Microsoft Edge Update Looks to Make It the "Best Browser for Gamers"

While people probably already have their go-to picks for browsers, Microsoft just recently updated Edge with some new gaming features in hopes of making it "the best browser for gamers" with those features perhaps proving handy even for people who don't primarily play on the Xbox platform.

The start of the Edge update (make sure yours us up to version 103 first) is the newly renovated homepage. This fresh starting point includes a "Gaming" tab along the navigation bar which houses different categories of interest. By selecting that, you'll see gaming news right up front, but if you sign in with your Xbox account, things become a bit more personalized.

"And if you sign in with your Xbox account, you will get Xbox content such as games you might like and easy access to the Xbox Cloud Gaming library — including recently played games and related content," Microsoft said about the new update. "If you have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, you can even launch and start playing games with Xbox Cloud Gaming right in the browser."

For those of you who've been using Xbox Cloud Gaming to play your Xbox games on a PC, you may want to try out Edge to do so if you've been using another browser lately. That's because the browser now also boasts a Clarity Boost feature to make your games hopefully look a bit better.

"Clarity Boost is a spatial upscaling enhancement that makes streaming games look clearer and sharper while playing in Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and 11," Microsoft continued. It uses a set of client-side scaling improvements to improve the visual quality of the video stream. Clarity Boost allows you to enjoy the most advanced games on the market and experience amazing graphics right from Microsoft Edge whether you are on your high-end PC gaming rig or your tablet."

Also included in this update is a new setting under the System and Performance tab within Efficiency mode which looks to improve gaming performance without having to make players toggle this setting on and off over and over again. For those who want a more casual gaming experience, the "Games" menu now provides quick access to free games like Microsoft Solitaire and more.

Firefox is better anyway

Chrome is the only desktop browser I need.
Chrome has become like windows.
Why would you need two of the same browsers in your PC?
it's better Chrome... like almost any chromium browser that isn't chrome 🤣
The android chrome is one of the few android browsers that can't have an adblocker.
Firefox is usually slower than chromium based browsers
Firefox hogs less RAM. Apart from Chrome and Edge, it's probably the only major browser that can sync your progress between mobile and desktop (a feature I need) but does not track your data or is provided by a company that has ads as an important source of revenue(Chrome and to a lesser extent Edge).

I must need to update it, I don't see most avatars, can't vote on polls, or quote people right now with Edge. It's my primary browser for everything but GAF currently. Works fine on my work PC, just having those issues at home.

I switch back and forth between Safari/Chrome. On the phone, I just use Safari.
I don't need Microsoft's new version of Internet Explorer. ;)

EDIT
If it's not clear, I am joking. I had already been using Chrome on Windows so never made the switch to Edge. And as far as I know, I thought Edge wasn't designed to be like "IE", where it is built into the OS (some others are stating otherwise) - I know they definitely try to push it as the default and pre-install it; but it's not integrated into the OS. If I am wrong, then MS never learns lol.

Is Opera a good browser? I used it once at a job I had and I liked the interface a lot. I have a Mac and used both Safari and Opera. Chrome slows my Mac.

IE has been retired. Edge is now default.

So why is having a in-built default browser in Windows Microsoft's fault? We don't blame Apple and Google for bundling Safari or Chrome into iOS/Android? Why should Windows not come with a default browser?

I use Opera like a weirdo
Try Vivaldi. Its made by the OG Opera devs and based on Chromium after Opera was bought by another corporation

Yes, Opera should be a no go for anyone now.

I used Vivaldi until recently. Features like two layer tabs are great. But their entire UI is written using web technologies that makes it slower and heavier to run (on top of the bloat that is Chromium). It's more of an issue on less powerful machines, or ones running on battery, but it is an issue.

So I'm back to Firefox and generally liking it. Vivaldi on Android is pretty banging though.

Really, I just want old Opera back.

I have been using Firefox since 2.x and has been my primary since than on both PC and Android. Edge is my secondary occasionally for some stuffs that work better on Chromium based browsers.

Edge is quite good but it's still using Chromium which sucks especially with MV3 coming next year. I use Edge as my secondary browser but if I can't use adblockers on it anymore then fuck that shit. Same goes for any other Chromium based browser like Opera/Brave. Chrome is the most used browser for a reason so it works for a lot of people but Google has too much control over the internet. I don't want to go back to the days of having a fuck load of ads/pop ups appearing again. Look at how aggressive Google is with ads on YT these days and now imagine how Chrome will look in 1-2 years time.

Firefox is the best browser.

Do we know what happens when MV3 is implemented? I mean do ad blockers become useless?

Also, do all chrome based browsers have to comply?

Google, sorry, Alphabet, can't force browser developers to comply.

But they can make it so that not complying and having a working browser is a lot of work, if not outright broken. Whether we'd see some browser developers expend the resources to move over to Gecko... I don't know. But the Chromium browser developers have made their bed.

Edge is the best browser for me for over a year now or so. Chrome eats a lot of memory. On iMac I typically use Safari but it doesn't block well.

On Tablet I love Samsung Browser, it can use adblock and does it decently.

Been on edge for a while. Never thought I'd try it. Seems faster than chrome to me now. I think I prefer it, it deffo does the job.

The API to block webRequest is replaced by a declareNetReuest API which is less effective. Firefox will implement MV3 but keep the API to block webRequest. Edge already has an adblocker built into its mobile browser(its turned off by default) which I hope they consider putting in the desktop version.
I have no ads on youtube or twitch in edge 🤷‍♂️
MV2 extensions will stop working in June 2023.
