but I never come across anyone who actually plays this way.

You don't wanna sit on a couch and use the PC normally (internet and stuff) you only wanna play games, so you have to boot up the games on the computer, and go to the couch and play, and it becomes this back and forth process, especially if you don't have the PC right next to your TV. I have no idea if I did something wrong here, but when I tried it, it was a moronic way to play.

I play on PC, Playstation & Switch.

The PC is great because im getting the highest graphics and generally the best framerate but sometimes games just dont work right on PC and that gets very annoying and i dont have the time to tinker all day to get one game to work. I have a small issue with Wolfenstein 2 (played great after fixed) and massive issues with metro exodus (was unable to play the game). but all in all i still enjoy PC as a option.

I would say i perfer the switch the most but of course some multiplat games are not available or look/run very bad so playing the PC for multiplat games is preferred.

I play with the PC linked to the TV with an xbox one controller.

Yep thats how i'm set up. My PC is permanently connected to my 55inch tv. I play from my couch, and i even control my PC through my XSX controller by using XPadder.
My PC is basically my entertainment hub. All my gaming, movies, tv, and music are consumed from my PC.

XPadder is just one of many programs people use so they can set up controller support in games that dont have controller support (mostly old games now at this point).
So yeah the left stick is set up as the mouse, and controls the mouse pointer. Left and right triggers (and left and right bumpers) are set for the left and right mouse buttons. And i havethe face buttons set up to some random keys like Enter, Delete, Space bar etc.
It works great, and i never need to use my acttual keyboard for anything other than when i need to type something like an e-mail etc.

Sure, some people use apps, and some people use keyboards, but for me, that's like using a dolphin to open a door. It makes gaming on a TV worse than just using a console in the first place. Besides, I don't wanna buy 2 computers, one for normal use and one for TV use.

Well if you're talking about soley from a gaming angle, i'm not sure what your problem is. I mean if standing up, going over to your mouse, double clicking on a game icon, then sitting back down on your couch, if thats too much work for you then sure you're right with what you said lol. Because from a gaming angle, thats the only difference between gaming from a console on a TV, and gaming from a PC on a tv.

You can never have enough RAM
And 8 cores will definitely age much better than 6 this gen. Esp. the king : 5800x3D which I'm dying to receive but Amazon messed up my order and sent me 5700x xD

Hell, there's a reason Intel is adding E cores and that's so those 6/8 big cores on the 12600k+ don't get interrupted when used for games. I think AMD should copy this design eventually, just as Intel should copy amd's 3d cache.

I have a $4,000 gaming PC that I use for animation and 3D work, and even though it will run any current game at its highest settings, I still prefer console games. Just bought a PS5, even. I hate playing games in front of my workstation, as it still feels like I’m in my work environment rather than a recreational environment. I’ve tried using SteamLink and Moonlight so I can play from my PC in my living room (and no, I’m never keeping my PC in my living room) and the latency just kills it. On top of that, couch co-op games are almost non-existent on PC, which sucks when I want to spend some time playing something with my wife.

It's a smart decision to get the 12400 then upgrade to 13th gen 8 core later. Just make sure to get a good enough Mobo, check out hardware unboxed recommended boards for 12900k.

Steam has achievements, don't know about achievements like Xbox but I'm assuming the MS brand games like Forza have them. I turn off achievement notifications on PC and all of my consoles though.

To add to this, wireless mice and keyboards do exist. Many controllers on the market work natively on PC including Xbox controllers. PCs are perfectly capable of being powered on remotely. There is no more need to get up off the couch with a PC than with a console unless you have no idea what you're doing in the first place. Anyone that can't get that figured out should probably just stick to something like this.

90% of my play time is like this. For me it's quite easy since my workstation is on the living room, so all I've needed is an 7'5m hdmi cable.

Then you have things like Steam's Big Picture, which let you turn your pc into a console dashboard. Pretty comfy.

Unless you have your PC right next to your TV, then yes, walking around to switch on the game on is not preferable. When I have to walk around to switch on a game every day, several times a day, then yeah, it's a nonsense way to play, it's so much better to just have a console in that regard.

Even so, sometimes the game doesn't start right, and you have to walk back and check on it, or sometimes a program in the background is causing some issue, whatever, stuff like that becomes a frustration.

As I said, if you tried this, you know it's not a good way to play. You need some sort of keyboard or app or something to control the PC from your couch, which makes the entire thing pointless.

Besides, you need a console and a PC these days to get the full picture, too many exclusive games, so why bother.

Using a keyboard and mouse in the living room to operate your TV proves the point of having a console. That's like using a gamepad on your PC to browse the internet.

Again its not the 90's anymore, i very rarely have a problem running a modern PC game, or even an old one these days.

Actually i'd argue PC is all you need as the vast majority of games release on PC. On PC you geta lot of Indie and AA games that dont even release on console. All Xbox games, and increasing amount of PS games (and will eventually be all imo), all multiplatform games, and you can even run Switch games though emulation and better settings.

I was far more into pc gaming when it was its own unique thing in the 90s and 2000s. When those types of games never went to console or went very rarely. These days, I just plop my ass infront of the couch with friends we shoot the shit and play games locally. I could never do that with a pc. Let's huddle around the monitor! Nah, PC gaming has its place, but I'm out of it for the most part these days as I hate building, dealing with driver issues, FOMO on computer parts, and all that stuff. Age has kind of taken out that adventerous part of me.
I get that, but I will say this, it's definitely much easier these days, at least it has been in the past decade since it's become more popular. Everything from developer to hardware support has made general maintenance and tinkering almost non-existent. You may get a bit of that with some of the older games, but most new releases work about as well as a console game these days. Even overclocking has been dumbed down for the masses: Switch one or two settings on the BIOS and done. It's a far cry from the times of having to spend days adjusting the base lock while balancing the stability of other components in your system.

And well, FOMO is just subjective. I like to upgrade every 4-5 years, personally. By then, there's be some new console refresh anyway.

With a wireless KB&M you don't even have to stand up.

PC will always require a little bit more work around and that alone can kill the enjoyment for some people, I can understand it.
I wish Valve would update BPM, it could be fantastic for couch gaming but they just don't care and we are left with an old and very basic version.

But for me at the end, the freedom and the amazing library available on PC are worth the few inconveniences here and there.

Using a keyboard and mouse in the living room to operate your TV proves the point of having a console.

PC is great - I love my PC - but in terms of cost-effectiveness and user friendlyness it stinks.

Alot of friends would never be willing to put in the effort to use a PC for regular gaming while a console that more or less just works is perfect for them. For us that love to install drivers, build our own PCs, run benchmarks and fiddle with 00's of settings, PC is great. For most people - not so much.

The point with a console is you only need a controller and it's fast and easy. It's perfectly fine if you like some sort of hybrid setup, but don't pretend that using a keyboard and mouse on your TV and booting the game up from the PC is the same as having a console.

Surfing the web is piss easy on a controller, the way i'm set up anyway with XPadder. Is it as fast as using a mouse, no its slower, but its still fast if yuo turn your mouse pointer speed full ,as i have. And like others have said, you could just use a wireless keyboard and mouse if you're against a controller.

First tell me, what's your favorite console?

I play about 70% of my games on my PC, I rather use my extra HDMI for a different monitor than the TV, and using yes, using a keyboard on the TV is not the end of the world, but it's like opening your carport by pressing a 12-digit code, it's not a problem, but is dumb and cumbersome. That's why you get a console.

Don't get me started on Switch emulation, not only do the results vary by a lot based on computer models, but a lot of the settings are terrible, not to mention the priacy. That's the land for bottom-dwellers.

Maybe a few years from now the majority of console exclusives will have moved over to PC, but we are not there yet, a pure PC-only gamer for the last 10 years has missed out on so much it's not even funny.

It's not about it being hard, but the accuracy and speed of a mouse are just too good.

I have three consoles and a PC. I really don't care about launching my PC from the desktop and then moving to the couch, doesn't seem like big deal to me.

And as I said earlier, you could use Big Picture to control Steam with the gamepad.

I don't have a favorite console as I don't need to have only one. Almost all Nintendo consoles are my favorites.

You can use the Display port for monitor and HDMI for TV.

Keyboard (and mouse) on a TV is awesome as I can do everything kb&m can than any controler can't plus much faster to navigate the UI's

For the most part, consoles are better suited for the living room. That's just what they are designed for. Obviously PCs can work there as well. I don't think it is a stretch to say using a keyboard and mouse is more cumbersome on a couch. Now if you do something like Stuart360 Stuart360 and make it so you can control your PC with the controller then you are good. Most living room gamers, however, just want the simpler, low effort gaming system and that's why they go with consoles.

Like what?, PS exclusives, many of which have come and are going to come to PC. Trust me, PC gamers are not sat around twidling their thumbs between game releases with nothing to play like console gamers often are.
Thats like saying Xbox only gamers have missied out of tons of PS games, Nintendo games, PC games, PS only users have missed out on Xbox games, PC games, Nintendo games, etc.
The point still stands that PC has the majority of all games on PC, compared to the individual consoles.

It's not about it being hard, but the accuracy and speed of a mouse are just too good.
1- High lvl nonsense/dirty peasant lvl argument.

2- The thread is not about only having pc and you don't need to have only a pc.

Only if you limit yourself with your pc.

I’m a console and PC guy but I always have been. Pc has its strengths the same as console. Some games MOBAS and some MMOs just don’t feel right on console. Smite on PS5 even being 4k looks and runs worse than it does on my PC. The biggest example of this recently was when my PC took a dive I had to play cyberpunk 2077 and FFXIV on PS5. Night and day experience for both games. There is one thing where console slaps PC though and that’s ease of use. Friend was trying to play Darksidera 3 for about a week the game kept crashing when he launched it even after updating drivers and setting exemptions.I Had to literally change launch parameters then set it to steam just to get it to work for him . He would have never figured that shit out being a console only guy beforehand.
