Gotham Knights Nightwing and Redhood gameplay demo Revealed

Gameplay looks bad, and the dialogues are hilariously terrible. Why writers nowadays think every superhero character needs to make jokes every two seconds, in both movies and games? This is bad. Also, even ignoring the jokes, they just talk too much. It reminds me of Forspoken.
I don't understand it either. I can't help but recoil a bit. It comes off as desperate to be "cool and witty."

My main disappointment is with the visuals, I think Arkham Knight looked better.

But outside of this... as usual I don't understand people. I thought this looked really great, the comparison with avengers are non sense, but it seems like it will be a forever running thing now, people constantly comparing every super hero games to avengers for some reason. It has an open world, it has stealth, actual missions and level design like the other Arkham games, and it looks like they even removed the levels on the ennemies (unless that's just for the video or an UI option), it just looks like an arkham game, but with the rest of the bat family and with optional coop, and that's really great.

But it seems like people decided to hate on this game since the beginning, just because it's not rocksteady and it's not about Batman, it's a shame that this project isn't allowed to exist for some people apparently, the concept is something I've been wanting since playing all the different heroes dlc episodes in Arkham Knight.
I do like the fact that the enemy levelling seems to have been removed. At least, I think it has? Not sure if they'll squeeze that back in or something, but since that was a concern I had from the reveal, it's nice to see it discarded here. As usual though, I have to wait to see if that's just a bait and switch situation.

My favourite part was where they say Red Hood fires non-lethal rounds and then 20 seconds later is using his piercing shot to shoot through people...... How do you non-lethally piercing shot some people?

Oh so like err... he shoots super heated rounds that err.... burn the wounds closed as they pass through, and he err... targets cancer tumors when he shoots so he's actually saving their life since he's a hero now.

EDIT: wait guys I found the answer.

I mean I'll still play it, but damn....

The movement and combat look so slow and unsatisfying. The action gets interrupted every 2 seconds to do some "cool" cinematic garbage that I'm sure I'm going to be tired of in 5 minutes.

Also, here's leaked footage of Nightwing getting up at night and going from the couch to the fridge for a snack:

It doesn't look bad visually by any means -- it looks good -- but doesn't have that "next-gen exclusive" wow factor at all.

Coming from a big studio, I was expecting more. The character details and motion animation look significantly outdated when compared with a game like Horizon Forbidden West, which is a cross-gen game. I hope they polish it and make significant improvements before launch.

I guess I barely remember the reveal but ooof, what happened where they thought today's video reveal was going to be a big exciting moment? I'm sure the devs are working their asses off but goddamn at least some of them had to see how this was going to get absolutely roasted. Look at the reveal video and breakdown, it's night and day:

It's seems like they repurposed a game to have Gotham characters. Some of the stuff they showed just doesn't seem like things from a Batman world. Soul jumping, super mutants with medieval shield and club. I don't know just seems off.

I mean, they have made him a wizard now, looking at his stupid double jump mechanic that seems pointless next to his normal grappling hook. This game just oozes big-brain design decisions.

Hopefully the devs are not reading this thread, and if they are, hope they have thick skin, because... hot damn the feedback is brutal 😂. But, at the end of the day, the criticism/feedback is deserved.

I’d much rather praise them. It’s the annoying fart inhalers with the “haters” nonsense that get on my nerves. No wonder some of these publishers/devs try the crap they do.

Could be like spiderman where a grapple device was attached to them, so it sticks them to the side of the building and we just didn't see that part. That's the kind of little detail that I expect to be absent from this cookie cutter title though.
Yeah, that was awesome in the Spidey-game. Here, i bet on instant street pizza, too!

Game looks ok, but I don't really like the idea of a nonlethal Red Hood. In the Arkham Knight Red Hood DLC, he just straight up murders people in combat, which felt quite awesome after 3 games of nonlethal takedowns.

This might have been interesting 10 years ago. I can't see one thing they do exceptionally well in any of that. At least fix those animations and frame rates.

edit: the worst part might be the fake out with the mini boss where the player controlled character stops, and slooowly turns around. Yes, you too can role play being surprised the boss isn't dead yet!

[8:44] "Augmented reality vision helps the heroes solve puzzles and investigate mysteries."

Uses augmented reality vision (aka: x-ray vision). Spot a huge "hidden mechanism", that literally points to the location which there's a button to open the path.

AAA games nowadays should really stop trying making "puzzles" if that's what they're gonna bring to the table. This is just waste of time... it's not engaging in any way.

I wonder if they'll do a "we've listened to your feedback" announcement now. No way in hell can you dismiss such consistent negative reactions to this. And the fact that they would even show this says alot about the leadership of this team.

This looks pretty bad, average at best. Graphics wise, they look dated I suppose but that didnt bother me that much. The animation doesnt look good, how some of the moves look are pretty questionable and stiff really. The van chase sequence, it didn't look or feel fast.

One of the problems is how empty Gotham always looks. In Arkham Origins, there was some sort of in-universe/canon explanation for why that was the case. But they can only use that excuse so many times...

Assassin's Creed Unity, despite its issues and reputation, had VERY full streets, full of NPCs, and that was a game released in 2014.
There was a bit that had like...2 pedestrians on the street? And as Red Hood grapples up to a building one yells "OMG ITS RED HOOD HE'S MY FAVE" or something like that. It was awful.

am i misremembering or does this look significantly worse than the reveal? i was planning on getting this but now i may have lost interest completely...

"Gotham Knights is skipping last gen consoles and will only be available on PS5, XSX/S and PC"

Yet it looks like a PS4 game, go figure. Not impressed.
I mean up until the announcement this morning, it was being designed as cross-gen. I'm not surprised that it looks like a PS4 game.

I'm still hopeful for this game, but what I saw tempered my expectations quite a bit. Hopefully they can bump this thing up to 60fps because the 30fps they showed didn't do any favors.

But the vast majority of the YouTube comments are gushing in their praise about this video, so if that’s all the devs read, they’ll assume the feedback is generally good? I doubt devs read forums like this (maybe some do).

I clicked on this video with optimism in my heart for a good DC videogame, I came out with a renewed cynicism. GOD DAMN. Feels/looks like a 60 Metacritic game currently, here's to hoping they can tighten things up.... a lot.

If it looked like a 10th gen game...
If Gotham City were a massive, alive city with revolutionary interactivity...
If the combat styles were diverse and reconfigurable to suit each player's tastes...
...I still don't want to play in the stupid "Batman is Dead" universe that they've been pushing lately.

This just made me wonder what is rocksteady doing? And I don't think suicide squad is going to be that good.

I was actually really looking forward to this. But next gen only + this really underwhelming showing has kinda killed my hype.
Next gen only also means the underwhelming visuals and an empty looking Gotham for a third gen in a row are all the more disappointment

Also am I crazy or did the Batgirl gameplay they showed like a year ago look better? It had some elements I didn't like like damage numbers and levels on enemies, but the animations and gameplay looked nicer.

Arkham Knight, a 7 year old game with a mod, can look much better than this game.

No need for PC version or mods.
Arkham Knight on a vanilla Ps4 looks visually better than Gotham Knights

I hope the devs were not forced to make this because of issues within WB? There were a ton of cancelled projects. Montreal who is the studio behind this had a solo batman game in-mind after Arkham Origins with Court of Owls. Looks like WB wants that co-op MTX money.

Montreal is a very talented studio that kind of gets shit on IMHO. This game does not feel like something they wanted to make and more or less someone else made the bones of this and they had to salvage something from it while Rocksteady changed course from a superman game to Suicide Squad.

This game does not look good.

uses 'M$' - What year is it? Not 2002.
They should have just made a a Batman arkham game that takes place after origins that deals with the court of owls and getting the villains locked up at arkham for the first time
