Capcom updates top 10 all-time seller list, RE: Village approaches SFV

Monster Hunter has the top spot, but Resident Evil spreads the wealth

Resident Evil Village sales numbers have been touted by Capcom for a while now, but thanks to a refresh of the “Platinum Titles” investor relations page, we have an updated look at how it stacks up to everything else. The Capcom all-time seller list still has Monster Hunter: World in a commanding lead, but there’s plenty of Resident Evil to go around.

The vast majority of the list has stayed the same, with one notable exception. So Monster Hunter: Rise jumped up from a previous spot of number seven overall to number five. This pushed down Resident Evil 5 and 6, which both remain on the list. Resident Evil Village managed to crack the top 10 previously and had sales figures of 5.7 million units, and now it pushed up to 6.10, further poised to take the ninth spot from Street Fighter V. It’s just a matter of time.

I expect the next update to shake things up a bit more. We could see the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC take up a spot with its own SKU, and it’ll be bolstered by a dual launch on both PC and Switch.

Capcom all-time seller list as of May 18, 2022:

  1. Monster Hunter: World: 18 million units
  2. Resident Evil 7: 10.8m
  3. Resident Evil 2 (Remake): 9.6m
  4. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne: 9.2m
  5. Monster Hunter Rise: 9m
  6. Resident Evil 5: 8.2m
  7. Resident Evil 6: 8.2m
  8. Street Fighter II: 6.3m
  9. Street Fighter V: 6.2m
  10. Resident Evil Village: 6.1m

This makes more sense.

There should also be other system versions.
Special Championship Edition for Genesis is listed at 1.65 million. Don't see any other individual versions of SFII listed, so they're all below a million each.

SF5 would have sold more sales, had it went full multiplatform, instead of console exclusive.

Also, monster hunter rise is impressive. Both Nintendo and PC are kicking ass.

Anything RE tends to sell pretty decent. RE2make, even 3make sold millions, VII is 10m alone and Village is already 6+.

People buy these games so Capcom keeps making them.
It has to do with the game being the only good zombie game, that continued for so long.

Sadly no other zombie game comes close to this franchize.

Also, where the fuck is Leon?

Street Fighter V and Mega Man 11 very likely will be the biggest selling games in the series, as Monster Hunter World and DMCV are in their series.
Resident Evil Village is on fire too, on track to outsell REVII.

Capcom is on fire.

That's only regular SFII SNES, Turbo is 4.10 million, and Super 2 million, for over 12 million total on SNES.
Yes, Street Fighter V instead of makes you buy a full game to get gameplay updates and new characters they gave you most of that stuff for free, and the new characters unlockable by playing or bought in season passes. And had 5 season passes plus 5 CPT DLCs and many dlcs more.

Make sure every player bought on average more than a season pass or two. So if we'd count these season passes as game sales it would go way beyond these 12 million.

Kinda sad looking at that list.Dont get me wrong, I love RE, but the top 10 basically boils down to RE and MH, and Capcom is one of the companies with the most diverse lineup of IPs, such as Megaman, Ace Attorney, Dragons Dogma, Final Fight, Ghost and Goblins, etc.
I mean most of their franchises have a very niche appeal, lots of arcade style games like Sega or weird experimental titles like Ace Attorney that'll never sell 10 million copies. I think a Dragon's Dogma sequel has the potential to sell as well as RE or MonHun if it's an ambitious and impressive looking game.

The list also includes two Street Fighter games. But the list makes sense because by far their best selling series are RE, MH and SF, followed by Mega Man (more because of amount of titles releases than to sales per game) and DMC.

We're lucky that they don't only focus on best selling series but instead from time to time they also release game from smaller or older series.

Interesting fact - if you take the top 23 best selling Capcom games, combine them, they almost equal the total sales GTA 5 has accumulated so far.

Village was a great game so thats good news. Some fans didn't like it but to me it was a fun Raimi-esque romp.

Well yes, but still.

I feel like Megaman has potential to be bigger than it currently is. If Megaman 11 just became the best selling megaman game ever with the tiniest of budgets, imagine if they threw an actually decent budget with a new and innovative idea for the franchise for the next game.

I feel like DMC also has the potential to be there, if the franchise had a more consistant release schedule.

Both games which will soon be replaced by RE 8 and probably Sunbreak. And SF is as iconic as it gets, so seeing it down the list is depressing.Hopefully they turn things around with SF 6.

Like I said in the other quote, I feel like franchises like Megaman and DMC has a much bigger potential if only they had a more consistance budget/release schedule/fresh new ideas thrown in.But we will see. Capcom is betting more and more on older IPs.

No, Sunbreak is a DLC of MHR, so will sell less than it. And MHR sold like half of the MHW copies.

SFV had a rocky start but will become the best selling in the series. And if we merge the revenue with the updates/DLC of each SF series, very likely will be also the biggest one. SFV was very innovative in the series meaning it had some successes but also big fails. They fixed many of them but very likely will have been a great learning for SF6, so I assume SF6 will be better since the start.

In addition to this, SFV was console exclusive because back then Capcom needed money. Now it isn't the case, so it's going to be multiplatform and crossgen, which means a way bigger potential installbase so pretty likely SF6 will sell way better than SFV.

Capcom isn't a too big company, so they have limited resources and logically focus them on their bigger seller series. DMC and MM are 2nd tier series for them, but now are in a good shape: their most recent main entries are the best selling ones in the series even if aren't huge sellers. So they'll continue releasing more, but when possible. As an example, the DMC team is now working on the unannounced Dragon's Dogma 2, which before covid was internally scheduled to be released H2 2022 and since they didn't annouce it I assume it may have delayed, probably up to a year.

Regarding fresh ideas, after a while without new IPs, Capcom announced two new IPs for the next year: Pragmata and Exoprimal.

Might want to hold off on sf 6 speculation, something is brewing between playstation and capcom.

Unless they changed their plans, according to a verified internal Capcom roadmap document SF6 will be multiplatform and crossgen. And well, I think for Sony it would be enough to sign for SF6 the same marketing deal they had for RE Village.

I also think that if Sony buys a publisher like Square Enix or Capcom they'll do the same than they did with Bungie, or what MS did with Mojang, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard: to allow them to continue full multiplatform including rival consoles to don't keep money on the table, keeping "only" exclusivity for marketing, game subs, game+console bundles, demos and betas, plus blocking any potential future exclusives with the other console makers. Other than that, if something some games could get a timed console exclusive but that's all.

I think that as they said they'll keep PS Studios focused on making PS exclusives (+a few PC ports of old games per year) while their other publishers would be focused on multiplatform.

Good to see RE7 so high up, in my top 3 RE. Village on the other hand I bought day 1, finished 2x, wouldn't put it in my top 5 RE. Hopefully the next game in the Winters' saga is more 7 and less 8. Good to see the franchise going strong though, been a fan from the very beginning, dogs crashing through the hallway window a GOAT-tier gaming memory 👌

Rise launched a year ago. World is what, 4 years on the market? Give it time.Plus I wouldn't count Sunbreak out just yet.Iceborn is at 9 million for gods sake, so Sunbreak definely has the potential.

And SF V should be even higher.Even if it did well long term, it fumbled hard at the beginning.Console exclusivity has nothing to do with it(just look at Rise), SF V simply sucked when it launched, and its sales reflect that. So here is hoping that SF 6 gets the franchise back on its feet.

And yeah, I dont like the dinossaur game, but I hope Pragmata is successful.

Even with its rocky start, outside arcade and non-gaming merchandise, SFV is on track to be the most successful SF series ever. Counting DLC pobably already is.

But since PSP, MH always sold way better than SF. And specially now since MHW has been super successful in the west too. SFV, MHW and Iceborne are still selling, but obviously MHR and Outbreak are newer so obviously have a longer road ahead.

Still NO MENTION of the RE:VERSE bucket of shit? That was PROMISED to all buyers of RE:Village??

What bullshit, not enough people call these fucks out on this content that we're supposed to have for over a year now.

No one bought RE 8 because of Re:Verse...

I would argue that most didn't even know it existed.

It was probably canned by now, and Capcom will offer some RE 8 in its place.
