RDNA 3 GPU Compute Units To Deliver Enhanced Ray Tracing Capabilities & Even Higher Clock Speeds

I don't think it's just "turning on" ray tracing, since AMD often do ok when just using ray traced shadows. In "lightly" ray traced titles like Metro, they can deliver 3070/2080 Ti level performance. The issue issue is that performance tanks as more ray tracing effects are added. Cyberpunk is basically a worst case because it has RT reflections + shadows + GI + diffuse lighting.

the biggest issue seems to be the BVH, open world games run really badly on AMD, see the example of Watch Dogs, which only uses RT reflections...
an open world game has a very dynamic and unforeseeable amount of dynamic objects coming in and out of range...

I think that's what mainly tanks AMD cards. they perform reasonably well with Quake 2 RTX I think, and that game is 100% RT with every possible RT effect used... but it has a very manageable BVH structure I assume due to being relatively tightly confined spaces with not much going on inside them either

If my 750 watt psu can handle it, I may get the 7800xt. Waiting to see how much vram the 4060ti/70 has, and power usage.

My cpu is the 5800x3D so not a power hungry 12900k... Maybe my power supply can cope.
I wouldn't bet on it. 750W is likely not enough to handle the power surges even AMD cards suffer from. 850W or higher is likely needed.

Doom has a DX12 renderer tho, wouldn't that mean it uses DXR? at least in that mode?
Does it?
Every time I launch I get Vulkan, is there one of those funny commands to launch in DX12 mode.

Imagine of one of the new consoles launched in 2023 with this tech.

With all the cross gen stuff would it really be that different?

Damn. I really do not want to get a new psu but we will see... If the processor tdp is 105 watt and the gpu 300 watt it would seem like a 750 watt would work but I guess these cards have insane power spikes?

i think 750w quality psu will still be fine except for the top gpu models. Imho 4080/7800 will be totally fine with that wattage

Transient power spikes can go up to 2.5x the cards rated power consumtion, at least on NVidia. For a quality power supply at 750W, it might handle it. If not, the machine will just reboot. See Gamers Nexus' video about this.

Transient power spikes arent something new.
Its why people have always championed "good" power supplies.
There have been threads about good power supplies since forums have been a thing.
Just reading the 80+ rating doesnt tell you much about whether its a good power supply or not, and if im being honest transient power spikes should probably be towards the bottom of things someone worries about, they are practically impossible to predict and replicate even between two of the same PSU and beyond vastly overspending on a double your needs power supply arent something people should be concerned about.

Got a 6800 xt taichi. What a beast. With a easy OC got a 6900 xt ref perf.

Really looking forward for 7800 xt or 7900 xt next year.

You know what's a b about ray tracing is that even on nvidia 30XX it's kinda not worth it in terms of performance hit. Or at least it's har to justify. Like a year from now, I can spend ~$250 to get a card that does what I need to do without rt. But if I want the same performance with rt I have to spend much, much more.

Ah, the future. When rt isn't new anymore and affordable cards can do it just fine.

This gen has yet to prove itself to me.
I honestly could have waited for a Holiday 2022 or even Holiday 2023 release date for the nextgen consoles as long as they were RDNA3 based.

No, they are not new, but they are getting worse as GN's video clearly demonstrates, meaning requirements for PSUs will increase.

Seems that GPU prices are falling about 10% per month.

Considering we're on verge of recession, high inflation and crypto crash i think new RTX 4xxx/RDNA 2 prices are gonna be same as MSRP, no scalpers

Which PSUs did they get to shutdown or blow up and what was the rating vs the load?

Watch the video?
Do they not post articles anymore?
I just want the data I can skip to the part where they talk about failing PSUs.

Its a long video and im guessing you watched it so you can just spoil it for me.
