I have two tiny annoyances about the PS5 UI...

1. Some games don't have menu music.
When you have system music on, there are some games that when you select them, music from the game will begin to play (You can check with Astro's Playroom since everyone has it). However, not all games have it and the system music continue playing.

Sony should require developers to have all the UI requirements. I know Sony loves to let everything to developers' decision, but it's about presentation. Sony should want their PS5 to have the same consistent UI elements and take advantage of all UI design.

Another thing about this is that in the PS3, you were able to turn on system music and game menu music separately. So you could have system music off but game Manu music on (or viceversa). Since the PS4, you either have both on, or both off. I used to have game music menu on on PS3 and system music off. That's because some game menu music is really cool, but I didn't like the music on all the time.

2. Trophies game art.
There's no consistency in the art. With PS4, it seemed like there was a small agreement that it should be a rectangle with the logo of the game. However, everyone does whatever they want. The worst ones are the ones that don't put a logo in it. Others that suck is the logo without a background.

With the PS5, the trophy game art is square. So far, the few games that I have have very consistent art, but they are still many that don't have logos. So far I haven't seen one with just logo without background, and unless artwork that has nothing to do with anything.
Great art: Astro's Playroom, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Final Fantasy VII: Remake.
Logo only but still have background: Control, Horizon Forbidden West: These are good, since the name of the game is what matter
Great art but need to have the logo: Genshin Impact, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, A Plague Tale: Innocence

Bonus annoyance regarding trophies: The tiny card that appears when you select a trophy to see details. Why? They already have an amazing pop up when selecting a trophy in compare trophies. Why can't they just apply it and get rid of that card.

Do you have some annoyances or pet peeves about PS5 UI (or Xbox or Switch UI)?

2 annoyances for me about the PS5 UI.

1. Why aren't there any custom themes available to use for the console?
I don't think there can be any themes this time since every app utilizes the entire screen. (Which is the screen where the music plays).

2. There needs to be folder functionality ASAP.
Never used folders on PS4. Were you able to put a game in two folders? I think the Switch solution is good and could be improved on that for PS5

I'd like the option to not play the game's music on the UI, and only have the system music playing.

I'm not a fan of the new overlay that the PS5 adds to trophy screenshots. It's way too intrusive, and should've just been been some meta information at the bottom of the screen.

The system music is absolutely fantastic. I just have it on in the background (YouTube 1 hour video) as a chillout now and again. My only gripe is not having quick access to the trophy list. I think trophies should be a shortcut on the quick menu bar, so two button presses away at most.

If these were my issues, I'd consider myself lucky and move on. My biggest issue is the Lan cable constantly disconnecting which I first thought was a hardware issue, but a ton of people have it occasionally happen for no reason and then go away. Seems like a bug.

I agree. It’s very weird that it’s not there. It should have been the very first icon they thought about when designing the UI.

This is the first time that I wish they did a complete redesign like how Microsoft did with 360 (and One I think?). I know people loved the blades on 360, but the point is the overhaul, not being better or worse. Although hopefully of Sony changed it it’s for the better, of course.

I agree with those points and would like to see some PSN store improvement. The PS4 section defaults to best sellers instead of new releases and its kind of a pain when browsing to determine if a release is only PS4/PS5 or both. Since I'm don't want to waste money I tend to bounce around between the two but doing so takes a while loading between menus. Also no dedicated game add-on/dlc release menus means on PS I tend to miss stuff regularly and it sucks. I have too many games to just browse every single one individually.

I really miss some PS4 features too like seeing what my friends have been up to. Mix that with the menus and I feel so disconnected and alone lol. Not trying to start anything, but on my other system I can always see what they're up to in only a single click or two away and its easy to join in with them or chat. I also really miss basic stuff like being able to give stuff I own ratings, and see the aggregate in the store. I kind of get why they'd step away from that but I don't like it. I like reading user reviews to get a feel for a title and read about bugs and stuff. I'm miffed that Nintendo also stopped using that on Switch after the Wii U. I also want folders because going through my stuff is annoying when I want to find like items.

My issue is that most developers suck when It comes to activity cards.

It was made that you can go fast Back in the game and skip all the Logos and Shit. But for some reason Ubicrap thinks It's the best you go through all the shitty Logos and land at the main Menu.

XMB in the PS3 and PS4 UI are miles ahead of PS5 UI in User Experience. This is my only gripe with the PS5 on the daily basis. I hope they have a redesign in the works tbh.
Agreed. PS5 UI should be a case study in how not to make a UI.

Actually I'm pretty happy with the PS5s UI overall. In my eyes it is miles ahead of the XBox UI...

I just wish you could check for Updates on all installed games and have the download/upload savegame option from within the games library...
I did a reinstall after I installed a ssd and now I have to start the PS4 game I want to play, close it so it is on the main menu. From there the option is available to download my savegame for this specific game...it's a little bit anoying...

The tap, rather than tap and hold to get to power functions feels unnatural to me on the PS5 v PS4.

They’ve introduced unnecessary complexity to try and surface things that aren’t really useful. Feels like a step in the (wrong) direction of Xbox IMO.

My pet peev is with Xbox achievements. Some games provide excellent achievement art that can be used as a background on the dash. Resident evil 2 for example. But then a lot of third parties just use the tiny images from playstation trophies. Utter shite and looks like 360 era gamer pics.

I don't really have a problem with the ps5 ui outside of there not being a power option on the home screen, next to the profile and settings. It would be the same amount out of button presses as the quick menu, but a little more intuitive.

1. I don't use meny music (who uses music and annoying sounds anyway?)
2. I don't care for trophies and have it turned off

Problem solved
lol nice one! since youre so good at solving problems... can you come over to my house and tell my wife to shut the hell up? i say it to her all the time but it doesn't work, maybe if two people tell her, she will finally stfu

Menu music is the most annoying thing about it. It's like shitty netflix auto-play. I want it to stay fucking silent until I hit a button.

Both aren’t ideal for me. The store is my biggest gripe with PlayStation. It’s a much bigger issue than the UI. But, that’s a different discussion.

Best dashboard in gaming, brilliant design. They’ll get around to a web browser nobody will use.

The issue there is lack of mandates, if Sony want's a superfluous feature that only they have to be utilized properly then they'd have to mandate it to all developers.

I prefer the Search feature of the Library on PS4. For whatever reason they want you to toggle the shoulder buttons or force you back to the store in order to search for the game you may or may not own. I also wish they’d have kept the side categories for the store. Everything is in this preview/category mode and what you’d expect is some dedicated tab for New Releases/Coming Soon. The Announced selection is ridiculous. Following a game doesn’t do anything for me. It must be for the person who can’t be bothered to hold a thought of a game becoming available on a particular date/time.

Getting into the library, shuffling the menu with R1, scrolling through a list, and I can’t find what I own. I have to go to the store, select Search, type out the game, go to its page, select download. That’s not a huge deal. It just ads an extra unneeded step if you ask me
