I did say similar PlayStation event. Would be weird if they dropped the release date somewhere else.

Yeah Geoff needs something big to equal last years Elden Ring reveal. Anything microsoft is off the table, anything nintendo will be in in the non existant direct. Leaves us with God of war or Fast And Furious 2: More Crossroad, More Ass.

There could be Dragon's Dogma 2, Tlou Remake, a new Mass Effect trailer, etc

Dating just ain't like it used to be...
Agreed. Ever since we've had lockdown and gathering restrictions, travel bans etc. Ugh..

OT:

My guess is that they announce the date for GoWR with a trailer at the SGF opening, and then do a dedicated SOP after SGF. Just to build the hype at the beginning of June and get things ramping up for it's SEPTEMBER 2022 release

Wouldn't Sony have at least mentioned Geoff's SGF in the State of Play is they had something big in there? I guess maybe they will hype it up closer to the show.

I don't think a dedicated SoP makes sense for this one we know how it plays, what it is

10-15min would have to spoil some things

Imo, a trailer with the release date makes more sense

Relax. We don't even have a date for this month's TMNT Shredder's Revenge game.

Of course we do, the date June the 16th or there-abouts has been leaked....in anycase the longer this is delayed the more time I have in getting around to checking out God of War for the very first time to see what all the fuss is about.. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

It doesn't make sense, but it will anyway.

Because it's a good marketing tool, as other games have shown.

And again. Most likely, there will be something like a Horizon show. Where there is a mission that may not even be in the game :)

The same could have been stated for Horizon (or R&C, Returnal and other games) and indeed in that case it turned out they made a specific footage meant for the SoP.
It could be totally possible to make something that highlights the new features of game, new weapons, new combat system, with the same amount of story related stuff they would include in a trailer.
Also in the past during the big E3 conferences even big set piecies were spoiled.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Returnal, GT7, R&C and HFW all had their own SOP - what makes people believe GOWR won’t get the same treatment?

It's not a question of if, it's a question of when. A SoP in September with a release date in November seems a bit unlikely to me. Especially as games like Horizon had release windows established way earlier in advance.

If it is being released this year, I’d say a July SOP, maybe even this month, following all the other shows. If there isn’t a SOP by the end of July/early August, I think we need to accept that it may not be releasing this year.

Ragnarok had a release window for 2021. Not sure what your point is with dates.

And so did hzd2 and gt7. But when those were pushed we were given firm dates in 2022. When gow2 was pushed we got nothing.

Still believe it will be delayed to 2023.

We had actual dates for HFW and it still got delayed same with Starfield which had a date attached to it.

The point is putting a date on it doesn’t make it firm.

Edit: Same with Halo Infinite now that I think about it,

Sony clearly have learnt from the Starfield debacle and don’t want to make any GOWR announcement until they are absolutely sure, which is fair enough.

It’s definitely possible to give a release date a few months before the game is out. We will find out soon though.

Starfield is a new IP. Apple and oranges etc. This is a sequel that looks the same from what we saw in the gameply trailer. Basically the foundations was already in place before they even began working on it. Imo it should not have taken this long for the game to release. Something def went wrong developing this game not sure if COVID is the only reason for this delay.
Almost 5 years working on GOWR? Something smells fishy for sure. But hey what do i know lol.

They wanted to work with the actor after his accident. That’s one reason why some things were delayed.

They did it for the last of us part 2, which is arguably even more story driven. They'll do it for this

like someone also said, they never revealed release dates on those dedicated SoP: GoT, Ratchet, Hogwarts, Horizon, GT 7

i mean, they did with TLOU, but that was a very specific case (game delayed, leaks, delayed again because of covid)

Everyone seems to be convinced Sony will have a big annual September SoP like the last 2 years tho.

1) The last two September they had full ShowCase, not Sop.
2) The Gran Turismo Sop came out a month before the game itself was released. What's stopping them from doing the same for Gow?
3) Most likely, the trailer with the date will be shown at Keighley, and Sop will be in July or August.

Sure, showcase.

I find the idea of Sony not announcing a release date on their own SoP but for some reason holding it back for a week later at Keighleys show weird. Yes that SoP was mostly third party, but they showed first person stuff like Horizon, Spider man etc there too.
