Jim Ryan and Playstation must be sued for misleading PS5 buyer

It's a fair point to say that you spent money on something based on statements that were not true. Technically, Sony's statements were not true!

However. This isn't really a situation where anyone got duped into buying a bad product and lost money because of it. For example if you bought an Ouya based on some claim and were left with a paperweight you can't do anything with.

You can easily resell your PS5 for more than MSRP. So, if you want to reverse your purchasing decision, you can simply sell it and then thank Sony's lie for the yield on your investment.

I sold my ouya for full price a year after it came out as people used it for Android development.

My 2-cents...

I'd rather spend $2000 on a PC, and have access to Playstation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic than to have to buy a Playstation, an Xbox, and keep up a PC. By not buying console hardware, that's another grand I can put towards more PC stuff. It's win-win-win. I see zero problems even right now as one who owns a PS5 and a Series X.
But you can have xbox and ps cheaper than a graphics card :p
I know I know.... :p

You are comparing each individual hardware piece instead of looking at the entire pipeline on a given frame in a game. Early this generation, people assumed that the SSD was going to push visuals to unprecedented heights based on the UE5 tech demo. Assuming that the GPU is in a limitless void of performance and can render anything the SSD can bring to RAM. You do remember all of that arguing right? Where people like me kept saying that the GPU needed to transform, light and shade all of those trillions of triangles and that would be the true limitation throughout the entire pipeline? I never said the VRAM was slower than the SSD throughput. I said the amount of data that the SSD (running at it's maximum throughput) pushes to the GPU would slow the rendering process in a given frame down - not because it's faster but because of the amount of content that the data is using to be rendered.
i literally calculated for you how much data PS5 SSD can push to RAM per frame that's nothing, todays GPU's crunches amount of data in GB not MB per frame basis.
My proof is these games already out that can't even handle native 4k/60FPS with nowhere near the amount of triangles/textures that Nanite was streaming in from the SSD. Matrix demo @1080p/30FPS using Nanite/RT Lumen- hello?
like i said before the main advantage of PS5 SSD is how quickly you can get data into RAM not the amount of data there's no and won't be game where SSD will be streaming 10GB/s constantly and UE5 demos doesn't take advantage of SSD it streams iRC ~ 300mb/s and you're saying it can't render 4K/60FPS even with ~300mb/s streaming where SSD speed has no play in here because most data stays in RAM.

Why are you being rude and harassing other users?

What sony and jim ryan said back then and todays policy didnt match

You can check Jim Ryan statement in that article it didnt match his action now

The subject of this discusion isnt about how much profit sony can made but about the confusing statement from jim ryan regarding sony first party game

Prove me wrong have a nice day
You are right. I was thinking in get a PS5 to play some spiderman. I would be mad too if I had bought before and now Spiderman is coming in all its glory to pc.

I think Sony realized a lot of PC gamers just don't want a console and a lot of console gamers just don't want a PC, they are 2 separate markets that only compete with each other in a limited capacity.
There are millions of PC gamers that just won't pick up a Ps5 to play Spiderman, but they'll buy Spiderman on PC if it's made available to them. Likewise the average console buyer wants an affordable box with decent performance and a more streamlined plug and play (ish) design and won't suddenly get into building a $1200 PC just because some exclusives have made the jump to PC.

There are going to be some people who were maybe considering getting a Ps5 and will now go with a PC, but I think on a large scale they are in the minority, and ultimately they'll still be giving Sony money when they buy the games.

Not really disagreeing with you, but I think one part of the puzzle some are overlooking is that PC is now the one platform that can play both Playstation and Xbox exclusives.

I could quite easily see a third party (possibly Steam with an updated Steamdeck) releasing a PC based platform designed for the living room/handheld in a few years and emphasising the fact it can play the new Elder Scrolls AND the new Spider-Man. And if so I think that could do a fair bit of damage to the install bases of both consoles.

Whether or not this actually bothers Sony or Microsoft anymore though seems to be up for debate.

This is basically why I bought both and have put off building a new PC last year. I'm really hopeful, though, that we are going to see much more reasonable GPU prices in the next year. I'm kind of expecting several months from now I will be able to buy a very high end current-gen GPU that is not a TI or whatever for $700-$800 and get all the bells and whistles and still have another $1200 to spend on quality parts (mobo, CPU, RAM, storage, etc).

So what should be the damages awarded if sued?
That's what you get when you sue Jim over this fanboy nonsense:

That was not the question and you still didnt answer my question

My question is if what Jim Ryan said was an obvious dissinformation and misleading statement towards playstation 5 consumers

Any insults or mockery such as console warring, eat salt you ps gamer why is it matter to you if it comes to pc you salty fanboy etc or any derigatory words didnt correlate to this discusion and are edging closer to whataboutism. I was merely questioning the statement from jim ryan as the head leader of sony and his words which didnt match his action.
So hire a lawyer and sue Jim Ryan and Sony Corp. I’ll enjoy gaming on all platforms. It’s never been a better time to be a gamer. As far your “console warring” bs, you got the wrong guy. I own em all always have always will.

Still think you need to ask yourself why you care about Sony letting more gamers enjoy their titles (PC), while you still get and enjoy everything PlayStation since you own one. Seems cringy to me, but to each his own.

You’re the person who sued McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on your own damn lap, aren’t you?
yeah but no cap that was actually an awful case, McDonald’s used to keep their coffee at ridiculously high scalding temps and refused to settle for the woman’s medical fees and daughters lost earnings.

That old bitch needed skin grafts ffs.

This is just some man child complaining that he can’t laugh at PC users anymore.

That's always a possibility but I think it also involves a lot of "if".
If someone makes a living room focused PC based platform and if it's affordable and if it's a commercial success and if it starts to considerably eat into the Playstation install base, then Sony can still react and just stop releasing new games on PC.

I also think it's not as easy to make an affordable pre build PC that could really compete with consoles in the straightforward, easy to use, $500 or under space.

This thread reminds me of when I was working paid tech support jobs for big computer companies. The modus operandi when a customer is losing their shit and being irrational, stupid, and frustrated was generally to let them vent and help them out. The minute they bring up suing the company? It's off. Shit listed. See ya! Transfering you to management that specifically has legal department contacts. Good luck with the consequences of your stupidity in the future.

At the end of the day Sony is just another publisher, if they can put their games on PC and get away with it not negatively affecting their console business they will. Having a presence on PC is key for their GaaS ambitions and for them to enter new markets.

It's that simple, they have every reason to keep going into that direction as long as their console keeps selling well.

Don't worry fanboys. You can still feel good when God of war ragnarok launches as an exclusive later this year.. but the same guys will be acting all shocked and surprised when sony port it over to PC in a year or two. Sony already said they will expand to PC months ago. What did you think that meant? This is news we have known for months.

PC ports coming later doesn't bother me. I still think Sony should only focus on PlayStation but I'm not mad that they choose to get more money from another platform

Just don't get them angry by saying the best looking version will be on PC when they are touting it's the best looking next gen game to date like they do with every exclusive that gets released.

We probably won't see day one for single player games at all, because Sony is finding a balance that doesn't upset it's cash cow business.

Thanks to all who replied, but I'm pretty sure there's something here I'm not understanding. We agree Sony is unlikely to release on PC day one, as MS usually does. Why is this calculation different for these two companies?

They aren't in the same market position for one, certainly not when MS made their bold decision ~5 years ago.

They also may have different beliefs about the impact of hardware sales.

So the calculation is different. Not every business person/group believes in the same strategies. Beyond that, not everyone can experiment with their businesses like a company like MS can lol Money to burn.

Just for comparison cuz it’s funny.

Apple says Apple Music is “Only on Apple” lol

Because Apple is a platform now and therefore any device is part of it. It’s a meaningless marketing buzzword.

PlayStation and Xbox do the same shit. Ecosystem platform blah blah.

I applaud that though my point wasn't to diss Ouya. In fact I wondered if its value really tanked that bad but didn't bother looking -just an analogy to make a point.

I think they legitimately misled people when they said these games were only on PS5. I also think there was no ill intent and that games coming to PC is GREATLY accelerated due to lack of PS hardware. Their install base is gimped because they can't make enough, which was not foreseen, so they adjusted their exclusivity plans.

They also still delivered a fine, successful console of good value that is heavily in demand. So, if you really feel duped into buying something you didn't need, which in my opinion is PERFECTLY reasonable, just sell it at a profit. It might even help you afford a graphics card easier turning $500 into $800.

It's not like Sony intentionally lied about their console, created a shitshow, the system bombed and everyone was left with expensive paperweights sold with lies.

Apple TV (the service) is also on Google's Chromecast. Exclusivity is dumb.

It's actually been a year.

Even if someone at the beginning thought Sony releasing Horizon and Days Gone were rare one off games in 2020 and 2021, Sony has been focusing on PC ramp up for over a year. It's just that they didn't do it in a giant splashy promotion. Sony's way of pushing PC is as anti-climatic as you can get as they do it quietly in state of plays (a splash screen) and investor slides. Youre not going to see them do big marketing campaigns or tweets. It's always an afterthought with an announced release date close to launch.

That investors slide (I think from Spain or somewhere) showed Uncharted was coming to PC. AT the time unannounced. They bought Nixxes (porting company), they changed branding to PS for PC, they hired a mobile gaming exec, and probably some other stuff I missed.

Not surprisingly, their recent powerpoint slides have a big focus and ramp up till 2025 or 2026 with PC and mobile games.

Now, even Spiderman is coming (I think their best selling game). It cant get more obvious now. If anyone is still going to surprised LOU or GT come too at some point, I dont see how that can be given whats been done.

Sony wouldnt be doing all this if their plan was to just to keep doing random PC ports once a year as they were already doing that using tiny teams.

Yeah, they pretty much came out and told investors that they expect to go from $80 million in PC revenue last year to $300 million this year. Last year they saw Days Gone and GOW release and sell around $30 million each with the rest coming from HZD's second year. To get to $300 million, they need 10 of those releases. or 5 of those releases and 2-3 big Day one GaaS releases.

I pointed this out in that thread and was accused of trolling. Literally ten days later, the Spiderman PC collection is announced while Returnal and Sackboy PC ports are leaked.

I dont know why everything gets labeled trolling here. You cant go from $80 to $300 million without releasing a bunch of games. It's just basic math at this point.

With Uncharted set to release in June, I suspect this is what we will see on PC by March 2023
- Uncharted Collection - June - $30 million
- Spiderman Collection - August - $30 millon
- Returnal - September - $15 million
- Sackboy - October - $10 million
- Day One TLOU Factions with TLOU 1&2 remasters. <<< Their first GaaS game. - November 2022 - $50 million
- Horizon FW - February 2023 - $30 million
- GT7 - March 2023 - $50 million
- GOW/Days Gone/Horizon yearly revenue - $50 million.

That still only gets us to around $270 million but Sony might be inflating some estimates to appease shareholders. I dont see them releasing GOW2 day one and risking Bryank's wrath, but I think they are definitely going to wait just 1 year to port both HFW and GT7.

P.S Bloodborne might get priority over Horizon or GT7 depending on whether Nixxes is porting those games. I think Sony would be stupid not to cash in on the Elden Rings craze on PC where steamspy counts suggested almost 15 million players. Turns out those were mostly game shares, but there is a huge demand for souls games on PC. I wouldnt be surprised if they are forcing Bluepoint to port Demon Souls and Bloodborne to PC right now for March. now thats a $100 million game even after the 30% valve cut.

But like...who cares if it's on PC? It's still on PS5. So like...if you have a PS5 and prefer that, just like...play that shit? I don't understand, but I'm pretty people like this are the reason they put warnings on things like chainsaws that say "Not for sexual intercourse," or like bristle pads "Product is not intended as a douche," or whatever.

Is Bungie perhaps factored into the $300M?

The only people IMO opinion that have a right to gripe about PC ports pissing them off are the people who fit in this kind of situation

- The past year or so where they dont follow gaming news of PC focus, but you cant blame them as Sony's PC news is often last minute and discreet
- They bought a PS5 system for first party exclusives
- They are strictly a one platform gamer. So their new PS5 is their new platform focus
- If they knew PS games would be going PC, they know for sure they would stick to PC gaming and their PC is good enough to play PS ports at PS5 quality or better

So in this kind of situation, you can see someone who doesn't follow gaming news and assumed PS5 would continue exclusive games like previous PS systems would be pissed. He flip flopped system of choice from PC to PS5 when he could had just stuck with PC.

But in reality, how many gamers are in this situation?

Possible, but Bungie's yearly revenue is around $200-300 million and PC is only 1/3rd of that. They still need to find the remaining $230 million from somewhere else. And that means ports, lots of ports.

Another interesting thing i found is number of GaaS franchises. They count The Show 22 as a GaaS franchise, but not GT7. So it's possible they have The Show 23, Factions and another unannounced first party GaaS game coming out by March 2023. This could be the GG GaaS game they hired those rainbow six devs for. That could be the PS5/PC only game they are referencing in the PS4, PC and PS5 slide below.
