Any thoughts on this build? Is everything compatible? Is the PSU sufficient enough for upgrades of other components in the future? Any CPU cooler alternatives? Also what do people use to drive 250 Ohm headphones these days? I still use an audio card but do people do this via external methods now? Is it something a motherboard can handle? And speaking of which is the motherboard I've chosen any decent or should I go for something else as far as DDR5 support and Intel CPU upgrades go? Thanks.

Intel Core i5-12600K Boxed €305,90
ASUS PRIME Z690-P €214,90
NZXT H510 Zwart/Wit €74,90 or Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact White TG Clear Tint €126,89
be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 €78,50
Kingston Fury Beast KF552C40BBK2-16 €108,04
Corsair RM750 (2019) €99,90
Samsung 980 1TB €91,61
---
Total: € 973,75 (or with the Fractal case: €1026,9)

I mainly want to play multiplayer games at 1440p running at 120-144fps at medium to high graphics in the future (which is something I do already on the build spoilered below but with more and more compromises obviously). I don't mind playing singleplayer titles, with all the bells and whistled turned to max, at 90fps or there about. Right now I'll be transferring a 1080ti from my old PC to the new one to hopefully upgrade to a 3000-series card in the future.
MOBO: Asus TUF Z370-PRO GAMING
GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming 8G
CPU: Intel Core i5-8600K 3600 1151 - Scythe Mugen 5 PCGH Edition
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB - PC4-24000
Audio: Asus Xonar Essence STX 124dB SNR
PSU: Seasonic FOCUS Plus 650 Gold 650W ATX
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
SSD: Kingston A2000 1TB M.2
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 White

EDIT: I got this build recommended by someone else instead, due to more CPU cores and the fact that DDR5 isn't worth it at the moment:

1KVy6UV.png

So better performance for now at slightly more cost but worse down the line for not being able to utilize DDR5 or other features?

Ordered a Gigabyte M32U. Went back and forth between it and the ultrawide but figured I'd be more comfortable with the 4K for doing productivity stuff.

Guys help me to decide. I5 12600 non k/kf or 5600x for a backup pc with a 6700 xt for 1080p gaming.
12600 is a better cpu, so go with that.

Right now the gaming difference between ddr4 and 5 is non-existent so go for 4. I'd go for the 12600k over the 12700k since they perform identically.

It's not non-existent. DDR5 is better, it's not 100% price premium better.

Jay actually has a good point here. If you want a GPU you should strongly consider getting one NOW. ALthough, he fails to consider how miners will be unloading their cards for a long while. He still has valid points that 3000 series GPUs will still be in high supply by the time 4000 series launch.

Coming from a guy who is provided free samples and run an ad supported channel. I'm sure these companies aren't paying him in some way to help them sell out of current gen before the next gen arrives.

I have been hell bent on buying the noctua 3080 that was announced a few months back and it was announced for early JUNE release. Today is the first day I've seen it available to buy. I have checked every day since June 1. It's what I've been planning for as a second build for months, but I just can't bring myself to buy it now. It's also $1000 and I could get a 3080ti for nearly the same price. I'm going to try and wait for next gen and see what happens. I don't need the damn thing in the first place. Before 980ti gen I never paid more than $500 for a gpu. I had a near panic after buying a 980ti for $700. Now I own a $1500 rtx3090 and now considering a second $1000 gpu....

I watched the JayZ video and I didn't really hear him mention anything about the Digitimes article claiming Nvidia was looking to delay production by 1 or 2 quarters. His info seems old. Also, I don't think we've hit the bottom as far as pricing for used mining cards. I don't believe we're even seeing the vast majority of these cards being sold just yet.

His advice is if you want a card just buy it now, but with 3000 series cards in-stock all over, I don't see the urgency, or the harm in waiting to see used options from mining cards. Lowest new card I've seen for 3080 is $789. Used 3080s are at around $650. 4070 should be around 3080 or a little better. Maybe at $600 msrp, but who knows?

I'll revisit this post in a month to see if 3080s suddenly sold out, and mining cards never became cheaper more available by then.

All of my cooling is Noctua and would love to have a theme going with that card. Not for that price though. I have a 6800xt plus, and with 40XX around the corner, thats a no go. It would be nice if they come out with a 4 series card though.

EDIT: I shouldnt say "not for that price", rather the timing of release sucks ( for me at least ).

there are rumours that the RTX40 series will be expensive as fuck, which might push RTX30 series prices up because vendors and retailers know they sell even at those ridiculous prices.

these rumours could be false, they also could be true but things might change last second.

he has an anecdote in the video of him being in a live chat with Board Partners during the reveal of the RTX20 series and Nvidia apparently changed pricing literally that day and made the cards more expensive because they thought they can get away with it.
that change surprised leading personnel of said board partners who basically heard of that change live during the event.

so Nvidia changes pricing often at a whim depending on how they think the market will react.

I'd count on nvidia pushing back the 4000 series once the 3000 series are dried up.

A 5600X3D would be a really nice CPU for gaming.
Would be pointless for amd to make considering the cost of the cache and they want binned silicon for the 5800x3d due to it already having lower clocks than the vanilla 5800x. Plus with such a beastly single core perf the 8 core x3D has room to grow when 8 cores becomes the new sweet spot.

5600x3d would be pretty much tapped on release and clocked lower than the 8 core because of non binned chips

Worth a upgrade from a Zotac RTX 3070 for 4k gaming?
Can an Ryzen 7 5800X handle?

The 5800x is overkill for gaming at native 4k usually with 3080, yeah.

Not sure why you'd get a new card only 1 tier up from the same generation with new cards coming? Absolutely would not do that

So I bought this laptop from Amazon. Seems great for the price. What do you think? Did I get a good deal or is there a better laptop out there around the $1000 or less price range? I’d be willing to go a little over that if there is a drastically better option. It needs to have at minimum a 3060 GPU. On my desktop PC I prefer to go balls to the wall, but on a laptop I’m fine with a 1080p display. Screen size isn’t a big deal.

When is the new generation coming?

Rumors are that nvidia may delay 4000 series it to early next year and god knows how much they will cost when they are released. You can bet they will be scalped into oblivion. I also expect nvidia to constrain supply to keep prices high.

I’d go with a 12 GB 3080 if you’re going to make that jump. Some of the gigabyte brand 12GB can be has for around $800. Otherwise just keep the 3070.

I could see that point if he had something much older than the 3070.

I don't think Nvidia will delay, if amd doesn't. I think we will start to see cards by at least September but we will see...

No doubt Nvidia is WANTING to do scummy crap like that though.

Nvidia will most definitely delay if they still have 3000 series GPUs floating around. Not to mention competing with miners dumping stock.

For laptops and gaming performance it will usually come down to the TDP/power limit. I have a Asus TUF Dash F15 3060 that I got for a good deal in early 2021. However, it's limited to 85W, so it performs similar to a 130W 2060 laptop. The Amazon listing for your Gigabyte K1 says 140W max graphics power, so that will be a good gaming laptop.

so i have this gamepad for my pc
nacon-revolution-pro-2.jpg

and it developed stick drift on both of the analogs recently , i read some tips on gaf and simply used compressed air at the analog stick bases full 360 degrees and now the drift is gone
is that a temporary solution or will these sticks degrade more over time?

Cancelled my 3060 and went with this one for $150 more. 3070 has about 15% more performance and costs 15% more.

Should be a great laptop.

I have 2 kids whose birthdays are at the end of August. They're running RX 560's right now. I was thinking about upgrading to 6600/6650XT's for their birthday. Think it's worth it or risk looking for RX7000's/RTX4000's before Christmas?

Evga ftw3 3080 12gb for $800... We have come a long way. Still not cheap enough for me with the new cards on the horizon, but if it hit $700 I'd be tempted.

it is nice to see pricing at a normalized state. Still a tad high for the current cycle but all good. We know those prices are gonna jump up as soon the new cards release.

Since they're playing on 560's, I'd say the 6600/6650 would be huge upgrades for them. In my opinion, go for it.

In my quest to find a fairly priced gaming laptop I remain unsuccessful.

This laptop listed right here should have been the end of the search. It's a Lenovo and it has all the great features.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo-L...ndows-11-Home-Storm-Gray-82RG0005US/197908523

Unfortunately, it ended up being too good to be true as GSync does not function on it and will be returned. Yes, I tried everything they are doing in the forums, hybrid switching and everything. No GSync option despite being advertised as a feature in the spec sheet.

What are the make or break features you need in a laptop and price you won't go beyond?

I have the zephyrus g15. The lack of webcam was, for me, a favorite feature. But, I had 2 previous laptops in 17" size and I've come to regret getting the 15 inch laptop. I have been looking to upgrade to a 17. The other thing I hate about this laptop are the speakers. My previous laptop blows it out of the water and it's jarring. I don't want to hook up speakers/phones every time I want to listen to something.

Look at Sager or eluktronics, direct buy for cheaper.

I'm personally looking at the alienware x17. The AMD m17 model does not have a 4k gsync so you are stuck with 6700m which is a joke for trying to game in 4k. The x17 has great cooling and everything else I want in a laptop, just way too expensive right now. It's not the fastest, but it looks great and cools well. The model I want is more than double $1500, what I paid for the g15.

It must have Gsync on the actual display itself. No ifs ands or buts, which means it also musty have a MUX switch. Resolution I dont care so much about like I do on my desktop. $1200ish about where I'll go.

The $1200 Lenovo I bought was simply too good to be true. It could be a driver issue, but I returned it and am done with it. Im not going to wait around and see if Lenovo might add that feature back in.

Alienware laptops are absurdly expensive and aren't known for being one of the best. A 3050Ti laptop cost $1500. No fucking way...

I do like the specs of this one. It's from the Outlet store and uses last years Raptor Lake CPU, but it aint bad specs wise. $1650 is still too expensive.

The shell of the alienware is a lot better than most. It's the reason I like it a lot. It's thin and sleek, doesn't have weird lumps. Previous models I never even considered, also the cooling is better than most this generation. I'm not averse to paying more for something that has higher quality. I'm also looking at the model that is 3080/4k. So it's outrageously expensive compared to other models.

The g15 I have, I fell for all the reviews gushing over it and should have waited on it. I half knew I would be disappointed with 15" and was right. If there was a 17" version I'd be happy.

My previous was a bottom barrel razer 17. It was the only brand that had a 17 screen with mux at the time. I loved it, but I didn't like their newer models.

Yeah, I don't know the models for your range. The mux switch should be a standard feature, but it seems to be a pain to get a hold of. gsync+mux is a rare thing it seems.

I very incorrectly assumed GSYNC would be a standard feature in laptops with high refresh rate screens and nvidia GPUs so I never bothered to look for it to be sure. Based on my experience with the Lenovo now I can’t even be sure if it will support it even if the fucking spec sheet says it does.

Hello everyone, I am picking up an old PC from a friend. It is unused but it has slightly old 2080 TI.

It has a 14 Core/28 i9 thread processor and 64 gig ram which is why I purcahsed it for Lab (Networking lab) related use.

is 2080ti good for GameCube/PS2/switch emulators ? Might squeeze in some gaming.

I don't really know the comparison in scores or fps. For me, I live half my life on the road, so I want the best experience I can when I'm away from home. When I'm shopping for a laptop, I look for features that I need and try to find the best machine to do it.

If you're not someone that needs the biggest feature of a laptop, portability, don't bother. They come with all sorts of tradeoffs that I would not consider worth the buy in. You can build your own desktop machine in SFF (small form factor) that's just as powerful as any machine you see for sale and 1/4 the size. You pay a little extra for some of the smaller components but the benefit is a tiny package that you can update with new hardware whenever you want.

They would blow the PS5 and XSX out of the water, but you will pay at around 4X -5X ($2000 at least) as much for that privilege.

How much more do you guys think prices will drop before they sell all the old cards? I've pretty much decided to jump on the 3080 12gb I want if it hits $700. $800 right now and it's going in and out of stock

Well the leftover stock when next gen is out will drop even more. That noctua card when it was available on newegg sold out in a day or 2. I've been eyeing so many cards but I'm trying to hold out for another price drop. Unfortunately when that comes the leftovers will be all the cards most people don't want even now.

I saw newegg had the msi suprimx 3080 ti for under $1000. But unless I go for another psu I have to stick to 3080 10g so i don't blow it up.

IIRC the 3080 12gb is just a slightly cut down 3080 ti, and definitely judging by the benchmarks I don't see any reason to get the TI.

I really don't see any reason to get the 3090 either unless for some reason you needed the vram.

Will raptor lake support pci-e 5.0 ssd’s or only pci-e videocards? Looks like there will only be 16 pci-e lanes if I’m not mistaken?
