Colin Moriarty: Bloodborne Remaster and Bloodborne 2 in Development for PS5 by Bluepoint

Colin Moriarty… This guy is trying hard to make a name again in the video game scene and he knows that this kind on “news” spread like a fire. I really doubt this is real.
The guy created the #1 PlayStation podcast in the world, think he has the #1 video game-centric Patreon too, he's been on Rogan's Podcast twice. I don't think he has to spread rumors to make a name for himself.

So.... are we just gonna pretend this guy wasn't blacklisted by Sony like three years ago and he hasn't accurately predicted a single game release that wasn't already in development prior to said blacklisting?

Mmmmmmmkaaaaaaay

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Bluepoint specializes in remasters and ports.

Will be interesting how good Bloodborne 2 is with them at the helm.
i think bluepoint can try to remake bloodborne and develop an extra DLC for bloodborne as testing phase.

He confirmed Demons Souls remake, anyway blacklisting from Sony isn’t going to change anything. Do you think “leakers” walk into Sony headquarters and walk out with a list of leaks?

Perhaps read my post again...and think about the rest of what you said. lol.

Colin Moriarty isn't some no-name guy. He has legit sources. Shuhei Yoshida and him have been really close for many years, for example, and has been on his various podcasts many, many times.

Does that mean everything he predicts will happen? Obviously, not. He does predictions that aren't from sources and misses like anyone else. But, he also gets legit leaks from people inside the industry.

The fact you don't even know who he is makes me think it's YOU who sucks.
I said I don't know him that well not that I don't know him at all. I had the displeasure to watch a little bit of Kinda Funny Games in 2016 when Colin was still there and I thought they all sucked.

Yeah but did he really? Here's Colin in September 2019 so basically a year before release wondering what happened to Demon's Souls remake for PS4
Couldn't even guess the right console.

Many others can

That is not something exclusively can only be done by fromsoft

For examples Ni Oh

Yes but those are their own unique souls clones. Bluepoint making Bloodborne 2 means they will have to replicate From Softs Bloodborne 1 style which is a lot harder to nail.

Played a couple of hours of bloodborne last night, first time in at least 6 months and the first time on my 83"oled.

I was feeling eye strain and nauseated from the 29 fps.

I really enjoyed it and its definitely worth any negative feelings from it but damn I pray for a 4k 60fps with hdr version.

A man can dream!

Hope so, they did a great job with the remake and there's no reason why Souls and Bloodborne cant become their own franchises.

He is the only reliable Sony leaker that I know of. He has leaked a few things including Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart a full year plus in advance.

Plenty of franchises do very well, long after the initial developers are gone. Not every studio is 343.

343 has done much more than Blue Point. 343 has an average of 80 on Metacritic on games they actually created from the ground up. I wouldn't be confident in the best studio out there attempting Bloodborne 2 let alone a dev who has only done remakes. It's pretty easy to see why we are skeptical and I don't see how it can be refuted at this time.

Give it to Playground Games imho

Bluepoint should really have made some Demons' Souls DLC to restore that missing world as a test of their skills before being given the Bloodborne 2 gig. I massively doubt they're making BB2, its just crazy to go ahead without Miyazaki.

Depends if From is wanting to do that. It's Sony's IP, so they can either make it with their studios or leave it to die.
As I remember some time ago Miyazaki said he'd like so see Bloodborne 2 even if made by someone else because back then he was too busy with other stuff. He also said to be very impressed by Bluepoint's job with the Demon's Souls remake.

So I'd bet that if Sony approached to make BB2 them but FromSoft was too busy, the option of codevelop it with Bluepoint in the sense that FS would do the high game concept, concept art, high level lore & world building and define a few main new mechanics, while Bluepoint would handle the big volume of the 'dirty work' to implement everything is something highly possible.

I think that even if Bluepoint handles most of the development, Sony still can work with FromSoft to define all the important things in terms of design, art style and character design to make sure it feels like Bloodborne 2.

Japan Studios was involved with Demon's Souls and Bloodborne are now repackaged as....

Team Asobi
With the restructuring Japan Studio changed its management and was split in two:
-All their 1st party internal development teams were merged into one of these teams: Team Asobi.
-Their 2nd party publishing part (who worked with Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, Death Stranding etc) branched off to be the the Asian branch of their global XDEV 2nd party publishing team and no longer report to a local Sony gamedev team, as happened years before with their 2nd party publishing teams at USA and EU.

So they continue doing the same as before but as separate teams. After the restructuring both teams are growing. After restructuring and branching off their XDEV Japanese team published Death Stranding Director's Cut.

Bluepoint should really have made some Demons' Souls DLC to restore that missing world as a test of their skills before being given the Bloodborne 2 gig. I massively doubt they're making BB2, its just crazy to go ahead without Miyazaki.
Who knows, maybe the 'original content' being made at Bluepoint is a Demon's Souls DLC instead of a Bloodborne DLC or sequel.

But all the talent is gone. This is not the Japan Studio that helped make demons souls or bloodborne.

Per wikipedia:

Across late 2020 and early 2021, several notable Japan Studio employees announced that they were departing the company.[4][5][6] According to multiple sources speaking with Video Games Chronicle Sony had not renewed most of the contracts for the studio outside of those on the Team Asobi because the studio was not considered profitable enough to continue with original game development.[7] In a statement, Sony stated that, as of 1 April 2021, Japan Studio would be re-centered around Team Asobi to build on the popularity of Astro's Playroom.[8] Before and shortly after 1 April 2021, several additional Japan Studio staff announced their departure from the studio.[9] Team Asobi was moved into PlayStation Studios in June 2021.[10]

I hope this is a crossover revolution. Give me something insane. You start the game in Demon’s Souls 2 and half-way through it turns into Bloodborne 2. Go crazy, Bluepoint. Fuck expectations.

I don't think Bluepoint can pull it off but I hope to God I am wrong. I'd be super happy with a competent sequel! I hope it has a jump button and a mantle.
Bluepoint is great at remakes, but doing a completely new Souls game from the ground up is not something I see them nailing.

Some of the original games where the Demon's Souls staff from Bluepoint did work before, mostly before joining Bluepoint:

I see this team more than capable of delivering original games, and particularly sequels of top tier AAA games because they also did it in the past before they nailed their updates of GoW series, MGS series, Uncharted series, Gravity Rush, SotC and Demon's Souls.

Ultimately I don't care, let them make a sequel, it certainly will look and run better than anything From will ever make. And I am also not big on souls games in the first place. Elden Ring overhyped to hell and back.

Don't know why for good games?

Don't you think their quite specific history in revisting and upgrading Japanese developed-titles puts them in a very select niche of NA devs?

They are evidently being bought for their expertise as they don't own any IP worth mentioning! So I'd say that their track record is of very great significance as to how they will be utilized under the Sony first-party umbrella.

I don't see all like you mentioned in your cherry picked quote.

BB2 without Miyazaki...

Doubt.
Well they have already failed if we go by some of the opinions in GAF. What's the point in trying?
Maybe remastering some of these great games they may have learnt a thing or two?
Also who's to say Miyazaki can't be involved? They could collaborate with From

Sony fans putting too much confidence in a remake studio to deliver a game comparable to the greatest game of all time. Or are we not expecting Bloodborne 2 to be as or almost as good as Elden Ring? This dev who hasn't proven themselves are supposed to rival what many consider the best game ever on their first go?

Their best chance is to get help from the other dev studios under Sony's wing like Santa Monica if From isn't going to help.

You fellas do realize that Team Asobi has literally nothing to do with ANY of this, right? These guys only make glorified tech demos for in development hardware. I'm 1000% sure they are working on PSVR2 tech demos/ a new Astro game.
Japan Teams main talent is all long gone, and I'm not sure if Toshitake Tsuchikura joined Team Asobi or not, but that's who they would need from Japan Teams refugees.

Bluepoint didn't even program the Demons Souls Remake...which seems to be lost on a lot of people here. They are a port/remaster studio and have yet to prove otherwise. That being said, they were supposedly working on original IP during the Sony acquisition, so unless they negotiated that poorly, I'd assume that's what we'll see next from them.

To be clear, I don't doubt that they'll probably be putting out a Bloodbourne remaster, but to suggest they would be making a sequel without involvement by way of From is misplaced optimism at best.

People from Japan Studios are now apart of Team Asobi.
It shouldn't be that hard but for some it is.

This is what I guessed when Blue Point said they're working on a remake and "original content".
As soon as I realized they didn't say "new IP", I said, they're doing bloodborne 1 and 2.
So this wouldn't surprise me if true.

They said that prior to being acquired though. I mean, it's certainly possible Sony contracted that out to them prior to the acquisition, but that seems unlikely given they only had 70 people in their studio at the time.

You had no point and tried being funny by saying janitors.
You can't be more outa your ass than that.
Because you have repeatedly dodged the question.
So, I'll repeat myself...

Toshitake Tsuchikura was the last lead programmer with Japan Team at the time of it's dissolution. If he didn't join Team Asobi, they literally inherited Zero leads, and therefore can provide fuck all for Bluepoint in programming an actual videogame. That was my point. Pay attention.

I have to agree with all of this. BB haven’t yet proved they can make an original game. They’re total tech masters in their remakes but all the game logic was there before them. The point about DS programming is a good one. The game is basically running in the background with the graphical remaster on top. It’s an amazing graphical and audio tech achievement but to go from this to a sequel to what is the game of the generation to half of GAF seems like a lost battle.

If they do a collaboration with From though… We can rest assured it will be something super special.

Indeed.
This thread is revealing a lot about how little most understand about game development.

And yeah, if they were to collab with From and/or secure actual programmers, I am pretty confident they could make a great game.

All of the Bluepoint devs come from original development. They’ve made original games before.

It’s not like they only know how to do remakes.

For example, the head of Bluepoint worked on Metroid Prime.

And yet they had to outsource actual programming duties for their last effort.
Just because they worked on games that other people were the driving force behind doesn't equate to being able to do anything more than we have seen thus far.
To make a poor analogy, they are a really good cover band, but they've yet to write an original tune.

You have anything stating he didn't come for the merger with Team Asobi?
