PS Plus most popular gaming service in US. Followed by Amazon Luna in 2nd, and Xbox Gamepass in 3rd.

Let me try:

If you generally include everything under the "Microsoft" umbrella, including Microsoft Windows and Office, Xbox is basically 100x bigger than the entire history of Playstation services combined.

yeah, hence I said Xbox not Microsoft lol

Statista is pretty reliable

https://www.statista.com/
Its a completely borked survey.
Aside from the low sample size, which is laughably low for something as big as gaming.
They also bundled a bunch of services together.

Bundling Amazon Prime with Luna is disingenuous because im sure most people who have Prime dont actually use Luna or even know that it comes free with prime, but they like the Prime deals....so they are forced to answer yes.
Im a Netflix subscriber.....I didnt even know they did games?

it is survey from May and only on 1099 people. There were lots of ps4 users than Xbox one users, next gen still is way behind these consoles, and ps plus is required to play online on playstation and it May it still was old version of it.

/end thread
Is this a joke I'm not getting? May was 2 months ago i don't think the number of PS4 and XB1 users or even PS5/XS have changed much since then. It is interesting that this was before the PS Plus revamp though.

Google Play Pass being bigger than Apple Arcade shook me to my core.

Well, not really, but I thought the iPhone was dominant in the US compared to Android's global lead.

Is that ps+ extra or just essential? Because obviously there are way more ps4/5 in homes than xbox one/series
It's every ps plus subscription. It's always going to be in top this way as they had around 45-50 millions of subscribers for just psplus before. It's not a surprise considering you need it for online play and cloud saves for savefiles. I doubt they'll disclose subscribers across tiers.

Lol I said this is what they would do. Master class PR.

Where would Xbox Gamepass be if they renamed a lower tier and included Xbox Live? Is there a known sub count for XBL?

AFAIK live gold had around 20-25 millions of subscribers, but only Microsoft knows where it's now as they only talk about gamepass for some time. It would probably still be below psplus considering they have smaller number of consoles out there, but they'd be much closer than like this.

News flash! That's how polls are conducted. Please try to read about this a bit, before jumping into conclusions and showing that you have zero knowledge on the subject, by saying 1099 people is not enough

Good to know. I'll be taking them with a grain of salt from here on out. Where are the official numbers? We know Game Pass has at least 25 mil subs, what are the numbers for the others? That would be useful info, not this shit lol

Netflix has games? Do they mean those interactive movies? If not, what are some good games over there?

That Luna placement is utter bullshit :messenger_tears_of_joy:

This chart should really only take into account the parts of Luna that require an active subscription (Like PS Plus and GamePass) - not just the Prime Gaming part of it. Every cunt in America with a Prime subscription is technically a Luna subscriber, if you're counting that.

Should anyone be any doubt that Luna is still actually a small scale, niche product right now, you need only look at the fact Amazon haven't even announced an intention to role it out to any other countries.

PS+ is required to fully utilize the functionality of a PS4/PS5. I don't know if "popularity" is the word I would use for the service. "Tax" or "Maintenance Fee" are more appropriate. Same for NSO and XBL.

The wording on the survey is weird, why would they list "PS+" which is required to play online on a PS, but then list the MS offering as "Gamepass", which is not required to play online? :lollipop_neutral:
Why not follow their own format and say "XBL Gold/Gamepass"?

maybe done by people who really have no idea about the gaming landscape. wouldn't surprise me

Fixed it for you.

Gamepass being even that close to PS considering how many PS4s are out there is a pretty amazing number imo
Microsoft is in the third spot for its collection of services such as Xbox/PC Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. 37% of gamers surveyed said they had used one or more of these services during the past year. In the fourth spot, Google Play Pass was also used by 37% of the survey base during the past year.

1100 users is not a "low sample size." Do you have any evidence that surveys on consumers of game related content needs to be larger than that? There is no catch-all for sample sizes and I'm going to give Statista the benefit of the doubt that they actually employed best practices when designing and conducting the survey.

They are looking at the penetration of these services, so yes, counting everyone who has access to these services is entirely appropriate.

The ESA does surveys with literally 4 times the number of people and i still consider that pretty low.
There are well over 100 million gamers in the US....asking 1000 would put the margin of error high enough that the top 3 or 4 answers could all switch places.
Lets say margin of error is 5% (im too lazy to actually do the margin of error calculation and statista doesnt give us their margin of error)
+/-5% on the top 3 could completely change the order, which pretty much tells you your sample size is too small as no real workable data could be gotten from it.

But it says MORE on the list. Not sure why you are confused:

Who says I'm confused?
I said the wording doesn't conform to the format they are using for Sony; they put PS+ (required for online play) as the primary listed, but for MS they decided to use Game pass as the primary listed (not required for online play).

I guess you're not a statistician then.

Our subjective opinion on statistical methodology shouldn't count as much as objective statistical best practices. If you can show why 1100 users sampled (particularly if good sampling has been done) isn't enough for this topic I'm all ears.

That's not at all how that works.

It absolutely does not (at least not as a matter of course).

. . .and not for nothing, if the interpretation of that chart is that "SONY wins. . ." instead of "Game streaming capacity of major companies is doing pretty well" then perhaps you're not reading with as impartial eyes as you think.

What a BS stat. Luna lol, I've known about Luna for quite a while and if your a Prime member you get "free" PC games and I have downloaded a few of those but this is highly disingenuous.

Hate when statisticians manipulate data that is technically correct but it's sole purpose is to mislead the public. Makes you feel like you can't believe anything.

I've seen several companies doing this. Maybe I'm a bit old school but I tend to live by the old saying "it is what it is and nothing more"

Lolol I have seen some corporate twisted statistics before but Luna #2 is like claiming cigarettes are good for you. All smoke and mirrors for investors.

something i recently noticed......EA Play sucks on playstation. Theres like 5 games on there. compared to the 80 something on the xbox version. And on Xbox its folded into gamepass. wth are they doing
