This is seriously strange if I'm reading this right. You can get GOW(2018) and Arkham Knight at the Extra tier, but the Return to Arkham Collection, GOW 3 Remastered, TLOU remastered are in the deluxe tier with the Classics? Strange fragmentation of this service imo.

Wtf Sony this is very naughty - it was sold as PS1/2 and 3 games being locked behind Premium with Extra getting all of the same PS4/5 games.

Gravity Rush Remastered
GOW 3 Remastered
The Last of Us Remastered & Left Behind
The Nathan Drake Collection

Very, very naughty.

Are they basically saying that because these games originally came out on PS3 that the PS4 remasters are ‘legacy content’?

PS1 PS2 PS3 PSP games are in classics catalog.

PS4 PS5 games are in the game catalog.

Despite an old game being ported to PS4/5, it’s still a classic game.

All the PS1 and PS2 games are technically listed as PS4 games, but they’re not really.

Can see why they’d do the same with PS3 games that got ported.

They're counting remasters under 'classics' even though they're native PS4 apps.

Weird way to distinguish it, I agree.

They could have used those games to bolster the extra tier with the understanding of those being "ps4 games". Its even more confusing to me considering I had gotten some of these games being an Essential member, and they are being placed in the highest tier now.

Anything you got as a monthly game remains. Nothing changes.

They’re just putting the classic games in the classic catalog. Idk makes sense to me since PS3 games are old.

I know that nothing changes for me. I'm thinking of it as a carrot on a stick.

This makes this more of a weird Nintendo online expansion pass rather than Game Pass.

Fragmenting content like this on a subscription service is just an odd choice to me.

It’s because most people don’t care about old games.

The Extra catalog is for most people. Modern games.

Extra tier fixed my core issue with Now - paying for old games & streaming.

I've been a subscriber to PS Now for a while now and can say from experience that 1st party games have come and gone. Games like Spiderman and TLoU2. But Sony do tell you when a game will leave.

This new subscription service might be different though and all 1st party games will stay and never be removed just like how MS treat their 1st party games on Gamepass.
I feel like they will lock everyone in for a year with this amazing lineup and then those will be removed shortly after and the games they add will be shit just like the Plus monthly free games. As a Sony 1st person, this supposed new Plus service is nowhere near as good/competitive as gamepass. At least that is also month to month. They haven't been anywhere as consumer friendly as Xbox this new gen. If Sony wasn't popping out bangers, they would be in a very different position.

Goddamn that's pretty scummy, if true.
Yep this is the way Sony is going. I've been a Sony fanboy since my PS1 and I'm starting to get really annoyed with their consumer practices. As a console gamer, it made sense for me to have both Series X and PS5 this gen to get a full gaming experience.

If that's true is utterly BS from Sony

Total bastards if this is not BS. Sony should never have entered this race to the bottom in the first place. It really lowers my perception of the brand in addition to all the penny pinching.

Ngl, I kinda dislike how this works.

Would have been nicer if there was a base PS Plus(for multiplayer+classic games) and like an Ultimate for all that+new releases like Xbox do.

Feels a bit Nintendo Switchy tbh.

Am i crazy or does that rendering resolution not even look like 1080p? You can see the jaggies on all those cars. The PS5 has enough power to push these games past 4K even, to get some kind of supersampling AA. I can run PPSSPP on my GTX 960 in 4K. I hope these screenshots are from the PS4 version but i doubt it since the image resolution is 4K. I expect the best from an official PAID emulation effort made by the real platform holder, i expect them to at least get close to what you can achieve on PC emulators made by fans for free.

What are the chances that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart ends up on this service in the near future? I see it's on sale for $40 right now, and I'm tempted to pick it up.

I would buy it if you like the franchise, its a great game. There's no telling when or if its coming to the service.

Yeah, I'm stuck. I absolutely loved the first one they remade but I still feel like waiting for it to be on PS+ is a better option for me. Hoping eventually it will be on Steam though, then I'd buy it.

If it's on the Nvidia leak list (I'm not sure if it is), then it'll come to this service first if not at the same time.

Truth be told, I never played any of them. It does look like one of those "what's not to like?" kind of games though.

I love them all apart from the multiplayer ones, but they ain't for everyone.

If you have playstation plus, download the ps4 reboot from the playstation plus collection and see if you can get into that. If you enjoy that, you'll defo like rift apart imo.

Based on one of the comparison youtube channels, PS1 games render at 1440p on PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5, PS4 super samples to 1080p. But it still drops frames even on PS5.

The emulation support is welcome, but it is kinda subpar compared to what you can run on much weaker PCs or Switch and Xbox Ones with Retroarch.

Yeah i dont understand why they dont do 4K at least on PS5. 1080p PSP is also super weird, i can do 4K PS1 and PSP on my GTX 960. PS2 is 720p because it is just the PS4 emulator running on PS5... so disappointing. The frame drops i can understand because when you emulate the original clock speeds of the original console the game runs as if it was running on real hardware as i understand how emulation works.

I'd like to see DF receipts. And also I'd like to see Switch XBO and much weaker PCs rendering something beyond 1440p. And specially a PSP emulator.

According to the Nvidia list they should have released these games:
7 feb 2022 Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection *
8 feb 2022 Ghost of Tsushima
30 apr 2022 Returnal
1 may 2022 Sackboy
3 may 2022 Helldivers 2
1 jun 2022 Final Fantasy 7 Remake
30 sep 2022 Horizon Forbiden West
3 oct 2022 Ratchet & Clank

* Was announced Sept 9 2021 for PS5 and PC as "early 2022" (but that date was for PS5, for PC was summer 2022). The nvidia list was made/leaked Sept 13 2021.

It also included Demon's Souls, God of War, Gran Turismo 7, Deracine and more. It also had around a dozen MS games listed for 2022.

As you can see the list if full of bullshit regarding Sony games. Knowing Sony said they wre going to release more games on PC some random person threw a lot of shit to the wall and one sticked: God of War was in PC this year.

What are the chances that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart ends up on this service in the near future? I see it's on sale for $40 right now, and I'm tempted to pick it up.

Well I would like to play Returnal at some point and it still hasn’t dipped below 50 euros, so I guess I would be better off paying for that extra tier and get access to the other games as well?

Is this a case of games being added to the service or are some of them leaving at point as well? (Have they made that clear yet?)

Yes, the games in the Extra tier will be refreshed every two weeks with games coming and going. Pretty much the same as Game Pass.

Im heavily invested in the ecosystem. For reference i have bought on lauch Demons souls, returnal, horizon FW, GT7, sacboy etc.

Games im interested here that i have missed but wanted to grab later on. Miles morales, GoT, Death Stranding, gardians of the galaxy, red ded2.

This is perfect for those who buy a few major releases and fill in the gaps with things they didnt get a chance to play. If i can find value here im sure alot of other folks can as well.
I agree with the other post, because I look at that list and see nearly 90% games that I played years ago. There's no incentive for me with this service.

[UPDATE] Japan's PS+ Extra Games Catalogue includes additional PS4/PS5 games to download. Some of the notable inclusions are:
  • Fallout 4
  • Prey
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope
  • Enter the Gungeon
  • Nioh
  • Frostpunk, etc.
Here is the full list of games.

These games were not part of the initial launch in Asia but are expected to be a part of the PS+ Extra/Premium launch in the U.S. and Europe.

The PS3 streaming games also include many Resident Evil games so it seems like these will vary quite a bit from region to region. We'll see what Europe gets once it's released here.

All games on the Nvidia leak have been confirmed. Nothing has been 'thrown in'.

The dates are wrong but these games are coming 100%

So the service looks pretty much on par with Gamepass or what?

No 1st party day and date doesn’t mean much when those only come once a year.
We wont truly know until we see what they start adding month to month. The initial dump was always going to be pretty decent.

They're probably going to be fairly comparable.

i think sony will have very strong 3rd party offerings. they will have to without day and date 1st party games. it already looks better than i expected it to.

We'll see. I think the safe bet is that it will be similar to GP. AA games and indies primarily. Third party stuff every once in a while. The service looks good, especially if you don't buy every first party game and are fine waiting.
