Diablo Immortal is heavily pay to win. Don't login for a day you will lose items you paid for

it's basically same as any other mobile game out there. people are desperate to keep hating on the game now it's out and people who actually play it are having fun with it. check the reviews... people are enjoying it. it'll be a big success for Blizzard. so try harder i guess?

if you aren't a fan of mobile games then go play D3/D2 or wait for D4.

what if i don't pay for anything? cause you don't need to pay.
Then there's no problem at all, right?

Who thought you could casually play and maybe enjoy a mobile game without spending a penny?!

The kneejerk to this is hysterical, it's like people haven't been paying attention to F2P mobile gaming practices, none of this is new. At all. It's been absolutely standard for years. I think it's primarily because it's Diablo that people are like, "OMG! THIS IS ABSURD!" Honestly all these influencers and content creators are relishing in this "drama" as it just gives them more clicks and views. Stop watching the dumb garbage, lmao.

Is it a F2P mobile game? Yes.
Can you casually play it without spending a penny? Yes.
Could you spend a ton of money on it? Yes.
Are you forced to spend any money? No.
Are these practices new? No.

It'd be great if we didn't see predatory monetization at all in any form, but considering how much money the industry makes, it's not going anywhere. So, I'd highly suggest just ignoring it, if it is bothering you that much. I've already been called multiple things here for just saying that the game is a decent casual F2P mobile Diablo experience where you don't need to spend any money, and I still think that's true. But wtf that doesn't make me a shill, lmao.

Here's a link to an article showing how much money F2P mobile gaming makes: https://clevertap.com/blog/free-to-play-games-monetization-strategy/

Isn't this a mobile game? Pretty much every free to play mobile game out there has a system like this.
EXACTLY!

That doesn’t mean we should just sit on our hands and accept it. We could get a far better product without aggressive pay to win design.
Well, yeah you kinda should accept it, this is how free mobile games make money, they sell advantages so they can take your screen time, so you engage more with their product, so you spend more.

If you don't want this, buy a mobile game that isn't free, or wait for the traditional Diablo product.

I can't actually name a game that has similar battlepass restrictions or locks you out of paid daily rewards. Closest I can think of right now is the new FIFA Mobile with its separate (and free) TOTS tracks, but even those feed into each other in a satisfying way.

Diablo Immortal invented a problem (battlepass rewards tied to class-specific loot) and fixed it by having you purchase multiple passes.

At the first age of mobile gaming I was surprised too about all these practices and I thought were unbelievable that people were accepting them. But my brother is an avid player of mobile games and to him there's nothing strange about this.

With time, I've understood that we are a really small portion of boomer gamers that have to accept that this is how gaming works now. I can't even imagine how much more money companies make with a mobile success that people plays for years spending huge amount of money on it every day/week/month, compared with a single release that costs millions and 4/5 years to make with a team of hundreds of people, and that maybe will sell couple of millions at full price in the first 2 months and then get forgotten.

IMHO The issue here stems from calling this "DIABLO" - that name traditionally carries a lot of weight among the gaming community.

The bulk of games called Diablo actually takes place post endgame and that's seemingly where the monetization is aggressively targeted at players. The cost to upgrade system they have in place for this game does seem insane on multiple levels.

The people who take issue with this are the ones that understand where Diablo once shined, and are saddened/disappointed what that name has turned into.

Exactly. You can personally boycott this all you want, but it's not going to change the fact that their machine and the F2P mobile game industry will continue to make billions. It's a shame, yes, it truly is. But folks that wish it'd go away literally cannot do anything to change it other than just ignore it and not play anything of the sort.

I was too! I'd like to assume we all were because it was SO absurd when they first came to exist, there was SO much negative press. I mean, everyone wondered "Who in their right mind would pay this kind of money?" But not long after we found out hundreds, thousands, and millions did. Effortlessly.

You can sign petitions, you can stop playing yourself, etc. But it unfortunately isn't going to make the slightest dent in the industry's successes. 🤷‍♂️

Genshin impact, honkai impact, KOF ALLSTAR, dbz Dokkan battle, marvel future fight, Fire emblem heroes, Final fantasy brave exvius... That's just off the top of my head; they all do this.
Yup! It's absolutely insane...

"Analyst firm Sensor Tower is out with a new report that says Genshin Impact has made $3 billion in revenue on mobile alone since its release, averaging about $1 billion every six months in spending. -May 5, 2022"

  • Upgrading gear is only possible through shop items
  • Loot progression is tied to rifts which need to be enhanced through ingame currency

Completing dungeons and fighting bosses does not give you rewards, instead you will get promotions for the ingame shop
etc...

These are all 100% bullshit btw. Wouldn't you rather play the game and see for yourself than get worked up by clickbaiters and permanently concerned posters?

Feels like this opens the gate for more aaa developers to make lidl variants of theire games, release on mobile and fill them with predatory p2w and mtx. And to top it off, release an even more lidl variant of it on pc and or console. =win i guess.

Genshin Impact.

Future Fight.

Im pretty sure there are others those are the ones that come to mind.
This isnt a new thing its what mobile gaming has turned into, you dont pay for the game outright but paid content forces you to login to actually get it.

If this is really problem for you guys just dont pay....or better yet just dont play.

Not touching this with a god damn glove on. Don’t give them fuel by downloading this shit as it’ll think they have community engagement.

You mean like COD, PUBG, Pokemon, Roblox(already an mtx moneypit on console), Genshin Impact, Dragonball, Marvel, Fortnite, DragonQuest, Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Fifa, Mario Kart, Fallout.

Ohh wait all these franchises already have mobile moneypit variants?
I guess diablo immortal really did open the gates like 1000 years too late....but still they opened the damn gates.

Mate this isnt new and isnt really news worthy to anyone that actually plays mobile games.
You dont want the fomo just dont play the games.....if you have any sort of self control then go ham enjoy the games and not spend a dime.

>disrespecting Lidl like this :messenger_pouting::messenger_pouting::messenger_pouting:

Anyway there have been some attempts, Command & Conquer comes to mind... Bombed really hard. Elder Scrolls Blades too. Both have a solid foundation but they just didn't put in the effort to give it that extra something that Diablo Immortal has.
Total War also fell flat with its first mobile titles but now they're successfully porting the full PC games. In fact it does so well that SEGA ported Company of Heroes too lol

Even if every single member of GAF/ERA got together and boycotted the game.....it would still make bank and they wouldnt even care if both sites filled their front pages with fuck Diablo Immortal banners.
These mobile games are for the "casuals" who vastly vastly vastly outnumber core gamers who frequent GAF/ERA.

am i doing something wrong cuz I don't have any subscription and I get daily reward every day for killing 1 monster...? I bought the five euro battle pass, other than that I'm now 32lvl and got nice 2x legendaries tthat boost my hammer of ancient skill, you get shit ton of different currencies to upgrade your stuff and buy more, that's a bit overwhelming though. I've upgraded all my gear with shit I get in-game...

If you don’t like it.. don’t play. If you do like it … play. The market will sort it out if the people like it enough or not.

It’s really as simple as that. You don’t like it .. move on ..

I was heavy into DBZ Dokkan Battle and in my first year of playing spent quite a lot of money on summons, just to get those new shiny characters that were obsolete the next month. Then I realized it's stupid, because I'm essentialy paying for a chance to obtain a low res JPG. So imagine my frustration when I would drop 60 euros, do my summons and get the worst cards in the game.

When I got over this mentality and went completely free to play, guess what? I was actually enjoying the game more, playing casually, doing some events, not stressing about this new Goku or Vegeta. In the end I still had an amazing deck of 600-700 characters, enough to clear any content.

And that's the thing with mobile Free 2 Play games. You don't need all the legendaries or whatever to enjoy it. You don't even need to play past the main campaign. Just have fun for 20-30-40 hours and drop it like you would do with a PC/console game.

So yeah, right now I'm having fun with Immortal. Should there be a serious paywall, I'm out and that's it. But I don't even care about leaderboards, PVP or best gear available, so it might not come to that.

I gave it a fair shake and yea it stinks. Playing on PC, it looks like a mobile game. Might as well play the superior diablo 3 or POE or whatever else. Playing on a phone, it is cluttered as fuck.

It is amazing how capitalism managed to put long term milking machines on some customers and at the end of the day you will own absolutely nothing.

The pushback against this game seems to be gaining steam. Very pleased with that. Rake Blizz over the coals for this imo. Mobile games like this are toxic af.

100 million dollars later:
Acti/Blizz: We should have listened to those 300 people who really pushed back against our game, fuck the 100 million dollars, we would atleast have the NeoGAF seal of approval.

Nothing like the smell of internet outrage in the morning.

Top of the store charts, decent reviews, seems like a few nerds on YouTube are outraged but most of the people this is aimed at love it.

Dont see why any of this is a surprise, pretty much follows the same model as any other ftp mobile game.

Also , buying a daily boost then having to log in to get it? o no the horror! course you fucking do thats the point. Must be tricky pulling you phone out of your pocket for 30 seconds.

Even just having a quick scan on the other site, most people actually playing the game(not me tbh) seem to like it.

Too be clear, not keen on this model myself, but lots of people are and these types of games make absolute bank and are here to stay weather you like it or not .

What other working economic system should we implement instead? It's all about supply and demand. Don't quite understand what you mean by "nothing" though, they actually gave me a product for free right now.

It should been expected.
It shouldn't been tolerated.
It's tolerated inasmuch as people are willing to pay for it. If people are paying to play this then they are doing it because they want to. Fools and their money, etc.
