I frankly don't like all the platform 'warring' around here

Guts or just being delusional-entitlement. LOL.

I will say that there are some devs that willfully enter the console wars on their own and participate with moxie. But, most of the time the dev + warrior interactions are some of the most hilarious.

I feel for the devs when they are forced to not interact with the community because of threats and harassment, that's a sad state of affairs.

Worst I ever did to a dev was back in system wars on gamespot. I was arguing with a guy that was saying he was a dev, and naturally I didn't believe it, so he sent me a pic of his 360 dev kit but didn't blur the serials or anything. So, of course, I did the only thing you could do, posted the pic to the board and claimed it was mine. He was pissed to say the least. Never knew if it caused him any trouble or not. It wasn't one of my best days.

Honestly I think some good shit talking can be fun as long as itā€™s not too out of hand.

What I think is worse is when people try to claim victimhood. Like their favorite company/platform/genre/franchise/fandom/whatever is being treated so unfairly by the ā€œmainstreamā€. Doubly so when they get all snarky and bitter about it. Classic ā€œecho chamberā€ type attitude.

If youā€™re passionate about something then let it show. Your passion and positivity can be infectious. On the other hand, if all you do is whine then nobody wants what youā€™re selling. Nobody wants to be part of your group.

Despite how crazy all this social media culture is...I still find it amazing, how we can connect with people form all over the world. That's still boggles my mind.

We just need to be aware that 90% is just making and trolling.

It's so strange. I like whatever is best and every generation has been different. This gen, so far, there is a lot more parity, and that's a good thing.

I buy every console. Because I love games, I refuse to miss out.

Console warring is monkey behaviour. No, wait, that's an insult to monkeys

The worst are ones that go into threads on the platform they hate. They spend all their time in PlayStation/Xbox threads a with no other intention but to shit on the platform or game. For ex. Halo threads are full of Sony fanboys that never intended to play the game. I know it goes both ways too. Like why even go into those threads?

These people are getting old and everyone knows who they are if youā€™ve been around at least a year. These people get empathy emojis from me

What console warring means tho?
Some people take their platform of preferences and meet together to hit the other with it and when they form groups it's like a street gangs fights throwing consoles, PCs, controllers, etc. each others... it's weird like why would they even want to damage their devices take way instead of playing games? Can we not just be in peace and enjoy our hobby at home? The ones taking the worst part are the Switch owner because the system clearly isn't as big or heavy as a PS5 or XSX so it doesn't hit as hard, specially when some of them are used to having an enormous PC case (RGB included) falling right into their faces. Shit should be ilegal as are street gangs fights.

More annoying than console warriors are the people who complain about console warriors. Gamers more than anyone try to act like having a preference is the end of the world. Marvel beefs with DC fans. Nike beef with Adidas fans. Shoot in the gym you have people who pick and choose sides on lifing heavy or alot of reps. Its going to happen, you can police it when its toxic but its in our nature to pick a tribe. I have all the systems but do I enjoy a debate and jokingly "console warring' sometimes? Yes. But imma still buy ragnarok and starfield. Have your team, don't barre yourself from good games.
Yeah, agree completely. What's even more jarring is that these same people look down on anyone who talks about the console wars as if they are childs and they the grown ups, but the next minute make a thread on why X game is innovative and better than anything ever created.

As long as its not toxic, its all in good fun. And people who try to act superior about having transcended all this "warring" tend to be the most toxic of them all.

100% on point @Vyne
I wish the focus was on the content more than the platform. This stuff doesnā€™t seem to be as nearly a big an issue with discussing movies or television. @OOGABOOGA PC-shitting thread was particularly trash. Iā€™m surprised that immature drivel gets a pass as a thread topic, let alone a post.

Just to give some insight on why we kept that thread open, the OP was getting suitably roasted by the community.

We closed the thread after the community has their fun. Sometimes the best way to prevent future trash threads is to see that everyone dislikes them.

I happen to like console warring. Yā€™all take it too seriously.

What, weā€™re just supposed to like everything and dance around like different opinions donā€™t exist? Boring.

Itā€™s only an issue when people take it too seriously or donā€™t admit when their take is wrong.

Otherwise itā€™s all in good fun.

For instance: From software is the most overrated studio of all time, I hope Sony never buys them.

Thatā€™s me being dead serious but obviously I donā€™t care if sony ever bought them. Donā€™t let my opinion ruin your day.

I hate Nintendo, I havenā€™t owned a Nintendo device since SNES. Iā€™m supposed to have good things to say about them?

Iā€™m a graphics whore, how could I possibly like Nintendo?

So if I throw some shade at them every now and then to me it shouldnā€™t be an issue. Donā€™t take it so dammmmn seriously šŸ˜

Why do console wars affect yā€™all so much?

BMW vs Audi

Apple vs Samsung

Coke vs Pepsi

Nikon vs Canon

Barcelona vs Real Madrid

Why do Nintendo Microsoft and Sony all have to get along?

Boring

It's not about admitting someone is wrong because opinions can't be wrong as they are not facts.

The problem is people taking it personally and being incapable of formulating interesting arguments.

You can have debates and interesting discussions with differing opinions without being mentally ill (a warrior).

Sometimes you just wanna shoot the shit and not get into why you feel that way. But I get your point.

Generally I donā€™t mind if a forum has a few mindless fanboys. They are fun to read lmao

True, but itā€™s still all part of the console war regardless of how eloquently someone says Nintendo sucks

Not really. You can dislike games Nintendo puts out without being a console warrior. A warrior is someone who promotes and only plays/defends a particular brand. For example, TheLastWord. Any discussion he joined in on would devolve into petty insults, dismissal of evidence, and driving away people who want to have a genuine discussion.

I personally feel that most modern first party titles on Xbox have been incredibly subpar to, at times, abysmal. That has nothing to do with the console itself or the company - but just the products being released. This does not make me a console warrior, for example. Now if all I ever did was crap on *everything* Xbox put out? Constantly push that the entire console is garbage, that the publisher doesnā€™t know what its doing, and that some other brand is far better while defending everything said publisher does, even if they did the *exact* same thing I criticized MS/Xbox for doing? That would make me a warrior.

I would argue that what you want isnā€™t console warring, but quality discussions with some light hearted brevity over differing opinions. Which is what Forums typically excel at. Actual Warriors on the other hand only ever serve to ruin said discussions.

Pretty much why i barely post here is because most threads tend to devolve into petty platform warring regardless of how many people end up banned for it. Actually it's amazing how it never ends regardless of how many people get perma'd for it.

Honestly I was starting to spend more time in the off-topic and community section for a while but noticed the gaming side getting a fair bit better the last week or two, as some notorious users have been banned recently. Plus the big announcements and shows have gone by, which seemed to bring out the worst. Oogaā€™s was the only thread that stood out as dumb and in warring mode that kept on going. I saw Faustā€™s explanation and recently saw this, so some things end up working out with time.

I have been particularly bewildered by the age-old gaming concept of "wars" for some time.

Things like "Console-warring", "PC masterrace", etc.....

I've always seen them as some kind of weird gaming fad I was never in on.

I just decided to remain an amused observer to all instances of the so called "wars", ever since the point I became aware of them.

But seeing some threads today, especially @OOGABOOGA 's thread and @Gamer79 's topic earlier were what set me off to write this topic.

I split my gaming between my PS5 and 1070 PC (a lower-middle range setup nowadays). I have partial access to a Wii, Switch and XOne, so I play games on them whenever I get the chance.

I've experienced a broad range of games: dabbling into Playstation's as opposed to Playground's racing (GT and Forza), across different genres, series and publishers, all the way to Nintendo's fantasy (e.g. Zelda, Mario....).

Even with my range of gaming, I am not even remotely a hyper-fan of Microsoft (Xbox, Windows), PlayStation, Nintendo or their hardware.

Why?

It's cuz Im a fan of GAMES.
If Im interested in playing a game, I play it!
On whatever I can...
Whenever I can.

I don't mentally burden myself with pointless, irrelevant stuff (like whether my plastic box performs better, or has "greater" games on it, than a different box).
If at all I use any brainpower on a game, it is to critique a game, assess it and adjudge its quality. And I NEVER use a game's platform as a basis to judge it's quality.

"Platform-blindness" is a good term to describe my point of view.
I don't see platforms, I only see games.
The plastic box (console or PC), is just a "container" to me. I only use that "container" as a means to play the games (i.e. content) I want.
What I play games on is irrelevant to me.
Simple as that.

Look guys.

We are grown, mature, knowledgable, rational people (well, most of us are).

Why would y'all be arguing about which gaming "container" is the "best", and be trying to put down ppl using different "containers" from yours?

Ridiculous is an understatement for this.

GaF's purpose is to discuss GAMES, FIRST AND FOREMOST, and then all other things gaming.
It's kind of saddening that people are derailing threads, and the Forum in general, using gaming discussion as a cover to champion and push all kinds of "warring".

I advise that you guys (GaF in general) should:

1. focus less on the hardware you play on, and more on the games you play (as you should). I feel it allows you to be open-minded, and it eliminates a lot of unnecessary mental gymnastics.

2. Don't be reductive. Even if you want to uphold your fave platform, you can always do so in a way that is not condescending to other "platforms" and their folks.

I just know a lot of you will ignore this piece of advice.

This is just a fair, objective, unbiased mindset from a multi-platform gamer

I never have and never will understand platform warring.

People say stuff like this, but companies like Apple, Nintendo, Sony, Valve, Epic, and Microsoft are straight up enemies of gaming. They try to lock everything down. They try to make you buy hardware you don't need. They try to create walled gardens that lock you in.

Just as an example, you realize that Nintendo's end game is just to become Disney, right? That's why they're getting into theme parks, movies, and other nonsense. Gaming has always been a stepping stone for those scumbags. They don't actually care about video games as art. They have their eye on the prize: selling overpriced t-shirts and drinks to captive audiences.

Video games need to be freed from platforms. You shouldn't even THINK about what "system" a game is on. If you want to play a game, you should just buy it and be able to run it on whichever computers (all these consoles are just computers) you want to.

So, yes, some people will get irritated and a little bent out of shape when they're shoveled the shit sandwich of being told how great some shitty locked down platform holder is and how you should just take a nice heaping mouthful of PILLOW while they do they do on your butt. I will NEVER buy another walled garden machine again. If I can't program games for it by myself with zero licensing or dependencies on a company, no sale. I'm done with hardware I don't own and games locked to paperweights I don't want.
