Found my PS3, this thing worth keeping?

Keep it if you ever want to revisit PS3 games. If it's a BC model, and you get a PS5, those two pieces of hardware can play games from every gen.

If you have low latency internet then cloud gaming will work great for streaming PS games from PS1,2,.and 3. The PS5 has you covered for 4 and 5.

You might wanna plug it in and see how controllers work. Yea they go bad sitting around doing nothing. I had 3 go bad like this.

You shouldn't sell it, it takes minimal space and maybe you would regret it. But I think I'm not the most sane person(I also have 2 vita, one untouched and one on CFW). Just bought my 3rd ps3 (my first fat :3) a few months ago. Now I have my original slim for 12 years, a superslim (disgusting modell but it was around 15 USD) and the fat which is on CFW because why not. I rarely use them, but I'm planning to platinum AC2, uncharted 2, the last of us because I love those games and its a pain that I ony miss a few trophy.

Keep your ps3. There are good games stuck on that system and ps5 cannot play ps3 games natively. And never will apparently.

Keep it. PS5 isn't BC with PS3 games. You might bin it now but regret it later. Just give it some time. See if you have any games you want to play on it, or games you'd like to buy for it.

If after all this you're positive you're never using it, then sell it.

In my country it's not worth anything anymore. People are selling it for 30 EUR. for that price I'd keep it.

Was in the same boat but it's the only way to play The Tomb Raider HD Trilogy (Legend, Anniversary, Underworld). Since these games aren't available on PS4/5 and aren't on PS Now you can't play them on any other Sony console.

Do you have PC? If yes, than there is no need to keep it with RPCS3

Keep it, you have the ultimate PlayStation legacy machine. Plays PS1, most PS2 and your PS3 titles.
There's a reason Sony kept the PS3 store online, it's still a popular console.

if u dont play ps3 games, no point keeping them, maybe they can serves as blueray player?
Yeah, that's pretty much what my wife and I use it for these days, but then, we never upgraded past this system. We also use it to watch movies on Prime. Seems to take a minute or two to get past the digital distortion when starting a movie on Prime, which doesn't happen on my PC, so I don't think it's our Internet.

Honestly, though, if the PS4/5 offer the same utilitarian options, no sure if it's worth hanging on, unless like you say, the newer systems won't play PS3 games. Then, absolutely it's worth hanging on to. Personally, though, I never, EVER get rid of a system. I mean, damn, look at the prices these days for retro system. Fug that!

I dunno, its pretty cool to have. If you happen to have MGS4, Puppeteer and some other stuff that was never ported over. Digital games like house of the dead 4 without having to stream etc. And I guess if you already have them, Outrun 2 SP etc.

I actually bought some PS3 games earlier this year (Afrika, Armored Core 4) and the actual PS3 is the only place I can play them. No idea why would get rid of it.

recently found my ps3 in a box in a closet. I forgot I owned it. got rid of my ps4 a while ago.

this ps3 worth keeping if I plan on picking up a ps5? not sure how backwards compatibility works on the ps5. are there any games I would need an actual ps3 to play?

not sure what to do with this thing
Plays tons of great PS1 and PS2 classics. Also has ICO HD, Ratchet PS2 games in HD and tons of other great games. If you’re a retro fan, definitely keep it.

Also, Metal Gear Solid!

There is no such thing as backward compatible on playstation so yeah it's worth keeping.

Funny enough, I was actually playing my PS3 tonight just to revisit for a little while. Personally, I think it has enough exclusive content on it to keep around, plus it plays PSOne games.

outdated games.
This is such a sad statement, good games live forever.
Saying that games become outdated give the impression that a person might only play modern games just to follow the hype, the trend, but doesn't actually really care about them. Outside of maybe a multiplayer game getting ONLY improvements on sequels (and that's rare, there are often downsides too), I don't really see reasons for a game to become "outdated".

I don't play old games, so I would say give it away or sell it if it's worth anything. There are better things in life than trying to play outdated games.
I do understand, but I actually think older or “outdated” games are some of the best games around and wish some of these newer games were as groundbreaking and imaginative as they were. No DLC, microtransactions crap, complete, day one updates, etc. Sure, they aren’t as pretty or normally even as fluid, but games like Vagrant Story and MGS4 are still some of the best games of all time imho.

I rebought some Sony only games for the PS4. Uncharted Collection and the first Last of Us. The other games were 3rd part and available elsewhere.
The only exception were the Ratchet and Clank games. My PS3 is a Lombax playing machine.

Only ps3 game I realistically see myself playing is street fighter third strike.

Maybe I’ll pick up persona 5
You can play Persona 5 on PS5. I don't think PS3 got the Royal version, which is the one you'd want to play anyway.

Which PS3 model do you have? The original played discs and downloads for PS1, PS2 and PS3. The PS5 currently is only backwards-compatible with PS4.

The new PS+ is adding PS1, PS2 and PSP games, as well as PS3 game streaming, but that's apparently only for the subscription service and isn't a complete list.

I pulled mine out of storage this week to play some games and the hard drive failed. I put a new one in last night and started downloading games again. I forgot how god awful painful the PS3 download process was.

PS3 games can only be played on a PS3 (yes, I know there are PC emulators that work for certain games), PS5 can't run them. So if you ever want to play those games again you need it.

(PS3 streaming is also coming to the most expensive PS+ tier, but yuck, streaming. And who knows which games will be available there.)

Don't most games (pretty much all that make heavy use of the SPUs) run like shit or not at all even on very powerful PCs? That Cell isn't easy to emulate. For games that do work well, sure, they will look and run better on PC, but what percentage of the library is that?

I think that CPU is issue, but not to horrible extend, you can play games better than on PS3, on pretty mindrange rig. Problem is when you want it to play on double the intended framerate, etc.

There are still some interesting PS3 exclusives to play (like 3D dot games heroes). Besides you can play PS1 games on it. All PS1 discs will run and there are still PS1 games available on the store.
