GTA: San Andreas Mod Upscales Visuals Better Than Definitive Edition

As an example, modder flyaway888 has taken Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and upscaled it "six times" to give the original installment a much crisper look. Images and video footage show that, while retaining the look of the 2004 release, the visuals have been given a bit of a boost. Many would likely argue that this version is a vast improvement of the upscaled trilogy that Grove Street Games did. The details in this mod breathe a new kind of life into the beloved GTA entry, so players may be interested in checking it out.

I'm confused about the footage. What has been "upscaled" exactly? Shit looks the same.

It's probably the PC version. San Andreas is a rare instance where the PC port was unmitigated shit. Two decades, Rockstar releasing multiple versions, and a veritable encyclopedia of mods that play whack-a-mole with glitches, hasn't truly set it right.

The best version to me is still the PS4 version that was releases on the PSN Store. It has clear graphics and a solid framerate. It would be perfect if the original songs were still all there.

It pains me that Rockstar can degrade the games that them on the map.

To really make it pop you need a lighting mod/ENB. Otherwise it'll still look like an early 2000s game.

Personally I dig the SDGE Reborn 2.0 ENB (4:17), it has that faded washed in sunset look that defines 90s So Cal:

Video really shows how poor the world design was. I remember this game feeling massive back in the day, but seeing CJ walk through that neighborhood at the end. Whoof. Really puts something like GTAV or hell even GTAIV in perspective.

is there an infinite draw distance mod? that would be interesting... and I wonder if modern PCs would have issues having the whole game loaded at once 🤔

Project2DFX increases the draw distance of foliage, buildings, lightmaps, particle effects, etc, and the game looks pretty damn good.

The majority of other "Draw Distance" mods only scale the weather fog effect which doesn't affect objects and the rest so you still get major pop in.

I really wonder if a true infinite draw distance mod could run on modern hardware.

not just increased draw distance for static stuffy but literally infinite draw distance for NPCs and cars etc.

That was something the Reverse Engineered builds could do, but they were attacked by Take-Two.
