I actually would like Sony to do more AA and smaller or artsy games.

One things Sony can't do very well is the RPG games. While horizon and God of War have some element RPG, it's not really a true RPG games.
I would definitely like to see them pursue a more rpg game but I doubt they ever will.
Yep, I've got concrete genie. I'll wait for a ps5 to get that sackboy game and I'm not into making my own games. Would have also liked another game like the puppeteer.

They do let their sales do the talking for them?

Less than 2 years and 470 Million pieces of software sold?

Their games chart everytime they have stock?

I think the results show they have the right plan....for them.
That is what I said. Stop talking about subscription service devaluing your games.
If your games sell well, then don't put it on subscription service.

It's like i can see where this is going...basically release games like Life is Strange. In chapters...like we get TV shows on streaming platforms or something. Yeah...no. I'd rather get the full game experience and pay for it full price.

Where's Sackboy? Ratchet? Killzone? Gran Turismo? Dreams? Spider-Man? Concrete Genie? Returnal? That probably wouldn't fit the narrative, right?

Funny thing is that picture was created to mock people that criticize PlayStation games...and it's now being used like a serious thing by that same crowd, lmao.

Let me grab the Nintendo template. I'm sure they also have trees in more than 2 games...or MS.

On the Nvidia leaked list? 🤔 In the PC porting studios? 🤔 Am I going to be eaten alive by nuclear weaponized autism for making this joke? 🤔

Yeah, giving up 10+ million sales for a sub servcie that no1 knows how much profit its making, is retarded.

If it works for your company and your happy thats awesome. You dont need to care about how other people acquire there games lol.

Anyone saying Nintendo and Playstation should stop what they are doing and copy gamepass doesnt make sense because they are making loads of money from sales. And yes selling your game for $60-70 still works.

Playstation and Nintendo are making more money from software 1st party sales then before. Why stop the huge sales for sub service that hasnt proven itself?

B.) No1 knows how much profit the sub services will make. Atm i see so many posts on twitter and other forums about I got my sub service untill 2024 and only paid $5… I dont think Nintendo and Playstation wanna give up sales for that

What does that have to do with the PlayStation template where all the games supposedly look the same?
If they come out on PC they are still the same games...they are still PlayStation games, lmao.

I am with Sony on this issue. The Playstation back catalog is massive and there are plenty of games that can be put on their upcoming GamePass like service.

Eventually the games will transition to the service.

Nothing. You asked where they were at, and I said what I said because console warriors typically want to destroy everybody who mentions PC ports of their precious exclusives?

No lies detected.

The model they are trying to emulate is Netflix. Most shows on Netflix are of low quality , quantity over quality mentality. You just cant have it both was.
This is not true, plenty large budget Netflix productions out and due out. There are lower budget productions on every channels and across every production company in the world.
I think this is pretty obvious to anyone without a bias. Gamepass is just a Microsoft thing, and it's nothing wrong with that.
How is it obvious? I presume you have numbers to back up this "obvious " claim? It's not something that can be proven unless Microsoft came out and said it. This Sony employee has no idea the financial impact GP has and is having on game budgets within Microsoft Studios. Simply put his comment is not worth the time it takes to read it.

This only works if you’re thinking of each release in isolation. It’s about adding numbers to each game’s players surely?

I’m a good example too. I invariably wait until a game drops to $20 before buying it. I’d say I buy two Sony first party games a year on average around this price, so they get $40 maximum from me. I wouldn’t hesitate to subscribe to PS Plus or whatever it’s called for $15 or even $20 per month if they added their games on launch date. So they could get up to an additional $200 per year from me, and I would play all their games most likely.

The gamble is are there more people like me, or more people who would rather spend $70 four or more times per year, as that would be more profitable.

It’s all moot any way, as Sony can’t afford to take that gamble, whereas MS can, which is why it’s playing out that way.

I don't see the problem. If I'm making game-x and I know that I can make more money on it by selling it directly vs. a subscription model, then I will be willing to spend more on making said game.

Moreover, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Microsoft can afford having xbox making no money at all for as long as they want, xbox is only 9% of their revenue. Cash flow at lost still lost. The best you can hope is being on black but investors don't like that because you have to show potential growth. Is like Netflix struggle doesn't teach people anything, even with their budget stuff they are crying because is not enough and how many subscribers they have? also TV shows doesn't take 5 years or more to make.
Also how hbo backtrack with their day and date movies release?
I mean there is like a ton of evidence but let's ignore that
I don't even understand why you are comparing this to videostreaming subscriptions. That's comparing apples to oranges.

Time will tell, but Microsoft chose this strategy because they believe it will generate more money in the end, and based on all their acquisitions and plans they aren't thinking about lowering the quality of their output. They were the highest rated publisher of the year in 2021 for a reason.

Exactly, the Netflix comparison doesn't work at all. Games have several additional income sources, while Netflix doesn't. That's the entire reason why Microsoft started doing Gamepass.

Does Microsoft gives those numbers?
If they were good, would they not sing them from the roof tops??

Makes sense, although I don’t think quality would deteriorate but rather that we’d get fewer big budget games and more filler.

I imagine it’d be like Netflix is today, a fantastic Netflix show/movie launch here and there, while the majority of the Netflix-made content is just horrible filler on a lower budget.

Keyword here is "it," as in Sony.

Microsoft has unlimited money. Sony is a tiny company in comparison. They probably have to see good ROI on each title, and Microsoft needs only climbing Game Pass subscriptions - and time (which Sony doesn't really have).

I don’t know why people have to go loopy about these things; it’s Sony’s business decision, so just deal with it.

Of course they would say that. Just an opportunity for Sony to claim gamepass/xbox is bad. If i want to only play 3rd person adventure games ill get a playstation.
Yep. Not sure about the second part of your statement but the cfo IS trying to push sony's strategy over Microsoft's. We have not seen a deterioration in quality in game pass games. In fact, you could argue that Microsoft is making better games NOW compared to the Xbox one days prior to gp.

What makes a game "Quality" is the real question? Is it this...
MnlyNFW.jpg

Seems the loud majority have decided that 3rd person single player adventure games are the bar for which "quality" is judged. Beyond this one genre of games I don't see where Sony's "quality" is any better than any other developer.
Nah, Sony also made very different games like Dreams, Gran Turismo 7, Death Stranding, Sackboy, Demon's Souls, MLB The Show, Returnal, Ratchet, Detroit Become Human, Bloodborne and many more like VR games as Astro's Rescue Mission or Firewall Zero Hour that got great reviews and sales.

Has ubisoft shown any numbers to indicate that it's service is profitable?
I have no idea about the service, but the whole company is profitable and every year keep increasing their revenue. So at least the service doesn't stops them from being profitable.

Yeah that's why they want to sell
Ubisoft always said they don't want to sell and in fact there are rumors they are partnering with some big guys to keep control of the company and block any possible hostile takeover. They are very successful, so logically -even more in an industry consolidation context- some people got interested on them and when someone makes them an offer they politely hear them, but don't want to sell.

Jim already said they will pivot if it is necessary. They will do exactly what MS is doing within 2-3 years IMO with Day 1 first party and creating an ecosystem where you can play anywhere. The higher PS Plus tiers will not grow to massive numbers if its just old games.

Lmao, it this list bait? No way a "discussion" can get more lame than this, so Sony doesn't make too many FPS is that your complain? They just bought Bungie, so problem solved. As if Spider-Man, God of War, Uncharted, Returnal, Horizon, etc, were all a copy of each other. How stupid do you think we are?

It's not like Sony doesn't make games like Grand Turismo, Dreams, Astro, MLB, Sackboy, etc, that complement those that might fit in this broad concept of "3rd person single player adventure games".

Yea we can't really make a list like that for MS because they don't have high budget games like that, how is that an advantage? If I made a picture like that with State of Decay, Gears, Bleeding Edge, I would probably get banned.
