Forspoken Load Times Are Barely A Second Long On PS5, Has Multiple Graphics Modes

During GDC 2022, Luminous Engine’s technical director gave a demonstration of some of the technologies that they have incorporated into Forspoken.

In the case of the PS5, they have extremely fast load times thanks to the M.2 SSD in the PS5 console. The load times are so fast that they barely last a second. Compared to the PS5, the PC version can have load times as long as 2 to 22 seconds depending on the hardware.

The PC and PS5 versions will also benefit from the AMD FSR 2.0 implementation. There are different modes available in the game including a Quality Mode and a Native 4K mode. These will offer better performance while sacrificing some visual fidelity.

Microsoft has also helped with the development of the PC version with the Direct Storage support. A regular SSD might not compete with the load times of the PS5 version but an M.2 SSD can come quite close to it.

Well, there it is.

That's great, but I need to see a lot more on this game. That gameplay trailer or whatever they put out was probably the most underwhelming gaming bit of news I have seen in many years. Fast load times are great, but if the game sucks who cares?
To add to that - I would be very leery on naming my graphics engine Luminous Engine if I don't have some secret sauce in the lighting department that bests every graphics engine out there.

Yeah, I'll take higher resolution, image quality, and framerates over a split second load times. Weird how that is so high on the ladder all of a sudden this generation?
Play GTA V on PS360, PS4, XBO.....play the updated version on PS5 and Series consoles and maybe it will make sense. Hell, after the latest update to GTA V on PS5 its loading even faster, sometimes it loads at 60%, most times at 80%...

Same for Death Stranding on PS4 and the Director's Cut on PS5.

Weird how some are trying to dismiss it.
After coming from last gen consoles and slow load times, why would it not be high on the ladder?
Or did i miss some obvious fanboy joke?
Exactly.

I'm genuinely curious about Forspoken. From all of the previews, there are some aspects I really like about it, but there are some aspects I'm more apprehensive about.

I think I'll still take a chance on it, even if I end up not enjoying it in the end.

We was specifically talking about the PC platform. That article was silly to mention the PC when they don't care about 10-20 secs of loading time. Nearly every game out loads fast enough with just an HDD. Anyone with a standard SSD doesn't even care about the loading times.

Consoles are a different matter.

Come on VFX you know the Luminous Engine is pretty damn beefy and has never even been tapped into. As far as ease of use, it's a mess but it's a powerful engine nonetheless.

I don't know why any PC gamer would worry about load times in games. It's never been an issue even if it's a few seconds. I'm much more concerned with rendering speed and quality.
Have you played the Forza Horizon titles? All are very slow to get started even with a comparable to Series X SSD.

Reducing loading times is probably the greatest new feature set this new console generation has,

Anyone who ever tried borderlands 3 on a ps4 will know exactly what i am talking about.

This new forspoken game looks pretty dire to me but that loading, Fantastic.

Right? I’d be more concerned with shader stutter which has become more and more common as of late. Shit is excusable.

Cool for the load times I guess, but the performance on that 15 minute gameplay cross section was terrible. Hopefully these different graphical modes address some of that. I'm unlikely to buy this game anyways, since I haven't been impressed with anything other than the particle effects.

It looks like it plays like a considerably worse Infamous game, and the game world we've seen so far looks like a 2010 Korean MMO with HD-ish textures. 1 second load times doesn't fix any of that in my mind.

I highly doubt some actually care for loading times over graphics/performance. Especially in a fraction of a second in loading times, hence MY comment, and the comment I was replying to... I'd take a fraction of a second to have better graphics and performance, and I guarantee over 90% of Gaf will agree, no fanboyism would be needed to paint the obvious picture.
