[Tom Henderson] Official PlayStation 5 “Pro” Controllers Coming Soon

You can limit the distance the trigger will move for games where you don't have to use all the way to get reinforcing effect like a racing game. In some games, triggers are just used like a button with an on / off feature and with a limit you could "trigger" the effect much faster.
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks. Not sure I'd know which games only use it like regular buttons.

I'm definitely down for a pro version of the DualSense even if it comes at a steep price. Provided that it is in fact professionell. The DualSense already feels great in terms of processing but lacks battery life. I really hope, if true, that Sony thought this out and delivers a highly customizable, reliable and advanced piece of remote here.

So if a stick is drifting are we able to change it without any issue? Also... does this mean PS controller can finally have the left stick in an appropriate position?

But does it have the TURBO buttons? That shit was wild!

I remember having a PS1 controller that had individual turbo functions for every button on the controller that could be set as off, slow repeat and full on repeat.

Edit: found the beast

After my Elite Series 2 got bad drifting and the triggers got stuck after barely 2 months of use, I will give it a pass on launch. Still, I'll look for reviews of it before buying any scuff/pro/elite controller.

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
Put close to 200 hours into Dark Souls III and maybe 600 on GTSport with no issues *PS4Pro

Bought a Series S. Tried Forza Horizon, felt very weird. Bought Elden Ring close to 300 hours and no issues.

I dunno.

My only issue with the DS4 was my left thumb slipping upwards. And with the Series Controller it's loud af dpad click

Fighting games i think, Souls games, lots of indies...

I mean it is just an option in the end but for some, such a feature makes sense. You can already remap the entire control scheme in most games and when you end up with an unimportant prompt on a trigger it could be useful to fasten up the execution with such a limit.

Asymmetric stick layout does feel better. I suspect it might be because the left stick is normally pressed upwards while the right stick is pressed left and right and asymmetric might be a more natural fit then. I'm open to symmetric sticks on top being the best but I haven't used that layout enough to say.

So yeah, I hope Sony allows switching the stick and d-pad, though I realize it's a long shot.
Agreed. The symmetrical sticks on the Wii U Pro Controller weren't awful but the Switch pro controller is just so much better. Definitely feels more natural.

Maybe one of these days Sony will give us what we want... I'd love to have a DS5 for my PC.

I often see these type of comments, about people who don't understand why many prefer the asymmetrical design, like if our thumbs / hands weren't symmetrical. But that's the thing, asymmetrical sticks is actually more "symmetrical" when you hold the controller, because most of the time you will have your left thumb on the left stick, and your right thumb on the buttons, for like 90% of your playtime, since the right stick is a secondary stick for camera controls. So asymmetrical actually make your thumbs positionned symmetrically when playing.

I go back and forth between DualSense and Xbox controllers on a regular basis and for me and it never ever registers to me that the thumbsticks are symmetrical or asymmetrical. They both feel completely natural for me.

Very well may be that a lot of people have a real preference, but I also think that for "many" the whole controller debate is just another battle in the console war.

Sounds very much like Sony's version of XB Elite Controller, which is easily the best controller for online competitive gameplay, so it's most certainly gonna be hella good.

If Sony can merge DualSense and Elite controller then I'll buy the thing day one. Damn the price.

Well I can't speak for everyone but I prefer asymmetrical and in my case it's really not a console war thing as I'm playing on PC only :messenger_grinning_smiling:
I'm actually quite tired of the Xbox Series controller because of how loud the dpad is, the amount of issues I've been having with these controllers, and the stupid overly bright led that you can't turn off, I had to put tape on it because it bothered me when playing at night.

I was thinking about trying the dualsense lately but it really doesn't seem ideal on PC sadly, with lack of support, lot of various issues (I even heard about games like Horizon Zero Dawn messing up with haptic feedback and audio on dualsense, making sound coming from... the grips :messenger_neutral: ), I'm also scared about going back to symmetrical, but in the end... the dualsense has the same stick issues as the xbox controller so it's not really a win anyway :messenger_pensive: The only upside would be being able to control the light and less loud dpad.

If the Xbox Elite controller was actually really a premium product that could last years, I would go for that, but since it's just as bad, durability wise, as the regular ones...
I really want a good controller, no matter who made it.

I'm with you. On PC, I only use Xbox controllers, but primarily because I like the prompts to match the buttons. I've been pretty lucky with controller quality though. No drift and no defects.

Sources have revealed that Sony is creating a new "Pro" style controller for the PlayStation 5!

Sony is working on a “genuine professional controller” for the PlayStation 5 and the company will reveal new hardware in the coming weeks, sources have claimed.

It’s believed the codename of the controller is “Hunt”, which will have several interesting features including removable analog sticks, trigger stops, and rear buttons (flappy paddles).

These claims of such hardware came alongside pictures of the alleged prototype, which has been sent under the condition that the pictures are not published and the source remains anonymous.

Pictures of the controller keep the classic PlayStation 5 style but show a few key differences. One of the biggest changes is buttons under the analog sticks, which allow you to completely remove the analog sticks and their components; which Sony refers to as “removable stick units”. This presumably means you’ll just be able to be a stick unit, rather than a new controller if it develops “stick drift” (where your analog stick drifts one direction without moving).

Another feature includes the trigger stops at the back of the controller, in addition to flappy paddles/buttons that have become increasingly popular over the years with players turning to companies such as SCUF Gaming and NACON for such controllers.

The prototype also features grips to help hold the controller, which also seems to be removable.

According to the same source, it’s also been said that the PS5 controller, which was referred to as the “PS5 Pro Controller” in casual conversation, will have significant software upgrades.

It’s unclear when exactly the new controller will be revealed, with the source simply saying “it should be soon”. However, it is understood by several sources that Sony is set to unveil several new bits of hardware at the end of this month (not a new console), but it’s unclear whether or not the lineup will reveal this new controller.

I think my standard controllers will do just fine for the 40 hours or so of playtime my ps5 gets per year. But have fun to whoever needs this.

My issue is with the stick placement.

Edit: To be honest I would also like a back button accessory for the Dualsense. I would get that instead of a 200$ controller.,
That the universal stick placement though Nintendo stcks placement are the same
I think it finally time Sony do the same

OK how bout something like this swappable module

That looks ugly and I question it’s durability.

Anyways if Sony does make a Pro controller it most likely will support a symmetrical layout. Doesn’t make sense for them to only offer an asymmetrical layout when the DualSense is symmetrical.

Edit: Just to make you feel better I wouldn’t have an issue if Sony offers two different types of Pro controllers.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
$100+ controllers here we go..
Given TLOU collectors edition costs 100 USD, I'd say its a safe bit that this controller will be priced higher.

Whats the elite 2 controllers price in comparison? I tried checking it on amazon but they only seel used copies. Are they no longer producing these?

It's funny, imo the standard PS5 controller is worlds above the Series X controller (except the design and feel of the triggers) Series X triggers are pretty nice! Pro Controller is welcome but not necessary for me personally.

I have forever had a problem with the standard Series X controller, I can't stand the clicky clacky D-Pad and the clicky clacky face buttons. It's so loud, annoying and feels so cheap. If my partner is playing I can hear the clicking from 2 rooms away. Please Microsoft revise your standard controller.

People complain about $500 consoles and $70 games then evidently buy enough $200+ controllers (that break within a year) to make this a worthwhile investment for Sony. The R&D, opportunity cost, whole new manufacturing line, and marketing are not insubstantial, MS, SCUF et. al have to be selling a lot of these to make it worth Sony's time. "GVMERS" deserve every turd these company's shit on their head, a steaming pile spineless, mindless, dumbasses buying billions of dollars of lootboxes from their drifty $250 controllers.

Sadly the most troubles I have had with Xbox controllers are the elites but can't wait for this PS5 Pro controller all in

Fuck this respect. Battle it out.

If you want asymmetrical sticks we have a console for you.

I actually love the symmetrical sticks on the Dualsense. Ever since the first PlayStation I’ve been using that type of layout. If anything I don’t think Sony should change the design since it’s worked for them over all these years. I’m fine if 3rd parties and other consoles do it differently though.

I don’t want a rational post. I want to see two fanboys battling it out. Away with this logic shit. Fight!

I like everything on Dualsense, but Xbox controller has that perfect shape that makes life of my big hands so much easier.

I guess there's no chance for changing the shape, right?

I prefer sony's sticks, membrane buttons and especially the d-pad...
