Developers are also being cautious not to “punch down” by making jokes about marginalized groups, the people said, in contrast with previous Grand Theft Auto games

This was the identity of GTA. This game will sell but the edge it was known for will be completely gone.

Between the company’s new direction and the 2019 departure of Dan Houser, who led creative direction on many previous games, all indications suggest Grand Theft Auto VI will feel very different than its predecessor.

Lmao they're pretty much admitting that House was the last remaining person with power holding these people back.

While the headline clearly on purpose makes it sound she will be the only playable character, the article itself states she will be part of a group of leading characters. Sounds like a repeat of GTA 5 to me.

Having a female as the only playable character would be way too drastic for this franchise and honestly I wouldn't be happy either, not gonna deny that.
The article said there will be two main characters, a man and woman. Did you even read the article lol?

They are doing a Bonnie and Clyde type story. Bonnie and Clyde were a romantic couple that did crime together.

i agree. they'll put that out and maybe give it few patches for bugs then go all in with GTAO 2. i'm not expecting much from the actual SP content. it'll be like those MP games that have a campaign. a simple short campaign but the real game starts when you go to online. CoD is a perfect example.

But the article says they will update the game to add new missions and locations. That to me already sounds like GTA Online, certainly not how they'd treat a single-player mode.

Almost sounds like a merge of SP and MP. Hope that isn't it.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
I'm less concerned about the female protagonist, and more concerned about them " not wanting to punch down". Gta made its name by being controversial. Caving into the demands of the nutjob blue haired Twitter brigade isn't going to net you more sales.
GTA made a name by being fun.

ANDS

King of Gaslighting
I love how the only two options are "GTA6 is dead if they remove 'PostOP', and 'Bum Buddies'" low hanging fruit (pun intended) humor from the game (hilarious all the "Say what. . .GTAV had LGBTQ jokes in it! No way!" comments) or "Business as usual."

Again this is why people are trying to publicly murder comedians.

No one is getting murdered over this. What the hell are you even talking about. . .

Sadie was an amazingly written woman character in Red Dead Redemption II

Arguibly the better character in the game after Arthur

So chill

Big changes for the better at the studio? Superb, how can anyone be against it. But big changes to what made GTA, GTA? I guess we’ll see. But I sure hope they still make fun of stuff in the game.

I loved watching the ingame TV in 4 and 5 and those shows that made fun of ridiculous actual US reality shows and such.

The main single player story will probably be limited to a specific area of the map but as they expand the map over time these new areas could be used for the DLC content to further the single player story. At least that’s how I think they will approach the map expansion for the SP.

But there is no question the MP will probably be the main focus for this game.

while hardly controversial (especially in 5) the radio/ in game online satire was seriously dull in 4 and 5. sub South park jokes, nowhere near as funny as the early 3D era. So I don't see it as some huge crime that it's not going to be the focus anymore. as long as the story is still compelling with leger than life characters and has moment of levity that aren't cringe I don't really care.

I remember the amount of whining on forums back in the day about not being able to relate to a black character in CJ, and that ended up being one of the best selling games of that era.

I think the most concerning thing about this are the changes to the team and staff. Folks that have left, etc.

GTA was always crass, tongue in cheek, sarcastic, etc. ever since the first game. I feel like this may be the iteration that changes for a number of reasons.

Female protagonist? Sure! Whatever, I don't care what they are as long as the character is interesting. But we don't need some forced and pandered female role.

Overall I think I'm going to reserve any expectations until we see it in action, learn more about game mechanics, etc. Because right now, I really don't see what they could do to breath new life into the series. I think they've practically done everything they can, so I really don't know what they can do to make it feel VERY exciting and interesting. I feel like a lot of the standard GTA gameplay mechanics are so stale now.

I would like that, that would already be a big improvement over 5 that didn't receive any DLC. Honestly I was fully expecting just the SP and done, like 5 and RDR2 but if they give SP some more attention? Shit I'll take it. I'm also very happy to read about interiors. That's something I really miss in 5.

The all inclusive pseudo feminism gender neutral agenda will destroy another franchise. Well..if Netflix hasnt taught them anything maybe their sales will

Having a female protag in and of itself isnt an issue, the issue is the fact that in 2022 its all oh so predictable and pretty much confirms that this game is going to go the way we all think it will.

GTA has gone to shit but I am quite curious how the hooker thing will work with a female protag. Or will it be cut? The more I think, the more questions I have. Will there be male prostitutes, chaperones, or anything?

Yeah, I'll pass. It's not Rockstar anymore

Not wanting to punch down means you view yourself superior to those you don't want to make fun about.

Wanting to punch up means you view yourself inferior to those you want to make fun about.

Who does the new Rockstar view as inferior and superior in comparison to themselves?

  • Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature a playable female protagonist for the first time; she's a latina that is one of a pair of leading characters, influenced by Bonnie & Clyde
  • Working title Project Americas
  • Main location is a fictional version of Miami + its surrounding areas
  • Game will evolve over time, adding new cities
  • The game world is already large; more interior locations than prev. GTA games
The amount of work they're putting into the map is insane (but also expected considering they've been making it for 10 fucking years) but it makes me worry that this is going to be GTA Online 2. A more cynical version of me already pointed that out in the past but these days I'm REALLY worried. Rockstar, put out a trailer soon...!

GTA6? Is that the bonus game mode that comes bundled with GTA Online 2?

Timeout for a sec.

GTA 5 sold 160+ Million copies and some of you think that R* is going to give up on that kinda coin to please a base of people that don't buy their games in the first place?

Dinsey, Amazon, Netflix, etc. Tons of corporations with a lot of cash bend over backwards to please the Twitter crowds. Corporate America has decided that woke gives them the bigger ROI, I don't see why Rockstar would be any different

When the pandemic started, workers received care packages, cloth masks and surprise bonuses. During the protests over the death of George Floyd, a Black man who was murdered by police officers, the company said it would match donations to Black Lives Matter charities. Employees have been given new mental health and leave benefits. A new policy called "flexitime" allows staff to immediately take time off for every extra hour they work. And for the past four years, management has promised that excessive overtime won't be required for Grand Theft Auto VI, one of the most-highly anticipated games by fans and investors on the planet.

Sounds like a healthy, sane work environment to me..

also yeah GTA shouldn't give a shit about whatever the twitter mob thinks. These days there's so much more to make fun of, they should have more balls and not give a shit. GTAIV especially had the best commentary, felt like a game being written by a bunch of socialists at points
Having balls and not holding back is how your game gets remembered.

Just remove the one thing that made GTA what it is

I think the super detailed cities, fantastic soundtracks (well, other than 4) and the open world design with loads of neatly designed and emergent gameplay had a little something to do with it too, or it would have fallen by the wayside like loads of other "edgy" series did in the past,
