Eurogamer flagged up some titles that have expiration dates -

  • Shadow Warrior 3 - 5th July 2022
  • Syberia (PS3) - 19th July 2022
  • NBA 2K22 - 31st August 2022
  • WRC 10 - 31st August 2022
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 - 20th September 2022
  • Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - 17th October 2022
  • Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (PS3) - 17th October 2022
Interesting that PS3 games are leaving, this could be how the PS3 servers are killed off - by slowly removing titles from PS+ Premium until there are nothing but PS4 and PS5 games. Might take til the end of the decade to do it with more PS4/5 games taking their place.
I imagine it's because a possible RDR1 remake is on the horizon which would make less sense for them to keep RDR PS3.

Not really for me, not much for PS5 and already have everything on disc. Same with PS3 and PS4, already played most of the interesting stuff on plus, GP or have it on disc.

I think TLOU Remake is a "safe" test for them in that regard; it'll be Day 1 on PS5 and PC, but it's technically a remake of an almost 10-year old game.
TLOUR won't be released on PC day one. They didn't announce the release date of the PC version and in fact with the Sony slide we know it won't be released this fiscal year so will be released later than March 2023, more than half a year later than the PS5 remake and yes, almost 10 year after its original release.

Remember that Demon's Souls Remake "mistake" graphic from their September 2020 show that said "PC" as well? I think Sony were probably considering trying this strategy way earlier, but maybe 2020 was too soon, so they backed off (I'm just speculating on that one).
It was a mistake, Demon's Souls remake was released in 2020 for PS5, it isn't announced for PC and during this fiscal year PS Studios won't release nothing on PC other than the announced Uncharted and Spider-Man titles.

It's similar with their approach to Day 1 in their own service, for reasons as you mentioned. They have to make sure that 1: The revenue coming from the subscription service is enough to cover potentially multiple $100+ million 1P games' revenue losses from players waiting to access them through the service instead of buying them, and 2: do so in a way where revenue from the sub service isn't simply "absorbing" that lost revenue, but adding on top of it.

For example, say Sony announces Spiderman 2 is coming to PS+ Premium Day 1.
Sony said they won't release their games day one on PC and that won't put their games day one on their service, but that they'll experiment with different distances. What they may have day one in their service is a time limited trial.

And Stray will be 1st AA game you’re referring to since the reboot to test the waters on day one. 👌🏽
It won't be the first, Sony has been doing it since many years ago: from time to time they include a 3rd party indie or AA game at launch in PS Plus or PS Now. I remember the recent cases of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown or Shadow Warrior 3, or in the past Fall Guys or Rocket League.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

No, it's just R* being R*. They don't keep their games on any sub service for more than 3~6 months. They even took off GTA SA's shitty remaster from game pass after 6 months.

If anything, a remaster for RDR 2 is more likely and would be closer, but as of yet either of those things (Remake or remaster) are only forum posts, nothing solid.

I think a RDR2 remaster doesn't make sense because the original one already looks great. Maybe a next gen SKU only adding Dual Sense, 3D audio and super fast loading stuff and almost nothing else would be enough for them. But a remake of RDR for the next gen using the RDR2 engine I think it makes a lot of sense specially looking at RDR2 sales, much highers than the ones of the first one.

So many wrongs i don't know where to start. People comparing game pass to PSNow are wrong too,
Sony got successful with their game subscription PS Plus and MS time later did their own version which was Games with Gold.

Sony later did a game subscription with hundreds of games and cloud gaming, and mentioning that their idea was also bring it later to PC and mobile. Some time later MS did their own version which was Game Pass (+ GPU).

They are multi tiered game subscriptions for console and PC, with hundreds of games and some of them via cloud gaming. They obviously are different, but are comparable. Same goes with comparing Xbox, Nintendo and Sony consoles: they are different but are comparable because they are consoles.

RDR2 you're right. They did the same thing last year. July till November on PS Now and now June till late September on PS Extra/Premium. They have had RDR1 PS3 on it for years though AFAIK (3+ yrs?) which is why it's a little strange for that to go at the end of this year. I suspect this might be because the rumoured remake is true but of course that's all speculation.

PS3 games have been on rotation with certain publishers for years now. Metal Gear Solid 4 has left and came back a number of times throughout the years. Same goes for Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PS4 side. I’ve seen that game come and go about 2-3 times already.

My bad, I did forget that part with the PC version coming later. However, it's still safe to say TLOU Remake might be a test in the sense it could be the shortest gap between PS to PC for a big Sony 1P game.

I think this is where the Nvidia leaks is messing up a lot of expectations, mine included. Because a lot of things on the 3P side have been verified and lining up timeline-wise, but only some of the Sony stuff has come true and with time deltas notably larger than what that leak suggested. It's leading to the idea that maybe it's best not to reference the Nvidia leak when it comes to Sony 1P content, which I wouldn't mind.

It was a mistake, Demon's Souls remake was released in 2020 for PS5, it isn't announced for PC and during this fiscal year PS Studios won't release nothing on PC other than the announced Uncharted and Spider-Man titles.

Yeah it could've been a mix-up for another 1P game that has since been announced coming to PC like TLOU Remake, that is a possibility. But if Sony are using a game like TLOU Remake to test the shortest PS > PC porting window they can get away with, without alienating PS console owners, there might be a slight chance (however small) that Sony could've at one point been considering something like Demon's Souls Remake for that type of test, but then decided against it.

At this point though it's probably best to just say it was a mistake; I already have my own opinions on Sony's PC porting strategy, they line up a lot with your own. But in the case there's deviation from what's to be expected on that front, it's important to keep these other less-likely scenarios in mind to reference to. I doubt we'll need to do that, though.

Sony said they won't release their games day one on PC and that won't put their games day one on their service, but that they'll experiment with different distances. What they may have day one in their service is a time limited trial.

They may have said that, but you have to be open to the idea that they COULD change that opinion when it comes to the live-service, GaaS titles. Those are the ones that could be Day 1 PS5/PC, though whether that's published under Sony (the PC versions), I don't know. They're the only games where that strategy actually makes any sense IMHO, because if they are very community-driven, you don't want the half of the community on one platform to be at a potential competitive disadvantage to those on the other platform, especially if there will be cross-platform play.

But for the single-player, story-driven marquee games? No I don't see those going to PC Day 1 or with porting windows any less than a year or two...and that's for the ones that actually get ported. Though with Spiderman now getting a PC port, that opens up one such IP for PC porting I didn't think was going to ever get a PC port.

It won't be the first. Sony has been from time to time a 3rd party indie or a AA game at launch in PS Plus or PS Now for many years. I remember the recent Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, or in the past Fall Guys or Rocket League.

Some of us are hoping that if there is any role for the new PS+ service in terms of enabling some type of new content, it will hopefully be through providing enough of a revenue bedrock to support development and inclusion of some 1P indie/AA-style sequels or reboots to smaller classic IP like Parappa, Tomba!, Echochrome, Puppeteer, etc. IP that can have new entries at significantly lower prices than the big AAA Spidermans or God of Wars, and may not necessarily set sales charts on fire, but can add enough value to PS+ Extra & Premium/Deluxe to grow revenue from those tiers which in turn can hopefully encourage even more new features for the service (as well as providing money to fund more 1P AA & AAA software development).

Those are the kind of games they can bring to the service Day 1 or even maybe exclusively for a month or whatever, and also provide digital purchases for. Point being, that allows them to curate some unique content for the service and also provide that content for regular purchase via digital storefront, and taps into brand nostalgia at the same time, on budgets that are much lower than the typical AAA let alone some of Sony's biggest AAA games. What they've done with stuff like VF5: Ultimate Showdown is a great way to get those 3P titles in the mix every now and then, I'm just saying that it would be neat if some smaller 1P games could join that every now and then, too.

These aren't even games that would need to be internally developed per-se, they could partner in co-development with 3P teams for almost any of these smaller, more niche vaulted IP. It wouldn't need to be limited to just Sony's IP, either; there are some very nostalgic 3P vaulted IP strongly tied to the PlayStation brand that may not work as bigger-budgeted high-end AA or certainly AAA games, but could work as more cost-effective AA or high-tier indie titles, that could find their audience through both PS Store and PS+ Extra & Premium/Deluxe. Capcom would probably never be able to justify a AAA Megaman Legends, for example, but fans would love a AA remake or sequel. Same for games like Einhander, Ganbare Goemon or Beatmania.

That's what this is really about, TBH.

We don't know the release date of PC, so we don't know if the different is going to be short or not. I assume it will be similar to the other remaster they announced both for PC and PS5 at the same time: the Uncharted Collection, which was released in January for PS and for Summer (I think we still don't have official release date), around half a year later.

As of now they seem to have two main distances:
-For remasters/remakes, at least around half a year after the PS5 version of the remaster/remake, and many years after its original release
-For non-remaster/remasters, at least around two years after its original release

A distance that I think it's fine.

I think this is where the Nvidia leaks is messing up a lot of expectations, mine included. Because a lot of things on the 3P side have been verified and lining up timeline-wise, but only some of the Sony stuff has come true and with time deltas notably larger than what that leak suggested.
As I remember the Nvidia listed from Sony, and with 2022 releases:
God of War
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Edition (PC version was already anounced by Sony but the Nvidia list had the date wrong, listed it to be released just after the PS5 version)
Ghost of Tsushima
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Gran Turismo 7
HELLDIVERS 2
Horizon Forbidden West
Returnal
Demon Souls
Ratchet and Clank (no specified game)
Déraciné

The list didn't mention Spider-Man, Spider-Man Miles Morales or TLOUR (won't be released in 2022 but at least it's confirmed to be under development for PC). So only got God of War right, and I can't find the date mentioned in the list but pretty likely was wrong. Sounds like a bunch of guesses and got wright more or less one.

Same goes with the over a dozen MS games that according to the list were going to be released in 2022. That one included Scalebound and games that are in preproduction.

Regarding Capcom, the Nvidia list mixed some games copy pasted from a legit Capcom roadmap document leak like SF6 or RE4R with fantasy stuff like PC ports of a Monster Hunter PSP game (with typos in its name too). But guess what, the list failed to mention the Capcom games that were included in the leaked document but were using codenames: "shield" (Exoprimal), "indies 2" (Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium), "indies 2 transplant" (Capcom Fighting Collection). The leaked document had a "Bio Hazard Outrage" (mistranslated by the document leaker as Resident Evil Outbreak) which was copypasted by the Nvidia list guy as Resident Evil Outbreak, but now I think it was a codename for RE:Verse or Resident Evil Village Gold.

That would be cool. As of now Sony has:
-Big ass 1st party AAA
-Big ass 3rd party AAA exclusives (in many cases are timed console exclusives)
-Not that big sized (in terms of cost) AAA games like Morales, Uncharted unmaled, Death Stranding
-PSVR games
-PC ports
-Upcoming mobile games
-Even smaller AAA/AA games like Dreams, Sackboy, Astro
-Indies (self published, Sony doesn't publish or own the IP, in most cases timed console exclusives) funded by Sony

Their game subs already generate Sony a ton of money, and I think with the new PS+ they will generate way more money than until now. So won't need an extra push. If they want an extra push, they'll buy a big publisher/developer with big IPs as MS did for GP. People won't buy PS+ for a small Sony game, but I'd do it.

I'd like to give a tiny team inside Naughty Dog/Insomniac/Guerrilla/Firesprite/Sucker Punch/Bend/Team Asobi a few months to make a tiny game, if they wnat using or mixing old, unused Sony IPs like Parappa, Loco Roco, Echocrome, Ico, Wipeout, etc. And also parter with very talented indie teams to use these old, unused IPs as happened with Sonic Mania, Wonder Boy, Streets of Rage 4, TMNT Schreier's Revenge, River City Girls or Windjammers 2.

Is Legend of Dragoon on the service ?
No, Legend of Dragoon and Knack 2 aren't there.

Everyone keeps bringing up PSNow was before Game Pass, that's irrelevant. Nobody gave a shit about PSNow. It was extremely unsuccessful. Even though it was first it had only 10% the number of subscribers of Game Pass.

For years now we've had Game Pass threads downplayed, trolled and derailed. We've had to hear how Sony fans have no interest and would never subscribe to a sub like Game Pass and how they would rather own their games than rent them. Now that Sony has revamped it's subs to be somewhat more like Game Pass, all of a sudden subs and renting games is great.

P.S. I'm not referring to you in the above, I know you aren't a troll and haven't been downplaying Game Pass which is why I chose to respond to you rather than any of the trolls. I'm not going to further derail or engage in back and forth with any of the trolls. I'm just giving YOU my opinion and how I view it.
PSnow was a streaming service not a GP service. PS Plus started giving rented games first. It was later that PSnow got the ability to download games etc. So Sony was first for both.
You are doing the same. It's funny how you accuse Sony users but are in these threads doing the same?
It's funny and sad how people try to take the moral highground yet engage in the same behaviour themselves.

How do you know it was unsuccessful or not? Did they ever mentioned a goal subscriber size that wasn't achieved? Did ever MS show Game Pass Ultimate monhtly active subs? You mention 10% of GP subs, when GPU did achieve 30M MAU?

If it was that successful, why it's alive almost a decade after its release and why they kept supporting it building their original long term vision, improving its tech and kept adding more games, countries or platforms?

Monthly refresh, middle of the month. Probably will start in July.

What I'm a bit unclear on: Will they also REMOVE games every month? Maybe not at first, but after it's been going for a while? The library isn't just gonna keep growing indefinitely right?

I hope they give us warning well in advance so you can make sure to finish games before they're gone.

Actually I'm surprised how well streaming works. In Poland wr never had ps now and streaming launched just now, tried Ratchet (crack in time) and God of war ascension and both titles play quite well, input delay was surprisingly low. Image quality sucked a bit but those games were 720p.

I have 1Gb/s connection (console is connected with wire) so maybe that's it....
I actually played a few ps3 games yesterday and it seemed....okay? I'll have to try more later.I went to take a shower and tokyo jungle closed and I'm not doing that tutorial all over lmao

i don’t think it matters either way… but ps+ offers more value than GP and it’s barely a month old so…
