Star Trek: Picard S2 Premieres March 3, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Pike's show) Premieres May 5th

Ask me about my terrible takes on Star Trek characters
I haven’t seen the last episode but the borg aren’t near federation space at this time. That was the whole premise of First Contact, use the Enterprise to send out a powerful signal to get the 21st century borg to hightail it to earth before it could resist.
In the latest episode, Jurati convinces the Borg Queen to create a collective based on love and cooperation. A willing collective because the Borg Queen is just lonely. They fly off to create a collective before the collective is formed, so that in the future there will be no need to destroy the Borg

How are they able to find an even deeper hole to dig themselves into?

You would think that at that level - Hollywood or whatever - people understood at least basic script writing principles or would be able to write real and authentic dialogue. I don't understand.

That was really, really bad. So bad it made me want to watch Voyager instead.

How? How does it keep getting worse?

I dread every new episode.
The conversation is appalling. It's like it was written by an AI with no understanding of human interaction.

Replacing the writers with an 8 year old would be a vast improvement.

It was just about ok to bare (black magic Guinean BS aside) up until the latest episode. Even the Spiner Stewart interaction was awful.

Every other aspect was already rock bottom. It is getting very painful.

The credits are okay... it's a lot of the expected 'member the TOS theme, 'member space the final frontier'? Annoyed they had Pike go with "where no one" has gone before instead of "no man" because derp derp inclusion. Like bro... the Shat covered it at the end of Star Trek VI.
”Where no one” began with TNG in 87.

Why are you guys still watching this shit? The writing was on the wall in star trek discovery even. They're trying to make star trek for the Twitter crowd. Nothing feels like it's a show adults would watch.
Because RLM said they would review the rest of the season. But they may have forsaken us.

Which means you DON'T have to watch it for yourself... let Mike & Rich make some entertainment out of it while you enjoy life without wasting your time on anything produced by Alex Kurtzmann.

As for them forsaking us, I have a feeling they're going to drop the Plinkett review at the end of the season. Maybe he got tired of making a video every two episodes? Idk. But they're definitely making at least one more video according to their Patreon.

Which is the most actual entertainment you'll get from this show. But at this point things are so bad it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

At this point, folks should be throwing eggs and rotten tomatoes at everyone involved in this show. Ugh, can’t believe how these guys just unrelentingly take steaming dumps on the legacy of Star Trek. Just sheer disrespect.

Seems to me the Borg should be an almost mindless collective, not really under any specific direction. I'm not a fan of the Borg Queen idea even if the film was OK. The Borg, to me, should reflect a specific ideal taken to the extreme of forced assimilation with select retention of scientific progress but no cultural or artistic value. But it has no actual sentience questioning the end goal beyond total assimilation.

Agreed. The introduction of a borg “queen” was the end of the borg as an interesting concept. Their total lack of a center was their distinct and frightening idea, with all parts interchangeable, and the whole mass just expanding more and more as it assimilates planets, without any emotional or traditionally villainous motivations, just cold efficiency and total disregard.

Do we know who's writing Strange New Worlds?

It's all new writers right? They're not using Picard and Discovery writers right? Right?

Right?
It actually wouldn't surprise to see a "for their own protection from online and real harassment, we withhold the names of the people responsible for this genre entertainment" type disclaimer.

The studios would probably love it if writers would go back to being subservient and anonymous low paid cogs in the wheel, doing it willingly is just a bonus.

Of course the writers probably couldn't help but out themselves regardless of any toxic fandom. Is Marc Bernardin still doing Picard? Does he think it is actually turning out well?

Why do people keep bringing up Bernardin as if he was supposed to save, or change the trajectory of the show in any meaningful way? He's just one of 20-something voices in the writer's room.... and Strange New Worlds will be no different in that regard.

Apparently there are actually 17 Exec Producers & Writers listed on IMDB

Once again, these shows are a prime example of "too many cooks":

Having said that, I suppose it's possible that the episodic format of SNW will lend itself to ~17 writers better than Picard and Discovery did. I won't be tuning in to find out.

I stopped listening to Fatman on Batman a while back but Bernardin can throw down some insightful criticism at times. But now that he is in the other side I was curious if he offered an opinion about the show.

For those that care Angry Joe was not a fan of episode 9 of Picard.

I might just try Strange New Worlds. I've been nothing but let down new Trek for years but this one might be great it seems. Here's hoping.

Where “Discovery”spent most of its first season putting on and taking off half a dozen different identities, “Strange New Worlds” is content to fall back on the basics: a likable cast traveling the galaxy, having wacky sci-fi adventures, and generally having a hell of a good time.

This guy hosts Star Trek Picard panels, not to mention that all his review tweets read like studio bots (see his Top Gun tweet for a prime example). Not a reliable source.
Ignoring the Variety review as well. I guess they’re paid off too.

I just love how multiple people are saying its a return to form for Star Trek (not that I believe them). The unspoken part is them all admitting Discovery and Picard are pure shit.

But its the same people who say "oh Picard is my guilt pleasure" and shit like that to sell it to you.

If Kurtzman can prevent himself from taking several steaming shits on it, then maybe it'll be good. But, it's Kurtzman. So, yeah.

The finale is that Captain Braxton appears to fix the mess and this was

a fever dream by Spot who gets taken to the space vet by Lore who is now longer evil

Anyone else not like the Rebecca Romijn casting? I dig the older woman choice but not the "Do whatever you can to my face to make me look 30" choice. She starting to look like...

She wishes she could get her shit 'Odo-smooth'.

The casting is whatever... she didn't particularly bother me on Disco. I never got the feeling she was a particularly good actress or anything... she was famous because she was hot. And now she's old. So why not just get someone younger and hot?

Younger and hot would be fine, but I also wouldn't mind older and more natural looking. I'll take a Jodie F***ing Foster over Romijn, who looks like she belongs to a planet/people that the Enterprise finds struggling with excessive vanity and an obsession with youth.

Edit: Actually, I'd prefer an older actress. I like crews with a wider age range.

Does that guy like anything? I tend to agree with the vast majority of his criticisms but never seem to catch him recommending shows/movies.
I have no idea. I'm not sure I've sat through a whole video of his. More power to him though. We shit on new media all the time and we aren't getting paid for it.

Anyone see the star trek short with her and Spock? It was so bizarre, not sure what they were trying to do with it. The Pike trainee one was decent, though you would have a huge ass complaint were you to do that in real life.
