For me I never, personally, to my own situation cared about authenticating my stuff. The console was at home wired, or parents home over WiFi.

With XB1 it was the whole no used games carry-on that stuck in my craw. Once a month/week is fine, at least its not once a day or locking used games.

I've been wrong about most AAA games, in that I expected to really enjoy them based on what everybody parroted about them. I don't particularly care about Gears of War, God of War, Halo, etc.

I've been wrong about thinking I wouldn't enjoy stealth games. First one I played was Splinter Cell Chaos Theroy, and the rest is history. Really enjoyable genre.

Eh, sony and nintendo never lock you out of single player games you purchased . . . period.

they do if you are offline and you console is not set to your home/main console... that's how it works since forever on all systems (except nintendo systems of the past, who usually had really weird systems, often locking games to a certain system)

I don’t think that is true.

It does appear that free games from PS Plus are also accessible to other accounts on the device, no matter if there is an internet connection or not.
https://playerassist.com/activate-a-ps5-as-primary-for-console-sharing-offline-play/

Sony rarely ever goes offline as well which makes it harder to test.

I don’t think that is true.

of course it is. you need your system set to home console, that is the only way to play digital games offline on every modern system.

I play on every console and as someone who has 2 of each, mainly for local multiplayer in games that don't have splitscreen, I have come to know the ins and outs of these systems.

for example, on Xbox, as long as you are logged in, even on a non-Home Console, everyone on the system will have access to your library and Xbox Live Gold. so technically you can account share over multiple systems with multiple friends and they can play all your games on their accounts as long as you don't play anything (at which point they will be kicked out of the game, quite similar to how Steam family sharing works)
it's the only system that has that feature.

on PS4/5 only the owner of a game/subscriber to PS+ can actually use them when logged into a non-Home console

so that's the main difference between them... and Nintendo is of course super weird with their online subscription as you can't share those at all and every account needs a sub to play online, no matter if you are on your home console, that is how things worked on Xbox 360 btw as well.

a bonus for people that own both a PS4 and a PS5 is that you can set 1 of each as your home console, which is not possible on Xbox One and Series X|S. so you can have 1 Home Console PS4 and 1 Home Console PS5 active at the same time.
you can also exploit that by maybe giving one of your friends who still plays on PS4 complete access to your library and PS+ subscription and it won't affect your PS5 home console whatsoever.

but yeah, those are the main differences between how accounts work on all current consoles.

The quote I provided above states that being offline doesn’t affect it on PlayStation.

That’s the difference between PlayStation and Xbox.

well yes, if your system is set to home console, that is not a difference between PS and XBox tho as it works the same on Xbox. like I said, I have 2 of each and with all that licening things going on between them I over the years learned the ins and outs of all of them

I don’t think you read the quote properly, it states for accounts not set as home.

You can only have one home account right?

the article literally is about BEING ONLINE, while BEING ONLINE you set a system to a HOME CONSOLE, of which you can only have a single one of each generation.
as soon as you set it to HOME CONSOLE while BEING ONLINE you then can use all the games offline with other accounts on this singular console

exactly how it works on Xbox and Switch

no it doesn't. it states you can PLAY offline, you can not set your system to home console while offline. setting your system to home console also checks and, if needed, deactivates the last system you set to home console, that needs an online connection

it works EXACTLY like on Switch and Xbox, as does basically everything else that has to do with DRM on these consoles.
the only difference on topic here is that higher PS+ tiers need a weekly sign in while Gamepass only needs a sign in every 30 days to work offline

Not sure what you’re not seeing, the below part says it all but no point continuing the convo any further.

they are accessible AFTER you set it to home console, which need to be done online to work. try it if you don't believe me. make a new playstation account, that's done in like a minute. then try to log in on your PS5 while it's offline, that alone is impossible to begin with so log in online.
then once logged in, set the console to your home system... see if it works

Tested and it worked. Created a new offline account, logged in and loaded up Astro’s Playroom.

No issues.

wow, that is great, now set your console to your home console while being offline.

what you did right there has absolutely zero to do with the topic at hand btw. how does that demonstrate anything exactly? you played a game another account owns on a system which said account already has set to its home system (which said account also had to be online for to work)

that is not a PSN account, and therefore can not own any games. an offline account is not a real account that can do anything. all an offline account can do is play games other people own.

and it has ZERO to do wth what we are talking about

after thinking about your incoherent ramblings here for a minute... I begin to think that you seriously think that your account has to be set to home console in order to use the games, other people own, that are installed on the system...

that is the only explanation that makes sense after reading this confusing stuff right here...

well you don't... on no console.
the account THAT OWNS THE GAME YOU WANT TO PLAY OFFLINE has to set the console to his home console... and that can only be done while being online.
and after you habe done that, every other account can play all the games THAT OTHER ACCOUNT owns. no matter if offline, online, whatever. and that is, again, exactly how it works on Switch and Xbox

Ever had to restore your licenses on a PS4 or PS5?
Nope. Been on PS+ since day 1 for the PS3 Phat boi (swapped 7200rpm WD Black), now I use the PS3SS, still have the OG PS4, and now the PS5DE.

Never once had to restore licensees, even though the option is quick and easy from what I understand for those that do.

Ever had to restore your licenses on a PS4 or PS5? It’s in the settings menu. It happens to all purchases if there’s a problem or your console isn’t set as your primary.
That never happened to me lol. And, no, it doesn’t happen if your console isn’t set as primary as I shared my account for the longest time and never had to do it even once.

So it has to be a secondary console that you have to restore due to some issue . . . I'd have to take your word on that . . . still hardly the same as the crap DRM that's on Xbox.

Will never understand why Sony (and Microsoft) don't just make a mandatory system update that would have an internal calendar/clock that users can't access in order to verify how long a user's subscription is. With all the tech nowadays, you would think they both could accomplish this without putting restrictions of any kind on their subscriptions.

That is how it works. The servers they connect to have a set datetime. The license it downloads is based off of that datetime. The clock within the system itself is set to that datetime. When you change the clock manually, you are actually only entering in a plus or minus to that set clock. So changing the date of the console itself should not change the valid/invalid state of the license.

I don't get why you need to do this surley if you have an active membership then it should know you have the right to access them, and if your membership runs out it run out the game won't start . I don't sub so I don't know myself just querrying.

You’re really going to try to justify this?
For you and anyone else upset about this, I have a question about an issue with the service, and I'd like to hear your opinion of how it could be fixed.

When people pay for PS Plus Extra, they pay for the amount of time left on their subscription. This is a nice system, helps people try the service for a lower cost, and ultimately seems pretty pro consumer. For 12 months of PS Plus Extra, the cost is 40 dollars. For six months of Extra, you'd pay half that at 20 dollars. If you get the service in the last two weeks of your subscription, you'd be paying less than two dollars.

My question to you is how do you allow this system to exist without having a weekly login, but prevent people from filling terabytes of external hard drive space with upwards of 50 to 100 games for the cost of a couple of dollars total, making it so they have an almost free backlog for years to come?

Nope. Sony and Nintendo never lock you out of single player purchased games period . . .

try it. deactivate your system as your home console. then go offline and try to play a digitally bought game

edit: currently recording a video demonstrating that I'm right... which is something I have to do very frequently on this forum full of casuals that don't even know how their own console works

That was already known and it’s understandable since the games are not yours, they’re rented. Can you play gamepass games offline indefinitely? And Nintendo Online games?
Now open the gates for the fake outrage and CONCERNED CITIZENS.
The license to play them is yours, you should not need permission of nanny Sony to do it.

Is this ok if my friend is in another country? And can we be logged in at the same time? Won't I get banned if they detect 2 IPs logged in the same account from 2 different countries?

I mean, I never did this in such an extreme scenario, but it should work.

also your friend doesn't need to log into your account to play games, he would need to log in to download a game you own but if his system is set to home console on your account he does not need to log into your account to play your games.

as to sony banning you, I hope they won't, and I doubt they would. there are certainly people that travel for their jobs who take their PS4 Slim with them n shit, so it would be kinda wild if Sony banned you for that

I can record this on my PS5 too if you really want, but I was sitting on my PC desk and my Pro is right next to me so I did it there

Isn’t that an online only game?

that makes no difference, I can show you that too if you really want... I would be able to start Apex Legends for example, because someone else on the system (my main account), who has this Pro set to the home console, "owns" the game. as soon as a lock is displayed that means you have no license to play the game. that is universally true, no matter if it's an online game or offline.

if you try to play an online game you "own" while you are offline you will get an in-game massage telling you that the game only works if you are online and it will send you to your network settings
