Microsoft Earning Report FY22 Q4 | Gaming Revenue Down 7% YoY

Back in the fray already, I see 😂
Did I lie? Just an honest opinion based on the info being discussed here, deal with it.

Final Fantasy XVI, Forspoken, Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad, Harry Potter, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghostwire Tokyo, God of War, GT7, Avatar and a lot of other AAA games got COVID related delays. It’s called a Pandemic.

Platform warring is probably the only reason why you’re playing up delays for Redfall and Starfield as outliers.
Final Fantasy XVI was never delayed, why do people keep saying that?

Holy shit, man! What we do know, Microsoft is a trillion dollar company. Sony and Nintendo, aren't. Not even close. What else do you need to know? If that doesn't explain why they don't reveal numbers, you can't be helped.

There is no need to be upset, my dear Gavon.

Even if Playstation and Nintendo are down, they'll still have profits to show.

My post is perfectly fine as a response for the person I quoted.

If you can't stand thread sales just ignore it.

It’s just weird.
Microsoft: “second best Q4 for Xbox ever!”
nomnom: “well, this must be terrible for them!”

When you’re getting support from Rivet, you know you’re on the wrong track 😀
What is your expectation? That they would spend billions of dollars on a publisher and not have a bigger revenue than they ever had? How does that make any sense?

You set a very low bar then want people to be impressed just like you for some reason.

Great that he makes sure not to include the Switch to claim they sold the most consoles on a single market when the only competitor that would qualify is heavily supply constrained. The art of spinning.

That's all fine, but the reason they stopped giving out Xbox sales numbers was due to how poorly Xbox One performed. Let's not pretend that was just a coincidence.

Perhaps? But Series X/S isn’t performing poorly. And we aren’t in the xbox One days anymore.

Let’s acknowledge now that it won’t make sense to focus on console numbers these days that xbox is PC/Console/Cloud and move on.

Fixation on console numbers in these threads is borderline trolling these days. MS isn’t going to provide them, and hasn’t provided them for what, 7 years now?

Gaming grows as a business, so of course every quarter is at least close to the best ones. That's PR spin. What is remarkable is having hardware sales down double digit year over year at the start of a new console gen, even after investing billions. You'd expect some kind of growth. At least a positive number.

Now if it's enough to celebrate for Xbox fanboys, the bar was very low.

What is the point of these threads if not to focus on numbers? To blindly cheer MS's PR framing?

It's also funny that for some reason the only numbers that matter are the ones MS makes public, fair, it's hard to discuss numbers we don't have. But then if a metric they previously used to signal that their gaming division was doing well like quarterly growth or increase in service revenue don't go their way then it also doesn't matter...

edit: A mod deleted my post where I was commenting on the quarterly declining what is going on here? You getting paid or something to suppress information that might make MS look bad? How silly.

I'm expecting to see you in the Playstation thread on Friday. Something tells me you won't be attending 🤭

You can read, right? There’s tons of numbers in the OP. A lot of them. Plenty to focus on. The thread is pretty much on point with those.

Demanding for specific numbers that Microsoft does not provide and will not provide is sheer inanity.

I think that is a better argument than misconstruing why Microsoft stopped giving out numbers in the first place (not that you did). Like I said before, I'm perfectly fine pointing out why Sony fudged or withheld numbers in the past. I just think it is better to be honest about why it happened. Just a corporate PR game really. I don't think it is really that big of a deal.

Yeah, I don't think anyone should be beating their chests here. Sony isn't going to beat last year's numbers either.

Ah. It must have crushed your spirit when Sony announced hardware sales down for the last quarter.

Of course, intelligent folks know the reason for the negative growth numbers the console OEMs are posting…

Come on, they stopped giving out numbers because the Xbox One wasn't selling well. It couldn't be any more clear. It's how it is, you see on these very statements that now that they are apparently beating a supply constrained PS5 in a single market they make sure to mention that after years of silence and saying stuff like that they were not competing with PlayStation.

Ah. It must have crushed your spirit when Sony announced hardware sales down for the last quarter.
You think it's a positive thing that Sony announced that they failed to reach their hardware goals last quarter? That's clearly not what they were going for.

Sony didn't spend $7B buying another publisher last year... I wonder if Sony's numbers shrink people will be allowed to comment on it... It will be interesting to watch.
See lol, the excuses already.
What in Satan's butthole fuck is wrong with some of you?, eh?. What do you get out of this?. You have just come back from a ban and you are going in harder than ever.
Honestly some of you have real fucking problems.

I'm sorry that you can't process the information without getting emotional. Point to where I lied or said something that is unreasonable.

But Microsoft buying a publisher has nothing to do with the revenue reported.
Yes it does. You think that absorbing a huge company like Bethesda isn't going to affect their gaming revenue?

It should have a huge positive impact going forward otherwise what was the point of spending that money in the first place?

What are you talking about? Where did I demand anything or ever brought that up? I was just bringing up the fact that you seem to have a problem even with people discussing numbers that are in the report if they don't interpret them in a positive light.

It doesn't help that mods delete posts talking about numbers that are clearly in the report as well.

Also if you don't want to talk about numbers that are not in the report, don't bring them up and say they are positive but MS just choses to not make them public then complain that people are now talking about them, come on now.

Bethesda revenue is probably 3% or 4% of Xbox if that. It's probably worse since the output has been pretty shit. They're not going to be able to offset declines.
Are you implying that MS output was good in the last quarter? I don't get the point at all, so what if Bethesda didn't have much, neither did MS and that's how they got the results that they got. It can't be ignored that a $7B publisher was folded into Xbox this past year.

The only thing Zenimax published last quarter was a DLC for Elder Scrolls Online, and that happened towards the very end of the quarter. I guess you'll have to find another excuse.
To be fair he means that compared to last year, this quarter will have Bethesda game sales included, which is a fair point. But like you said, they have only released some dlc, and no new games, so with all their games being put on Gamepass anyway, we are probably talking peanuts, and nothing that would actually change a quarters earnings when we are talking billions.

I explained how. It's not hard, come on.

Less XSX available, more (much cheaper) XSS sold = less total revenue.

Not saying this is the case cause we don't have the numbers but a 'what if' would show it's possible.

Q2 2021
50X @ 499 = 24,950
50S @ 299 = 14,950
100 consoles = 39,900

Q2 2022
30X @ 499 = 14,970
80S @ 299 = 23,920
110 consoles = 38,990

So that would be 10% more units in total, but 3% less revenue. Again not saying that this is the case, not enough info. I do wondering if we should be using the CC changes but ehh.

I'm sorry but this is an excuse, just to show a 3% decline. They either haven't met Series X demand or demand for it has fallen. There is no scenario where:

"They've been more readily available... Still a ton of demand, but Sony and MS are able to produce more now and actually get them onto shelves."

Would make sense.
Catching up with demand and Series X being more readily available would imply an increase in revenue but that hasn't happened because Series S hasn't had supply problems to begin with. So with a 11% decrease it would imply they
A) haven't met demand of series X or
B) demand for the console decreased

Seeing as he is saying they are more readily available but with a 11% decrease in sales it means demand has dropped.

I know the idea of console demand especially xbox makes you upset but logically how can hardware sales be down 11% with more consoles available on shelves but demand be the same? Does logic not mean anything to you?

11% in $$. When you sell $300 boxes where you sold $500 boxes in the comparative quarter, the numbers can be lower. LOL

In the states, XSX has been less available over the last few months than it had been the few months prior. Seems to be some ebb and flow to it.

You were the one that brought up the Bethesda thing ffs. You should be thankful i tried to explain that you were right to point it out. Its true though they released no new games, and had all their games put on Gamepass. In last quarter we are probably talking a few million, maybe 10 mil tops added to the number, but when the number is in the billions, a few million isnt going to make much difference is it.

God people on this site lol, Jesus H Christ.

Honestly if some of you shitposters in this thread start making excuses if Sony also reports a decline, well lets just say i hope the mods will be watching that thread closely.

Think in terms of reporting in JPY; Sony might largely from increased HW and FX changes

Average Conversion rates for the same Q last year:
USD 109.5 now 136 (24% increase)
EUR 131.9 now 138 (5% increase)
YUAN 16.9 now 20.7 (22% increase).

It would depend on the FX that Sony use obvious and also will negatively impact Operating Margin.

Read my latest reply. Series S has not had supply issues for a long long time. When people say more readily available they are talking about Series X and PS5s being easier to buy. If they are easier to buy now and hardware revenue for xbox has declined by 11% what does that mean to you? They are either not more readily available or demand has declined.

Sony was able to navigate around it just fine and have multi-exclusives each year. By all means, please continue to carry water for MS.

For the record, MS has done almost everything BUT manage their first party studios right. The Xbox Series X is a fantastic console. It had many desirable features introduced Day 1. Things like VRR and 4K/120. Gamepass gives great value if you're new to the service. Although I have long questioned the long term viability.

It drives me crazy how they have all these studios and not one can fucking deliver a game on time, while you have studios like Insomniac that can put out multiple titles in a year.

Ignore the 3% cause its just made up numbers, i was just proving it's mathematically possible if they haven't sold as many Series X as previously, I do think demand for the S has been met and probably has declined YoY. I am less sure about the Series X.

Correct, without a big release this quarter, it's weird to use "but lol bethesda" as an argument. They need to have something out in the quarter for it to be counted *in* the quarter.

These quarterly earnings, especially for the gaming side, will be a lot more interesting if/when the Activision deal closes. It should take a very sharp uptick.

I dont know how it is in the US but i have never seen a XSX or PS5 on a store shelf. When i was selling my 980ti to the local computer exchange, i saw someone bring in a XSX to sell, that was literally the first time i have seen a XSX in the flesh (and it wa gone by the next day).
Fact is even if its a bit easier to get a XSX in the US, its very easy to buy an XSS. XSS sales will be vastly better than XSX over this last quarter.

XSX hasn't seemed more available in the US. Drops at major retailers have seemed further apart over the last few months. The ratio of XSS/XSX units they sell is going to have a major impact on the sales number in dollars.

For the first time, I saw someone walk out of my Walmart in a pretty rough neighborhood walk out with a PS5. I was legit worried he would get mugged.

I mean, they're not exactly wrong - when spending that much on a publisher you expect revenue to increase which in turn breaks records, that goes for Sony as well moving forward since they finalized the Bungie acquisition.

Hopefully, everyone brings the same energy then.

They’ve long since switched to MAUs, which does make sense for their console business since Xbox is now on PC and cloud streaming.

Your logic doesn’t work since they report Gamepass numbers…even when you lot insist that they’re behind Sony in subscribers.

You folks have been making the “MS won’t release numbers because they’re last “ posts for years. If insanity is defined as “doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”, what does that say about folks that come into every MS quarterly report thread to whine about sales numbers?
Doesn't matter what they switched to. It's why they switched to it. Which is because they were doing poorly and were behind. Unfortunately since they won't report anything it's hard to say how far they have caught up .

Who's whining? I'm not; im calling out a poster who always posts fiction and never facts. This whole celebrating MAU people peddle is just a meaningless number people use to shelters themselves.
