Why don't people who hate 30fps get a PC already

It's a Lenovo laptop... is lenovo good now or what?
Last I remember Lenove was trash brand but I kinda dislike laptops in general
I have no earlier experience with Lenovo, but the Legion Pro 5 feels very solid. Good quality build, not very noisy. Good cooling. Feels very good.

What about Acer? Always thought those were bottom of the barrel.
We had few acers and always solid.
The one my wife uses now is like... swift 5 or something. Runs fast enough for internet and netflix. It's super light and well built.
in fact we bought it because it was so light.
The speakers suck ass so much it hurts. And the fan kicks in nuclear doing nothing.
But probably not much better than lenovo. Maybe on par

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

I had both an Acer and a Lenovo years ago and I'd put the Lenovo one just slightly above the Acer one.

Not the cream of the crop any of them, but serviceable for sure. They weren't expensive "gamer" models tho, just basic laptops for college.

Random 10 year old building a PC. Watch his ~7 year old sister at the end name all the components.

I think you either underestimate kids, or maybe arent around kids that are into PCs, or maybe are around kids but they aren't the brightest.

At 12 I was able to download Sega Genesis games from BBSes, load them onto a floppy, and play it on my Sega Genesis with a super magic drive.

The keyword here is "average". Your average 10 year old is doing NONE of this stuff.

How would you compare these specs:

Acer Predator Orion 5000:
  • Intel® Core™ i7-12700
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
  • 32 GB DDR5 RAM, 2 TB SSD
HP Omen 45L
  • Intel® Core™ i9-12900K
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
  • 32 GB DDR4 RAM, 2 TB SSD
I guess the question is what makes for best performance: DDR5 over DDR4, or i9 over i7? From what I understand the i7 is not far behind from the i9, and DDR5 would be more futureproof?
And could you easily upgrade the Acer with a 13th gen i9 CPU and for example a 3090 GPU later without needing to do any other changes?

Thanks in advance!

Currently there isn't much of a difference between 4 and 5 besides cost in gaming. Productivity seems to like 5 though. Problem with 5 is it isn't fast enough to overcome its inherent latency over 4 yet. Pre-built PCs usually have horrible memory stuck at stock speeds.

12900k is faster in productivity and all core workloads, which doesn't matter for gaming.

Cooling on either of those cases will be terrible. Don't buy a pre-built. Building a computer isn't difficult. If you're still intimidated go to Microcenter and they'll build it for you with much better components.

Dream-Knife Dream-Knife thanks!
The Omen have a "cryo chamber" on top, which is supposed to be very good for cooling though. I haven't seen thst kind of thing on any other PC. Seems like a cool idea!

LOL! Nah playa. I work in IT as a Desktop Support Specialist. It's what I do. I'm smart enough to know that most kids aren't out here building $1,500 PCs though. The ones that can have really good disposable income and end up in fields like mine in 12 years. But when I was 10 I wasn't the average kid and neither are those in this thread.

Oh, a fellow IT bro.🫂

I was a bit dummy as a kid and still managed to do things like swapping one GPU for another or cleaning the CPU fans. I could see some smarter kid being able to build his own PC, specially nowadays.

But yeah, probably not the average one. The average person is dumb when it comes to those things.

But even then, I still believe that other poster when he said his niece was able to build a PC.

PD: thanks for taking my previous post as a joke, no harm was intended. :)

honestly you could get a DDR4 along a i7-12700 and still be fine. DDR5 will give increased fps at really high frequencies (like getting you extra 15-20 fps if you're already running at over 200 fps) based on benchmarks.

The i9 won't give you much extra performance over the i7 as the other user already said, since its meant more for productivity loads. However, its important to mention there are specific games on pc that benefit from stronger CPUs, games where technically the more CPU power you have the better, games like Teardown or Beamng. How much they benefit i can't say since its hard to find benchmarks comparing them in these specific games.

You guys want to see firsthand why some people dont just "get a PC" because you have to deal with garbage like this. I've searched online and nothing has fixed this crap.

I just bought a new laptop and this is the message I am getting using Gamepass.

You don't deal with this shit on consoles. No fucking reason I shouldn't be able to just start the fucking game.

the problem is obvious, you're using win11
not to come off as a douchebag but Win11 even in its most recent state still breaks compatibility with a lot of games and apps
sucks but this is why i'm still on 10

30 FPS is awful. Which is why I have a PC equipped with a 3090. The only time I’m buying console games is day 1 releases of Sony first party. I’ll usually double dip if they port it over a game over to the PC.

I agree, but all you have to do is watch a few PC building videos to understand it. It's no different than the concept of round peg, round hole.
Building the PC isn't the hard part. Its getting up and running, getting everything installed. Troubleshooting (like I am fucking dealing with) is where the fun goes away.

If its a choice of dealing with that occasionally and playing Doom Eternal max settings at native 4K 120fps locked or playing on consoles I'll take the former.

This is a licensing issue pertaining to gamepass or probably windows store games in general, DRM essentially (one of the reasons to hate windows store).

You said you have a desktop where this doesn't happen so i assume you're logged onto your MS store account there and bought the game there. Whats likely happening here is that the store is associating your ownership to your desktop and not letting you play it on the laptop.

Try this:

Both my laptop and desktop are listed in my my MS account. Nothing that doesn't belong is listed. I've removed all my old systems before. I even had a previous laptop with this issue.

There might just be a server outage at Microsoft.

TFW: your first PC had AGP and when you went to upgrade all cards where then using PCI-E.

If you build your own and do your own windows install you won't have those problems.

I'm convinced most of these people talking about driver updates or issues just bought a shitty Dell or HP prebuilt.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but you can't build laptops on your own. The issue is on my laptop. My desktop games which I built doesn't have the issue.

It's funny how a lot of people on here can measure resolutions down to the pixel, but become fucking moron's when it comes to building a PC.

I worked as a support rep for MS in multiple departments. While there I had a lead above me, and as knowledgeable as she was about how the software operates, she knew less than nothing about hardware or building PCs. It was insane to me how she didn't follow shop talk around low level shit.

It was a culture of following troubleshooting tree structures to get things done, get punished for solving problems off the script or even saying "google" while putting out the fires in the OEM OS usually completely wrecked by pre-installed malware agreements.

Now I get this fucking crap. Logging and logging out doesn't do jack shit. Xbox Live has no issues on my desktop PC or my laptop.

I dont know what I am looking for. All links to devices take me to the Microsft Account|Devices tab and it shows my laptop and such there. Nothing else.
The link on the MS store page takes you to main microsoft account page, not the devices one.
On that page lick on devices tab on the top and you should be taken to the devices page. There, you scroll down and close to the bottom it'll show a device managing page specifically for MS store.

Yep. Everything that was supposed to be in there was there. I even saw some very old PCs in there. Unlinked all of them

The old pcs could be the ones causing the issue actually, since this kind of DRM usually sets a limit on how many devices can have access to certain software. Now try logging out and logging in on the MS store on the laptop and see if it lets you play now.

MS games like Gears of War work, but Bethesda games still cannot log in. Works on my desktop. No reason for this crap.

Was gears of war newly installed on the laptop (after all the troubleshooting)? Could try reinstalling Doom Eternal

No reason for Ms store to exist. This is why many people want gamepass on steam.
Whats weird is that Doom Eternal worked last night. It's Bethesda games that have the issue
