You didn't know about this? This is the official Xbox Ambassador program -- you can sign up here. For full disclaimer, I do not support initiatives like this.

This program offers "missions" to ambassadors who then get rewarded to complete those "missions" on the internet. Here is an example of what the inside of the program looks like.

They also have special campaigns during "E3 time" (which is pretty much this time of the year). The primary objective is to increase online chatter and engagement (and basically rewarding people for doing that). As you can see below, it specifically rewards people for "taking 5 chats per day".

Here is a public list of some of the rewards that this program offers.

Based on the grapevine I've heard, a large majority of the rewards are now in the shape of Gamepass coupons.

The Tweet you shared above is from an Xbox Ambassador. You can also see other tweets by her (and from other Xbox Ambassadors) that use the same marketing language that Xbox uses to promote their brand. The idea is to use the same messaging and gain mindshare.

Here is an example. See the highlighted phrase.

This is basically advertisement from people who get paid in kind to advertise, but they aren't seen as employees of a company, but rather gamers like we are. Some people call it just a fair marketing tactic; I do not agree with that. I believe it's not ethical to have a system like this one in place.

More fair disclaimer: I do not boycott a company because of this. I still like and purchase and play some of the Xbox games on PC, despite this, but this leaves a bitter taste for me, and I am just more cautious of Xbox's marketing campaigns whenever I see one. I hope no other company is doing this. I like Sony and Nintendo for their games, but if they are also involved in programs like this, I'll have the same stand against them. I believe that fellow gamers are more important than protecting corporates, and programs like these have the potential to affect the gamers community and the mindshare in a sneak, unethical way.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT...........

Please tell me Sony is not doing something similar like this?

Not that I'm aware of.

Nintendo had a 3DS ambassador program, but it was a completely different thing. The only similarity was the name of the program.

"The Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program, is a program that Nintendo launched for the Nintendo 3DS. This program was made by Nintendo in recognition of players who bought the 3DS for $249.99 before the price dropped to $169.99 on August 12, 2011.

In order to become an ambassador, players had to log on to the Nintendo eShop with their 3DS before August 12th and then update the console. The Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program offers ten NES games for early adopters and also offers ten Game Boy Advance games starting December 16, 2011, making twenty games in total.

In addition to the twenty free games, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors may also download a special Ambassador Certificate. The certificate has a notifications feature, which when toggled 'On' allows the player to receive special notifications exclusive to Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors."

And people have been inquiring about the PlayStation ambassador program as recently as last year, but there is nothing like the Xbox Ambassador program or even the Nintendo Ambassador program (and I'm so glad they don't have anything like this).

We have so many of them in this forum. I thought it was clear as day.

Nah he's just an emotional kid.

There are certain individuals who are much more measured in their approach whom are prime candidates for this. They know who they are.

Yes, there are thousands out there shilling for socks and sweepstakes entries.

Booty = Xbox Gaming
Spencer = Ms Gaming

How it matters is in how they are managed and decisions made. The discussion thus far here has been on management & performance of studios. It is quite possible, Booty has no governance over Bathesda studios like he has over 343 for example.
Semantics and you obviously have no point. Microsoft gaming is Xbox.
Is that all you get?

My condolences.
Don't be jealous, I'm sure Sony will give you a raise for all your hard work.

Is that really all you got from that post? Or is that a very feeble attempt to deflect the topic?

Downplaying this, leaving an "empathy" emoji on that post (don't know what that event meant), and now blaming others for receiving compensation from Sony: doing everything to defend a corporation except saying that it's wrong. Why is that?

Or do you think this is perfectly ethical and moral by Microsoft? If you don't think it's moral and ethical, can you at least condemn it publicly?

EDIT: And for your kind information:

P.S. And I think the girl on the right is the same one who tweeted yesterday 🤣 🤣

Yesterday I saw something on social media pertaining to the defence of Phil Spencer and the Starfield and redfall delay that blew my mind.

An "XBOX ambassador" stated that.

And in a strange turn of events it's revealed that this person isn't an actual gamer. She admits to preferring to watch someone else game. But what blew my fucking mind is that from following this thread, it was revealed to me that there is a slew of these types of accounts/people who don't actually game but get paid upto 50K and all of them are seemingly in unison telling, telling us XBOX gamers that we need to wait.

I didn't know this type of shit existed! Non gamers essentially telling actual gamers to "Shut up and wait." And being paid money to do so. That's underhanded right?

It made me sick to my stomach to see the hobby I care about be infiltrated by these types who are paid to push corporate damage control while pretending to be gamers. Kinda makes my skin crawl, kinda.

Ahhhh this is so sad. I hate this fake “geek” “gamer” persona that is so clearly a charade in this instance. Saw one of these tweets saying she basically watches her boyfriend play games on Xbox for hundreds of hours so she knows what she’s talking about 😂

I've been on the gaming internet for a while but I've never encountered something so vile on this side of the net. You mean to tell me that the richest company in the world wont rely on building great games to build momentum. They're now trying to purchase it? Someone tell Phil Spencer that in this industry you can't purchase mindshare. You gotta build mindshare by releasing great games.

Me while reading your post

That entire thing is disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Fake reviews outside of gaming are associated with scam sites. XBOX really treating gaming like that and paying these clowns?

This shit is insane.

This is nothing new and they've been doing this sort of thing for a long time.

In my view if you feel the need to do this as a business then either you lack confidence in your products ability to stand on it's own feet or it's a scam.

I had no idea. It wasn't until I saw it on my timeline and actually read through it that I realised that they openly pay people to damage control and shill. I don't know, I consider that kinda dangerous and sleazy.

Ahhhh this is so sad. I hate this fake “geek” “gamer” persona that is so clearly a charade in this instance. Saw one of these tweets saying she basically watches her boyfriend play games on Xbox for hundreds of hours so she knows what she’s talking about 😂

She said she has a right to talk about it because she likes controllers or something to that effect. I'm honestly stunned.

In my humble opinion, if you actually don't game then your gaming opinions are null and invalid. The fact that XBOX is paying these fake gamers to pretend and defend him is really problematic. I hope bigger site pick up on this crazy shit. I've been gaming since PS2 and I never knew lol

I agree it sleazy and kind of gross. I wouldn't mind this if it were completely voluntary and there was no incentive of rewards, but this is how it is. It's the reason you have so many podcasts and "influencers" for the Xbox brand, despite it having a significantly smaller marketshare compared to other console brands.

There are over 325,000 Xbox Ambassadors out there, "spreading positivity." The girl on the right side looks exactly like that Twitter girl 🤣

zDOWSfl.jpg

And you can also see people defending and downplaying this sleazy tactic in this very thread. I ask them to condemn this practice publicly if they think it's wrong, but as expected, we won't hear a peep. Tells you everything you need to know about them and the current state of gaming.

I've been gaming for 30-odd years now, and the current state of the industry and stuff like this genuinely makes me sad.

Wasn’t there something similar with the YouTube channel Machinima around the Xbox One launch?

I don’t remember the details; could someone enlighten us, please.

Sony doesn't have/need this kind of bullshit marketing.

And if somehow one day Sony try to use this kind of lowtier tactic i hope all Playstation fans will stand up and bash Sony and send them the message that's this a wrong way to do things.

Companies do whatever PR they can, to make you eat their products.

Its why I mostly hate, companies who boost about their products too much.

Phil may have put xbox in good shape. But when he speaks, he speaks like a PR corporate. Same for any ceo.

It sends shiver to my body, when they try to act like us, and pretend they care about us.

The Ambassador thing is fine as long as they put #ad at the end. If you are getting something in return, no matter the amount, be upfront about it.
I want to be ambassador for arsenal. But all they give me, is depression and anxiety when they play.

These last 2 matches might give me a heart attack.

We should have a captcha system built in so that you have to show your feet before you're allowed to say something positive about Xbox on here. Never know what kind of socks you might be wearing. You could be subjected to unnecessary positivity if you're not careful. Remain vigilant everyone.
