DF: Wreckfest: The Excellent Switch Port vs Xbox One/ One X/ PS4/ Pro + PS5 and Xbox Series S/X!

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Wreckfest is an exceptionally good 'destruction derby' style game. It's impressive enough on last-gen consoles - and it's remarkable how close the new Switch version gets to matching that experience. In this video, Oliver Mackenzie not only delivers an in-depth tech review on the Switch rendition, but also checks out the experience on every other console: Xbox One S, PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X - and of course, PS5. It's all here.

seeing the issues Series X and S have, I think their decision to not make a native version and simply make the upgrade a DLC for the last gen version wasn't optimal

It has a native version now, doesn't it?

no, it's a DLC for the last gen version that enables all the new graphical features and gameplay improvements (more cars on track at once)

it's still a back compat title. it quite literally works by downloading the Xbox One version, and installing the DLC file, that's it

That just made the Xbox One version look and play better on Xbox Series S & X. This is a 100% native version for current gen, taking full advantage of the new hardware!
Then they are straight up lying.

They seem to have improved the PS5 version since it launched if it is now locked 60, that shit was tearing before.

they are lying indeed, most likely a PR guy from THQ not knowing what native SX version actually means.

I recently bought the game after playing it through gamepass. I got the game and the next gen DLC. all it is is a DLC pack that enables features. I could simply uninstall that DLC and would have the last gen version again

Thankfully, frame-rates are doubled to 60fps, and performance is great - PS5 in particular was locked to 60fps even in scenes that caused dips on other platforms

Where is the "best played on PS5" in their subtitle or even in the article? Odd as often they do this in others cases.

I'm reading conflicting articles as to wheter the PS4>PS5 upgrade is free or costs ten bucks. Anyone here can tell me if it's another ten Euro for the PS5 update if I buy the "PS4 complete package" that's on sale right now?

It was a "free" game on PS+ (both versions), I checked and it looks like it's £/$10 upgrade for the non-plus version.

Thanks a lot! Hmmmmm not sure if I'm getting it then... I have it on PC, and I didn't really want to spend €30 on double dipping :/
Fun Fact: while another subscription service boosts about having games day 1, Wreckfest was on PS+ even one month before launch of the PS5 version :messenger_winking:

For all I can remember, Wreckfest was a very optmized game on PC, I was shocked to find out that the old gen versions ran at 30 FPS.

I was more interested about the PS5/XSX comparison. The performance difference between the two seem to be pretty significant at same resolution/settings in favor of PS5. Curious to see if it can be improved in a future patch on XSX. As a side note, i think PS5 fares slightly better in racing games, maybe due to fast nature of things, perhaps related to faster polygon generation & discard of its GPU?

there is no native version for Series X, they simply patched in the next gen features into the Xbox One version using a paid upgrade DLC

so basically the Series X is not able to use the full hardware potential in this game.

this basically compares a native PS5 game to an enhanced backwards compatible game on Series X

It's XboxOneGen9Aware so basically BC+ mode on Xbox and not native, thus missing out on over 30%+ performance. Same happened to Skyrim. You can run it off an external SSD as well.

Game doesn't even have the X/S label on it, half assed job really.

So it really isn't "that" scalable. It has a peak height, which is still very low.

Meaning, there is a lot of ceiling sacrifices made to be such a low end scaler.

The peak height on PS5/XSX is a massive difference compared to the switch. So regardless of what you think it looks like, it is very scalable.

Yeah, i don't think they are so blatantly lying risking their credibility in the process. The statement is very clear and precise.

Great game. Glad that the switch port is solid. I played the hell out of it when it was on psnow. Might pick it up on the steam sale to play on my Deck.

Do you have the access to the native code of the game to know it? Why they should lie?
In Xbox you can check a game package parameters. There is evidence that the game is running via BC+ as it states that the package is compiled for XDK Durango and is XboxGen9Aware - on top of that it can run from an external drive.

That being said, please don’t fuck up this thread as you tried to do in RE2 remake one with your petty conjectures about Freesync and VRR.

if the game file info says XboxOneGen9Aware it is a back compat game, anyone who has the game can look at this and see it.

the developers have NO WAY to influence that data. it's the data the console uses to determine how to run the game.

if this data was somehow wrong the console would literally crash as soon as the game tries to start, as the console would switch the GPU and CPU into back compat mode, and if the game isn't made for that it could not run
