Xenoblade Chronicles 3 | Review Thread

I read a good chunk of reviews, including the lower score ones, many of the complains appear to be less about the game itself and more to do with the system its on šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

What's the point of mentioning Xenoblade 3 would be 'better' if it was on another console? i get wanting to run on higher frames and iq, but many times gamers mean the visuals(really bothered by the ocassional low resolution asset and repeated textures ) , yes Xeno3 would look prettier on more powerful hardware(we might see it running nicely on Switch 2 one day) , but its questionable if it would be a better designed game, just prettier.

The thing is with new hardware comes expectations, its not
about running the same visuals on higher settings(because that doesnā€™t hype gamers) this is a massive game, scope is rarely seen(if at all) on other JRPGs , so more visual complexity takes time and money, the Switch isn't very powerful but the tradeoff is it can take some time off developers, Monolith designed and developed this game right after the Xenoblade 2 expansion was released, had they changed hardware it would simply NOT be possible to release this game on time, instead of being thankful Xenoblade got a brand new game so soon(very impressive it didn't took longer) , one that improves on many of the prequel's faults, some are trashing it because of lol graphics

Like I can understand and emphatize with wanting X game on the 'best' system possible, but gamers rarely think about the scope, money, and time these projects take, when shouting these criticisms. Monolith still tried to make the best game they could for the hardware, and looks like they accomplished something special

Currently hearing the review of IGN. I chuckled about the hardware limitation part. MonolithSoft is first party Nintendo studio. Hoping their games on other console. It's also an exclusive game, if they mention about hardware limitation on multiplatform games, I understand.

Wait they actually wrote that? That's very unprofessional. I'm getting tired of all the calls of better hardware. šŸ˜“

Itā€™s also unfortunate that, although Xenoblade 3ā€™s environments are awesome to roam around in, they rarely look pretty due to the Nintendo Switch being pushed to its absolute limits by such an ambitious voyage. I played on my OLED model and switched between docked and mobile mode regularly, but even with Nintendoā€™s most recent hardware textures are often low-res, thereā€™s frequent pop-in (and out), and oftentimes I just couldnā€™t help but feel like the world was a bit blurry. The good news is that I quickly got used to these visual shortcomings and, once I accepted it for what it was, it only rarely dampened my enjoyment. Thankfully cutscenes, at least, are crisp and the frame rate runs at a rock-solid 30 even when dozens of things are happening on-screen at the same time, but itā€™s still sorta disappointing to see such obvious hardware limitations in an adventure that reaches for the stars in so many other areas.

IGN review is more like a complain than review lol

It's funny I don't notice the visual quality in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. And I'm guessing when I play Xenoblade Chronicles 3, I'll have the same reaction. It's getting annoying to the point where they aren't actually reviewing the game but just the graphics. It's really unfair šŸ˜•

Yeah, I saw some texture pop in when playing Xenoblade 2, but really not care about it since I'm immersed with the game

I notice the visual quality. And the technical limitations of the system. If you've played the previous games, you know exactly what to expect, particularly if you played XC2, but that doesn't mean you can't be bummed thinking about what the game could look like on better hardware.

Would be nice if media outlets all reviewed games based on them being games and not the graphical fidelity it provides. But everything just has to be so superficial these days.

I'm curious though if any other developer has something on the scale of Xenoblade that I can play and enjoy? I'm guessing the answer is no? The closest would be an MMO like Guild Wars 2 if I'm not mistaken.

Thats the issue I have with all these reviewers complaining about graphics. If the world looks great and the gameplay is great, who cares if it's weaker hardware

Xenoblade Chronicles X is a perfect example of a game looking amazing and that's on weaker hardware too

Like if a Switch 2 came out soon and it had the power of a PS4, these guys would still be bitching about the power lol

Yeah, graphic fidelity is like the least thing I care about a game lol. Gameplay first and story is number one.

Even though I like JRPG, I haven't played many JRPG lately. Maybe another MMO is FF14

In comparison to Xenoblade, FF14 is a poor choice. Xenoblade offers a compelling JRPG narrative but the real draw of Xenoblade I feel is exploration or at least if you see it you can probably go there 9/10 times. And FF14 is HEAVILY instanced. Very themepark centric.

I feel like GW2, Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, BotW might be more apt. I'd include Genshin Impact but it kind of tapered off after a strong start in Mondstadt and then fell off a cliff.

Its curious how they lament Monolith's artists are so 'limited' by the Switch(idk if its the same review as IGN, they all sound the same šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø) when its clearly not by budget or Nintendo's backing, since thanks to them, their developers can make big ambitious projects like this.

If not for Nintendo and their systems, who knows where Monolith would be today, and even supposing they would be developing a massive JRPG like Xenoblade, IGN guys would certainly NOT be playing the game today since it would still be in development, all those amazing assets won't create themselves after all.

Oh, I thought you meant about the story. Great exploration is pretty rare, even some open world games have boring exploration. From recent memory, I think I enjoyed exploring Dying Light 1.

Story XIV has in spades. But the exploration I really enjoy in XBC. I like being rewarded for finding new areas and stuff or finding something you never would have guessed was there.

Too many games just point you in a direction like you are on rails through set pieces and there isn't anything to explore on your own.

That's looks reasonable to me. It should be brought up in the review. If the game is ugly due to being blurry it should be brought up.
But the game is no where near close to being ā€œuglyā€ even Digital Foundry was happy with the visuals, now if that reviewer expecting PS4/5 visuals on Switch then thatā€™s not gameā€™s fault.

XC3 is pulling off amazing visuals and scale on weak system which deserves praise instead of look down up on.

The person didn't mention ps4/5. But, if the game suffers visually no matter what, the topic should be brought up in a review. There is no doubt the game's resolution suffers. That could impact a players enjoyment of the game.

Again XC3 is big scale RPG even bigger than games like FFVIIR and itā€™s running on Switch, so visuals not gonna be 100% perfect.

Its impressive how big and busy the game is with mostly smooth frames. Criticizing the game thats trying to squeeze the most out of a small/weak console is dumb. Itā€™s an impressive technical showcase.

Just have to remember some of these reviewers and journalists are professional complainers. Misdirecting the faults of the console to the game is dumb.
