Battlefield 2042 is reportedly in ‘abandon ship’ mode as EA switches focus to the next series entry

Actually, someone did some research on developers names and concluded barely, if any, developer from BF3/4 was still at DICE, a significant portion of BF1 devs didn't work on V, and the same happened to 2042, meaning that the studio was rebooted few years ago.

Thats actually not true at all.

You can look this up too. I wanted to know how much of that was really true too, so I looked it up and started to see how many, most have worked on past BF titles. I don't see enough evidence to suggest a significant portion of a 800 man team is just up and gone. I looked up the credits on 2042 as you can see them in game and majority of what I see is past BF titles like 1, V, 3 etc.

Lots leave, but lots leave teams in general, but I don't see enough to suggest most, a significant amount etc. The credits exist to look all this up. The issue seems to be what EA wants vs the exact team. Even if you get 100% EXACTLY 1.1 the team that did BF1, how the fuck do you know EA lets them make that type of game again with no mtx or woke shit lol

So the maps being bigger in 2042 don't have to do with a new map designer, it has more to do with a new lead designer telling the old ones what to make. EA would need to be corrected themselves before we even wish for some exact team set up lol I just don't think the exact, 1.1 amount from 1 game to another matters as much as many of you think. Thats to even fucking assume EA was always giving them all this freedom and the team solely fucked up the games or something. I just doubt that a lot.

Not enough inputs on a controller.

Insurgency Sandstorm came to console and its holding the devs back.
Is that what the devs said?

https://squad.fandom.com/wiki/Controls

These would easily map to a controller and you wouldn't even need many combination keys or double-taps. Regular controller bindings including a combined stand, crouch/hold to go prone would be piss easy to implement. What am I missing here?

No, but it's pretty obvious when they hold back updates so they can release them at the same time as consoles.

How are you going to map the 3 mic buttons?

Thanks for the clarification, I saw in ResetEra I think, it was a chart about the number of developers who had worked on the previous BF game and that 2042 barely had anyone from BF1, maybe it was about key devs and veterans?

100% this.

If the game didn't sell, I could understand them abandoning it. But it sold well. Over 4M copies in the first week. They owe a proper product to those who paid, or at least a refund or heavy discount on the next version.

If all the people who bought the game, especially the ultimate edition, are just left out to dry, man, they'd best not be buying the next game.

We really have to stop rewarding these jagoffs for this kind of slimy behavior.

I'm really interested to see how the community reacts to the next installment.

The problem is player base. The game was meant to be a GAAS title with ongoing support and MTX transactions and such supporting continual content. But unlike their other games that sold well and had trouble, the player base for this game completely died due to their lack of support and bad word of mouth. Even V and Battlefront 2 with all their troubles, kept a decent sized player base playing and supporting it for their fixes and delays. But this game completely lost majority of it's player base numbers. Without players actually playing it, it's not worth spending any money into it.

My argument would be "tough shit" for EA. The onus is on them to hold up their end of the bargain, to take the gamble of spending the necessary resources to correct the game to try to draw players back.

From a plain profit/loss standpoint, yeah, you're right. But EA is the one in a PR deficit here. They need to go the extra mile.

Or maybe they don't. Maybe the community will make the same mistake twice. Only time will tell.

But from my perspective, EA sold 4 million copies of a piece of shit. They can (and should) afford the effort to turn it around.

LB to open the mic channel, then toggle between them with the d-pad?

Series X and PS5 both support mouse and keyboard inputs too. Some devs choose to support it and some don't.

Well I paid for this steaming pile of cock, figured I'd try out the new map: it's good! Honestly, genuinely good, with lots of elevations and ways to get around. Really good vehicle, particularly air, combat. The map feels the right size for 64+ players, unlike the earlier maps which were too large and barren. My only complaint: still very little destruction. From that perspective this still doesn't entirely feel like a BF map.

Unfortunately the specialist system still gets in the way most of the time, and there really isn't much else new. It's sad that this is all they've mustered after about seven months.

Oh, and it crashes frequently. Doesn't leave anything in any logs, doesn't drop a memory dump, nothing. Just crashes to desktop, weeeee. The longest session I went without a crash was about 40 minutes.

Dodged a nice bullet with this one, just like i did with V and I.
Kill the franchise and shut down DICE. This shitty company is done for good.

So much for not adding a campaign in order to focus on the MP.

Fuck Battlefield, EA and DICE.

Yeah the new map is pretty fire. 2042 officially has 1 good map.

Keep in mind, this game is going on EA Play. Which means, by proxy it is going to be on game pass. There will be a nice burst to the player count even if the game does not go f2p. Just thinking of this in eventual terms. Not in some for certain I have an insider/rumor thing

BF4 was great. BF5 was terrible at launch, but later on they fixed it and the pacific maps are pretty good. What I'm worried about is those people in DICE who were insisting in making a WW2 game about women representation in videogames. It's like, what the fuck are you doing? This is a videogame. If you want to give players the option to play as women, just do It. But don't fucking lecture me on how virtuous you are.

BF 2042 also has a trans black woman that, again, if you want to make that an option is all right. But don't fucking push it on people. Warzone has all kind of women specialists and nobody says a thing. Why? Because they are not forcing it on people.

The problem with DICE is they don't have their priorities right, and it shows. They think they already own the player base, so they feel entitled to push on us whatever their ideology is. That's what worries me about the next game, the risk of them pushing their agendas again, plus monetization or whatever bussiness model they like, without caring about whether that's enjoyable or anybody wants to play it. I don't think they can fuck up many more times before people give up on them for good.

Repurchased again for $10 from GameFly.

I had most of my fun playing old maps on Bf Portal so hoping if I put more time into the game, I’ll find the same amount of enjoyment.

Dice is the most schizophrenic studio ever. Literally all they need to do is change the art assets according to the theme and they're set.

Battlefield 1 did getting a woman in there well. Or rather, they just had a good campaign that happened to have you play a female protagonist.

I was watching the Modern Warfare II reveal today and was very impressed by the visuals. The new IW engine is producing exceptional graphics, and I think it's fair to say is now above Frostbite.

How does that relate to the thread? Well I randomly remembered today the time this DICE employee was running his mouth on Twitter about Infinite Warfare:

6 years later and where are we now? Battlefield is basically dead, while COD is as popular as ever (and worth MS paying $65 billion for it).

What say you now, Roland? You snooty bitch.

Decided to try to check it out again. Been in a lobby on PC, with cross platform enabled, for about thirty minutes in the main queue. 10/128 was the highest the queue reached.

Holy shit this game is dead. Just kill it, refund season passes, and try to save your brand. Also fire every last game designer on your rolls DICE. You're setting yourself up for future failures if you don't.

Remember this when they try to peddle their next scam with snazzy trailers, two years from now. These fucking hacks are as greedy as they are incompetent.

Fuck EA

Fuck DICE

and FUCK Battlefield.
You can always count that fanboys and their uncontrollable stupid hype will forget all this and make excuses for the pre ordering of the next game ... and so the industry only gets worse ... people lost the ability to think and wait ... just freaking wait

Remember when Battlefield was such a graphical horsepower that PS360 versions ran at 30 FPS and had to slash the maximum players in MP to half? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

It took a generation to COD to surpass Battlefield in tech and DICE couldn't respond it and their engine is now considered a hassle.

I was thinking the same thing after several attempts, but not sure what I am missing. I was choosing the main all out war (or whatever it's called) queue. I made sure cross platform was enabled. Also reset settings. 🤷‍♂️

Why is this post getting so many likes? The man who tweeted this left DICE 6 years ago.

What a fail of a post.

What a fail of a post.

It doesn't matter if he left, it was still reflective of the culture there. Other DICE employees resorted to the same sniping at the time. Several of them later deleted these comments like pussies after the backlash:

So was it a 'game from 10 years ago' or CG? Immensely ironic too, considering many Battlefield reveal trailers have been 'in-engine' bullshit - moving bullshots that weren't at all representative of real gameplay.

Randy Evans is still a creative director of media at DICE, while Julian still works at DICE LA on the Battlefield Portal mode. These people who delighted in shitting on COD are still involved with the series.

I'd think as people in the industry, they'd be above childish Twitter slapfights like that. Infinity Ward were much more courteous:

Kj3Uks2.png

So i'll re-iterate, once again - i'm glad the cocky little shits at DICE got their comeuppance and the nice people at Infinity Ward are going from strength to strength.

I'm still playing regularly (right now is my main MP game) and can confirm it has come a long way. No problem finding games regardless of the size and the new map is indeed very good. Probably belongs with other classic like Strike at Karkand and Iwo Jima.

Just started playing again the other day as well and having fun with it. New map is great, especially in Breakthrough mode. Performance is better than I remember in every regard, including audio. Feels like Battlefield again.
