Arcadegeddon
Gilly, the owner of a local arcade, is trying to save his business from a faceless mega-corporation, Fun Fun Co. ...and what better way to stick it to the man than with a brand-spanking-new super game. Unfortunately, the corp gets wind of Gilly’s plan and launches a cyberattack, injecting a virus into the game. Now it’s up to you, will you rise up to save both the game and the last remaining local arcade?

This ever-evolving co-op multiplayer shooter allows you and up to 3 friends to explore multiple biomes, compete in mini games, find hidden chests, and battle a crazy cast of enemies and bosses. Arcadegeddon lets you play at your own pace with its mix of PVE and PVP gameplay. Speed into the action or take it slow, it’s up to you. As you get to know the town, you can dive into additional challenges from the local gangs that hangout in Gilly’s Arcade, earning you much more than just street cred. Though, the view from the top of the leaderboards must be pretty darn good...

Where did you get this information? I didn't find it anywhere else? These are just rumors at the moment.
They aren’t rumours, it’s a verified source on Hotukdeals. I’ve posted the last 4 months on here too and they’ve been correct every time.

If you want to check him out he’s posted them accurately without fail a few days before it’s official for well over a year now (I can’t be bothered scrolling further back);

Crash 4 is great, I was worried the monthly games will take a hit in quality with the higher tiers now.

PS5 version I hope...

Think the ps5 version is just the ps4 version patched for higher frame rate/resolution, no native ps5 version so it will be.

Glad I held off buying it, never played it before.

Wow, Crash 4 is a great addition, I’ve been planning on buying it since release but it’s been just a little too expensive even when discounted.
Good month.

Pretty funny that the ”first” month of the essential tier is this good because I was so sure it would become worse.

They starting to overlap games between tiers from the get go lol

lol, so do the folks who only subscribe to PS+ Essential not deserve to get any of the games that drop on Extra/Premium? Those games should be locked off from them because they're on the lowest tier?

Anyways, Man of Medan will eventually leave Extra, but now that it's on Essential you can claim it and it's yours forever as long as you have a Plus sub.

So those who subscribed to Extra/Premium don't deserve 3 free games instead of 2?

Those people will also be getting the Extra/Premium game drop in the middle of the month. And as I mentioned they get to keep these overlap games in their library even when they do leave the Extra tier.

EDIT.
And to further add, Sony only promises 2 games with PS+ Essential, just like they always promised 2 games with PS+ before the new service launched. Anything on top of that is an extra above and beyond what they've promised.

There is a native PS5 version of Crash 4 and it’s included this month.

Note the versions tagged on each game’s art.

This is a good point, that I never really considered. It's odd how these subscription services work this way.

What's the source for this? Has it been confirmed somewhere? Links seem to just point to the store page.

The source has been consistently correct about the PS+ games every month for the last several months a few days before the official announcement. It's as good as confirmed based on their track record.

Do Extra and Premium get also other new games or does it not work like that?

In the middle of the month. Based on the release date of Stray which is launching on the service it looks like the way it'll work is that the PS+ Essential games will launch on the 1st Tuesday of the month (just like the old PS+ games always did) and the Extra/Premium games will drop on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. That way there should be a new drop of some sort on the service every 2 weeks.

I was hoping that Sony would push out at least two separate updates for PS Plus Extra/Premium each month: one at the beginning of the month (about the same time as PS Plus Essential), and then another one in the middle of the month.

If that's not what Sony is planning to do, then they should seriously consider it. More frequent updates would create buzz and bring much needed attention to the service. This is something that they failed to do with PS Now previously.

Banging I've been waiting for Crash 4 for ages but was unwilling to pay £30 for it. Activision need to add a 60fps mode for the trilogy and cart racing on ps5/series consoles too while they're at it.

PS Now subscribers only got 1 drop a month since PS+ had its own separate drop. Now under this new structure anyone on Extra/Premium is getting 2 drops, one at the start of the month for Essential and one in the middle of the month for Extra/Premium.

I know you likely meant 2 full Extra/Premium drops, but I don't know if that's all that necessary. I mean, it's not like folks would be getting MORE games each month with 2 drops, they'd still be getting the same stuff but just split up between 2 drops instead of 1. Also depending on just how large these drops are there might be something more impactful in having a large list of games just drop instead of carving it up into smaller chunks.

Here they've demonstrated the Essential tier can still get quality titles so if they keep that up then the hype will still be there.

Wow! Another incredible month after June PS Extra Megaton 😲

Crash Trilogy is already on PS+, now Crash 4. It's just missing CTR. Activision always supports PS+ so well. Really the best deal in gaming 👌

Also Stray PS Plus day 1 baybee ! ❤

Why hope for something that’s been explicitly detailed out already.

It's not necessary, but I think spreading out the Extra/Premium releases would have numerous benefits:
  • It would enable them to launch "day one" releases (which we've recently seen for some third-party games) any time of the month, rather than waiting for one specific date.
  • It would sustain people's interest continually throughout the month. A single drop is "one and done" and is quickly forgotten.
  • Games would have less "immediate competition" for attention. People might be more likely to check out all of the games that just got added to the service, rather than the one or two big ones they were interested in.

Microsoft has been using this strategy with Xbox Game Pass for quite some time now. Almost anyone can see on gaming forums like this that there has been much more conversation about Xbox Game Pass than for PS Now/PS Plus, and the frequency of releases surely is one major factor. It's much more exciting for curious users to jump on and see "what's new this week", than to have Sony post a single drop with a month's worth of games and then sweep things under the rug so that it's all forgotten until next month.

My original interpretation from this PlayStation.Blog post was that Sony would perform two updates per month, and that Extra/Premium game catalog (formerly PS Now) would get two separate updates per month on that schedule. After reading post #25 from vivftp vivftp , and then re-reading the PS.Blog post, it seems that it is fact one update for Essential, and then a second update for Extra/Premium. I understand this now, but I still think they should update Extra/Premium two or more times each month, for the reasons described above.

Well they are still able to do day 1 launches on more than 1 date with this new setup as Arcadegeddon is a day 1 release since it's coming out of early access. So that gives them 2 potential dates to play around with for day 1 releases.

Either way, this is a brand new service and strategy for them, even if it is being built off the back of what came before. I'm sure plenty of things are subject to change as things evolve and if they feel something isn't working then they can adjust as needed.
