Gears of War could be getting the ‘Master Chief Collection treatment’, it’s claimed (VGC)

Cheers to Microsoft for its stance on backwards compatibility, but also on preserving games. I would buy and think it's great if they did take the time to give these games proper HD upgrades.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition is the remastered version of the original. You want to be playing that one to start with, it is the exact same source code / gameplay. Obviously 2 and 3 are old original versions so they won't look as nice after Ultimate.
Thanks man, I'll do that way 👍

Actually it's not..it's highly modified

They took away some of the key features while breaking some of the most important ones

Free aim and blind fire now comes at the cost of a sponge more so then ever, you now literally have to pop-shot players

No more lobby browser to search for games, meaning people are forced to only play team deathmatch

Waste of time and resources if true.

As its been said, its not. The trilogy is not on Steam and Gears 2 and 3 are not on PC at all. Why be happy with a limited 4k/60 and controllers when you could play at 8K, with mouse and keyboard and 165/240/360 hz ? I really wish people would stop acting as if 60 frames means job done forever. Thats a piece of shit framerate that everyone who samples high refresh rate will conclude. If a game is 4k/60 that means its wide open to be vastly improved across the board.

Just look at God of War. At some point in the future, sooner or later, you will be able to play that game at 16K and 360 hz. It will take some years, but it being on PC allows something like that to be possible. Same thing with every other game.

Would love to play all of them again, specially the first three since they were ages ago! Gears 4 and 5 still are beauty on my PC!

I don't typically repurchase games, regardless what perks come with the remake or reboot. But I'd buy this bitch in a hot second if it's FR.

AAA games take 4+ years to make these days and 4 years ago all they had was a studio for forza, gears, Halo, and minecraft, plus rare. what would you expect? thankful they’ve bought another couple dozen studios and we’ll see those games soon. we already have seen a lot of them they’ve just been under old contacts
I know - you just think things would have moved on. Feels a bit like a time loop.

I wonder why Microsoft don't at least for one, tried to launch a new IP with those studios. I totally understand Forza, but Gears and Halo, I mean, Coalition and 343 should have a chance to get a new IP a shoot. Maybe we can get something exiting.

I hope there will be an MCC-style graphics toggle that lets you see the old visuals compared to the new. I massively preferred the original look of the first Gears of War to its Ultimate Edition. They replaced the oppressive atmosphere with a green puke filter.

The rain level effects were also particularly butchered:

See that spooky mystery of not being able to see too far ahead? Yeah let's just remove that.

If I was a totally new gamer to Gears, it might be worth playing assuming youre a gamer who likes to start from the beginning and not jump to the latest games first.

But if you've already played them on 360, the Xbox One/X systems pretty sure boost the game. It might not be redone like MCC with better cut scenes, but close enough to me. I wouldnt bother.

That's an interesting point where level and engine optimizations create that type of atmosphere (X360), but cover LOD in the background to save on performance. Whereas in newer hardware you have the resources to render further objects/ lod/ loads in detail without destroying performance. I liked the first shot when I saw it, but going back to it after seeing the second for a bit, it looks really blurry.

Great news for PC gamers if true, since Gears 2 and 3 was never released on the platform. I just hope they do a better job porting it for PC than the awful optimization they made for the Gears 1 remaster ("Ultimate Edition" if I recall correctly)

Holy shit, it took a second look before I realized it was the same spot.
Bought this on sale ages ago and never got around to (re)playing it, had no idea they nerfed the atmosphere so tragically. Bummer.

I remember Gears 1 having some very horror moments. I never played the remake but damn it's sad to see how they killed the atmosphere.
I really hope this collection is true so I can finally play Gears 2 & 3.

I loved the horror vibe of Gears 1, that scene before you meet the berserker was done very well and the berserker was very intimidating to fight

Master Chied Collection treatment? So... a botched collection that will only get fixed to an acceptable state more than 5 years later?

While I agree on it being a distraction, Gears Judgment needs a remaster, as it was never X-enhanced. It is one of the best-looking games of the PS3/360 era and an absolute blast to play.

If it is excluded from this collection, I will riot because as you said, Gears 1-3 do not really need a remaster (though I guess Gears 2 could look much more impressive with improved lighting than it currently does).

That's just your opinion, and I don't agree at all.
Now is actually a terrible time to end the series because the current story arc isn't finished at all. There isn't even a complete map of planet Sera to this day.
4 was decent. 5 was fun.

Didn't they do something similar in 4 in one chapter? The amount of different things they could do with this franchise is ridiculous, a straight up horror game would be fantastic. I'm hoping for the next Gears a change in how it controls, I feel the sliding into to cover and stilted movement is old hat now.

I didn't feel much of a horror vibe in Gears of War 4 I didn't really like the Swarm and I missed the Locust. But I agree that a fully fledged Gears of War horror game would be phenomenal, I think that is the right move 🔥

I dont see the Gears IP as relevant anymore.
4 and 5 were okish but nothing to get excited about.
And sry but the pc crowd doesnt give a fuck about Gears.

Man i rather see Fable getting some love.
Imagine thinking Fable was either relevant OR interesting.
