Sony May Have PS5 Marketing Rights for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Good for Sony I guess? Who cares about marketing rights?

It's a shame this game is by Ubisoft. Avatar doesn't have the best plot but I've always found the world and creatures in it to be great. Getting to explore and interact with that world could be awesome, shame it will be another bloated made by committee Ubisoft game with bland gameplay and a story that will somehow make the movie seem like a literary masterpiece.

Yep. I have and I had this to say about it the other day.

It's the best looking game on consoles right now, but Avatar clearly looks better and is pushing CPU, SSD and GPUs in ways Horizon FW just couldnt due to its cross gen limitations.

Comparing a game that's actually out and playable with some "in engine" trailer which are bullshit 99.9% of the time seems kinda pointless.

It seems like Sony is the only one that cares about marketing rights in the traditional sense. Xbox only seems to care if its coming to gamepass day one...outside of that I havent seen them do it in a while.

Cyberpunk 2077 is the last one that came to my mind.
Did they do something with Battlefield as well more recently?

? It's literally the best looking game shown on ANY platform as of now.

Even if it gets a classic Ubisoft downgrade, it will still look better than any game out there right now.

If by some miracle Avatar doesnt get delayed to 2023, this might be the only next gen only game releasing on the PS5 this year.
I didn't even realize this was due out for 2022. Also, are these running in real time? Specifically the flying sequence?

It'll be released in Ubi's fiscal year, so before March. But it'll be out in time for the movie in December for sure.

I think all of this is pointless really. Some guy said yuck to a game that looks incredible. straight up photorealistic at times. In order for me to point out why thats a ridiculous thing to say, i pretty much HAVE to compare it with something. if it was CG like Beyond Good and Evil, I obviously wouldn't have done that.

It's like if someone said yuck to Kate Upton. She's not attainable. None of us have any chance to fuck her, but yuck, really?

On a certain other site that won't be mentioned, there would definitely be some bans. haha, if you turned to look a hot chick to your right, you'd get banned. haha

It's inengine so its likely not realtime. But they have confirmed realtime ray traced GI, reflections and shadows. There is no other way to light the game. It's ray tracing only. They will use software ray tracing on older GPUs. So worst case scenario it only gets downgraded on non-RT cards, and even if it does get downgraded they will still be using ray tracing GI so it will still look somewhat closer to what we saw in the pre-rendered inengine trailer. Not a complete renderer change like we saw in Watch Dogs and Witcher 3.

There is more detail here about how they improved the snowdrop engine. Lots of new enhancements that sound like nanite and lumens.

And lets face it, it will get delayed to 2023 like every single previously announced 2022 game. Starfield, Suicide Squad, Pragmata have all been delayed. This is next.

Thanks for the info drop. This fell off my radar but actually looks promising.

People writing this off simply because Ubisoft is behind it seems pretty silly to me.

Kate Upton is a 4 out of 10 at best where I stay. Decent in the face i'll give you that. Body aint shit. She's a bass, no hips, no ass. If she had no money, Id pass by her and say nothing to her. These two things just show where your standards are.🤷‍♂️

I really dont care for ubisoft anymore. Im a huge fan of Far Cry 3, and AC Black Flag, but man they lost me last gen. Division and Ghost Recon coop games did nothing for me, and Far Cry and AC single player games became way too big and formulaic so I kinda get the complaints.

However, the game does sound very promising, and the studio can deliver gorgeous graphics. Division despite the downgrade still looks stunning, especially on mid gen consoles. And AMD has been partnering with Ubisoft on getting the most out of their ray tracing GPUs. Far Cry 5 had a very good ray tracing implementation and from dev interviews, it seems like their ray tracing solution is running on computer shaders very effectively.

" Avatar will be a title that will only appear with ray tracing. But we're developing the game so that the quality and performance will be scalable.

Stefanov couldn't give us the exact performance data, but he at least states that the ray tracing calculations using the compute shader run " surprisingly quickly ".

Ray tracing is by no means the only aspect in which Avatar relies fully on "Next Gen". How important a fast SSD is for the game
Also, only using ray tracing. (Cant be turned off) so unless they have to completely change their entire renderer because of some BS console handicap, i wouldnt expect a massive downgrade.

They asked if Avatar will have settings like CP2077 where you can turn on/off ray-tracing settings like Lighting, shadows, reflections individually, thus making it possible to run only some parts using ray-tracing and some using traditional rendering methods.

Ubisoft says, that this won't be possible and the only rendering technique used will be ray-tracing, but you will be able to scale the options. (Speculation on my part: you can do settings like ray-traced lighting/shadows/reflections: low, mid, high, but not off).

BTW, a french journalist interviewed the devs and was told this was game footage running on PC. So this is actually realtime. Albeit likely running on some insanely powerful PC hardware. probably 1080p 30 fps on consoles like the Matrix. Might actually use FSR2.0 to hit 4k.
From what the technical director told out of quality settings no big difference of raytracing. Currently console will have realtime GI and raytraced reflection for example. But development is not finished maybe it will change.

EDIT: They confirm this is game footage and quality on PC.

The thing that intrigues me most about this?
Seeing FIFA there.

Not FIFA23, or Ea Sports FIFA, just FIFA.
Whilst nearby is NBA2K. Which company will be using the FIFA brand now? Hmm.

That’s the EA sports game. You’re reading too much into that logo.

What are the other two games? The next AC and what else?

I just dont see it getting released by December. Every single game has been delayed. If it does get released because James Cameron forces them to rush it out then it will be buggy as fuck.

Skull and Bones and Mario + Rabbids

No way these consoles are having raytraced global illumination and reflections etc labelled in that video. This could be a next gen showcase on PC, but these consoles can't do that level of raytracing at decent effects levels and resolution imo.

Franchises like FIFA and Call of Duty may not be exclusive to PlayStation consoles, but the platform holder markets them as if they are. And as part of a corporate strategy webcast, it’s flagged Ubisoft’s upcoming open world Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as a potentially partnered game.

While it didn’t clarify, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said that it values its relationships with third-party publishers, and flashed up a list of logos on screen.
The inclusion of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora suggests that PlayStation has signed a deal with the release.

Great. Can't wait to see the derpy alien-cat people plastered all over my PS5 home screen.

There's also the Forespoken game which looks way worse. I wasn't aware Ubisoft announced a release date for the Avatar game.

I'll never bet against Cameron, so chances are that the movie will be a mega success, which will in turn boost the videogame sales. This project being a Ubisoft production, however, does very little to grab my attention...Let's see some gameplay first. I am not holding my breath...😐

They've been working on it since like 2016/2017 because it was supposed to arrive with the original 2020 Avatar sequel release. But then COVID happened. So it's probably just in polish mode at this point.

Does this mean just some exclusive skins or early DLC like them COD marketing rights if so who cares
