Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
New sale with 180+ games, no true achievements curated page but you can see all content here:

Interesting to note that Darksiders for 360 is on sale for $4.99. It has a remaster, but the 360 version runs at 4K/60 FPS with FPS boost on Series X BC. The original out-performs and makes the remaster being sold at $20 completely redundant lol.

edit: There are a lot of 360 games on this sale and some like SH Homecoming on sale for the first time in years, so worth a look IMO.

Psikyo shmups are (finally!) starting to show up in the Xbox store.
Strikers 1945 and Sol Divide to start.

Looks like they went for individual releases and not the all in one package switch got a long time ago. Xbox tax?
Ill support this stuff because Xbox needs more shumps - I hope this leads to more.
Everything Psikyo is on the way from Strikers to Gunbird 2! My Sega Saturn copies can finally rest.

What are your opinions on far cry 5? Do you guys like it?
I love the act with the one sister
The Opium Trip

The cult and scary religious songs are so great.

I have rifle by my side in a lot of Playlists.

Help me Faith is also crazy good.

I put on the FC5 choir Playlist in the car one day, and my gf who grew up on that music was liking it, until she heard it getting more and more nefarious.

I just laughed.

Is a fun game. You can create nice chaos with big explosions etc.
But after so mane far cry is impossible not to feel the fatigue on the game.

But I still like far cry 4. Always liked the setting and the atmosphere.

Hello Xbox GAF

I recently got an Xbox Series X + GamePass for the next 3 years. As someone who hasn't played Xbox since the 360 era, I am of course very pleased with having a new catalogue of games to play, and the Xbox Series X hardware is solid.

I've played the following games so far:

- Halo Infinite: Brilliant controls/mechanics/AI/gameplay. A little let down by the repetitive SP, story, and world design. But still a solid playthrough. MP is also fantastic to play.
- Ori 1 / 2 - Standout titles, the best metroidvania games I think I've ever played. I love the setting/art design/ mechanics / sound - pure platforming perfection.
- Forza Horizon: It looks nice, but I just can't get into the vibe of this game that much and the controls seem a little too basic

What other games should I play? I'm thinking of rolling through the Gears campaigns but I was never a huge fan of the series so I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick with it. Psychonaughts 2, Tunic, Guardians of the Galaxy, are in my library too but haven't touched them yet. I was a big Banjo fan back in the day and never played Banjo Tooie, so considering that but I worry it'll be too dated.

Get yourself a TV that can do 120hz 4K with VRR and an Atmos receiver and then you’ll truly understand what Next Gen means.

What other platforms do you have if any? Would be a little easier knowing before I try recommend you some titles. Although the 3 you have in your library, can't go wrong there for starters.

Tend to get third party stuff I want on ps5 this far

There may be a ton of third party games I’ve neglected that are on GamePass though

Here's a few i've played recently, can't really go wrong with gamepass. Enjoy your purchase!

  • Sniper Elite 5
  • State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition
  • Doom Eternal
  • The Evil Within
  • The Evil Within 2
  • The Ascent
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
Halo Wars 2 was decent, if you liked the first one, also GP.

Honestly, you'll get a lot of recommendations for good modern games. But I'll take the other way and suggest you also check out some of the BC catalog, 360 games and such. Many of them have had either FPS, or resolution, or both enhanced and it's a friggin blast to go play them.

There's a bunch on game pass, but if you want, there's an incredible sale going on right now which has chock full of great 360 era BC games on sale for like $5 a pop.

Congrats! Even though you’re not into Gears, give Hivebusters in Gears 5 a try, you could try Gears Tactics too if you want something different, both are great.
And do not miss The Ascent. Don’t trust any harsh reviews. If you like action, old-school twin stick shooting, some Diablo-like gameplay, then it’s absolutely fantastic. 👌

Yeah, I watched the video and saying things are looking better in the future and there is now more time to play BC games just annoys me. Things hasn’t been this dead since I don’t know when.
And tbh, MS is dropping an important ball here. When MS don’t have any day 1 releases on Gamepass, what separates Gamepass from PS+?

If we are only looking at first party games, nothing but i generally think the third party day one games on xbox are bigger. Stray was a good get but i think there was indies on Xbox GP just as good.

I think they do need to get 1/2 third party game pass releases in Q4 as a shareholder.

As a consumer especially one into weird and smaller games, I am pretty set honestly. Just hoping Somerville comes out this year.

I have games to play, no doubt, but I feel like the snowball they had rolling last year (with some great 1st party releases and high player numbers) has smashed this year and is melting in the sun right now.
And it’s silent. No exciting news. No cool rumors. No hype, except Starfield.

Meanwhile, sorry to bring up Sony again, on PS5 we’ve already had a couple big 1st party releases and there is a couple more to come , with Ragnarök being a juggernaught release, and PS+ is getting some love too.

Look at the first page in gaming discussions. Is there a Xbox thread? Wasn’t one when I wrote this.

The momentum has definitely slowed down relative to Q4 last year if you are after the bigger AAA first party games. Its a quiet period but on the 19th, we are getting FH5 DLC and I hope they pick up something like Skull and Bones in Q4, I know people dislike the art style or the genre but will get some As Dusk Fall reviews as well in next week. Also out on the 19th.

It will be interesting to see what the NPD numbers say this week and the earning calls to see if its has had a material impact on sales/revenue.

Forgot all about FH5 Hot Wheels, that looked amazing! MS needs to push out some videos, it’s out in a week and there is no talk. I want to see the track building.

Buying and integrating so many studios is hard. If an incredibly talented team like Sony Santa Monica takes 5 years to make a sequel of a game they know, with a team that worked in the past together, etc. like God Of War we all should be aware that in example, developing ambitious new games like Fable IV or Perfect Dark by new teams will just take time. Im pretty confident that 2022 will be the last year without recurrent big releases.

We’ve heard that before, I think the output from 23 studios is far too low.

Since the XSX|S launch in 2020 MS 1st party studios has released:
Gears 5 Hivebusters - The Coalition
Bleeding Edge - Ninja Theory
Psychonauts 2 - Double Fine
Forza Horizon 5 - Playground Games
Halo Infinite - 343 Industries

Then from 3rd party collaborations we’ve got:
MS Flight Sim - Asobo
Gears Tactics - Splash Damage

And MS 1st party on PS/PC;
Deathloop - Arkane
GhostWire Tokyo - Tango Gameworks

Is this enough? I don’t think so.

The Xbox's system-level VRR helps 30fps games. I was playing Dragon's Dogma on PS5 and just couldn't take the 30fps. Loaded it up on XSX and the VRR does help the 30fps be more manageable.

Isn't that more due to SX forcing Vsync on XBO (and all older gen) games ?

Strikers 1945 II and III released on xbox store.
I only got III so far but Im happy to say im not noticing any input lag.
There was input lag in ACA Neo Geo Strikers 1945 Plus released a few years back on xbox - and these new versions seem to be lag free.

II is the better game but I own like 3 versions of it already. Ill get them all eventually.

Welcome James!

Definitely play the Gears campaigns. If the story isn’t your vibe, try to skip cutscenes if they allow it. I thoroughly enjoy the gameplay. I believe you can coop them all too if you have a buddy. You can give Horde and MP a go on Gears 5. One reco, the Hivebusters DLC is short, sweet and beautiful. Nice and linear and a couple hours long. You may just want to play that for a quick fun romp.

TMNT is a fun 2 to 3 hour game. Look at Xbox’s LFG feature if you want to pair up with people.

Hades is my fave game on Game Pass. Not sure if you’ve played that elsewhere.

Definitely enjoy GotG, highly recommend. The characters are more fun than in the movies. There is a reason the writer won the games award.

Fallout 4 either had FPS boost or a mod that allows 60fps. I played that an liked it.

Mass Effect LE is wonderful to play through if you have yet to play the series or it’s been sometime. XSX has 4K 60 mode.

Tunic you may love or hate depending on whether you like to figure things out or prefer handholding. There are assists If you find the combat annoying. I’ll admit it’s a gem even though I gave up 2/3rds through it.

Seems like an Ultimate Game Sale has started up in the last day or so.

Moder Warfare is 67% off, I'm tempted as hell. Is the community still active? Is there something I should know/be aware off? From all the MP footage I saw it looks very grounded, simple run&gun gameplay, kind of like CoD4. Also most of the maps are reskinned CoD4/BO/MW2 maps which is awesome. But then again, when the acquisition goes through all CoDs will land on GP, so I don't know :/ What to do what to do?!?

It seems like that’s an all-time low for MW 2019. Population has to be decent enough. I always feel such a newb when I join an established MP game late and everyone has played it for years. I’m a bit hesitant as you knowing they should hit GP asap when the acquisition closes.

2020. Not even 2 years. By contrast, a well established team that made god of war needed 5 years to make a -probably- very similar in scope sequel.
We gamer are just impatient.

4 years and you don’t know if it’s similar, I think there are 8 realms, that wasn’t the case in the first one.

But the point is that we’ve been here before and the games we get this year aren’t big enough and those we think will come in 2023 might also get delayed for all we know.

Look at this thread in early 2021 after the dead launch.

Has anyone listed what all the 23 studios are likely doing and when they had their previous release? Would be interesting to kinda plot out the likely future.

Forge Gameplay leak

I'm pretty much sure it's gonna be dead just like some of the playlists already are.

Counting on the community to fix your game rather than doing your own work just never works. LBP, Modnation Racers, Dreams etc. those ganes also lacked content hoping the community will carry itself, and that didn't work and never will, because most average Joe's who are still playing the game won't bother and waste time browsing what's going on in Forge, they'll continue to just jump into the weekly highlighted mode or bot bootcamp. It's just too little too late. Maybe on PC the game will regain some traction but that's about it IMO.

We are talking the same development team, the same tools, the same story, same characters, same engine, same direction. And one of the greates dev teams in the last 20 years. And its taking 5 years for them.
Imagine now a new team, new management, having to create characters, stories, define an engine, do trial and error of concepts, learn new technologies, etc. Of course they wont do it in 2, or 4 years for the case. Iwill probably take 5 as a bare minimum, though a more realistic estimation is something betwen 5 to 7 years probably.

What team are you thinking about?
All MS 1st party teams except The Initiative and Playground’s Fable team are old and proven teams and while I’m sure we’ll see new stuff nobody expect them to just drop the old popular IPs they know very well how to interate on.
For example; Gears, Doom, The Outer Worlds, Forza, Wolfenstein, Wastelands, Hellblade, State of Decay, etc.
Some are already known to come.

The teams most mysterious are Compulsion and Double Fine. Is We Happy Few 2 and Psychonauts 3 happening? I’m guessing no, I think they’re doing all new IPs now.
Rare is a mystery too, I think they’re doing more than Sea of Thieves expansions and Everwild.
