Batgirl Will Not Be Released In Theaters Or On HBO Max As Warner Bros. Scraps Completed $90 Million Movie

The company brand. The brand of putting out higher quality product that makes money, clearly. All these non-releases don’t align with their goals.

So you are going to listen to speculation that it was then? My-my you are very selective, and either can’t escape the clutches of your narrative bias, or just can’t stop speculating.

But the issue here is that they told us the motherfucking reasons already, which is why I said focus on the business side and not anti/pro woke narratives.

They told us the top level reasons. Not the detailed ones. So we're all speculating about the detailed reasons.

Also, when talking to me, watch your "motherfucking" mouth.

It gets better. The rumour from a few sources is that they're going to go with a three tier subscription system like Peacock - premium, standard, free. The free tier would probably mean adverts in the middle of all your favourite HBO shows...

Are you invested in how Dolores can break free from her pre-programmed host loop? Never mind that! Here's an advert for Honey Nut Loops!

those top level reasons are the reasons. The CEO is moving the company in a new direction, and everything they do is to work towards that direction.

When they say they only want to release x type of movies, and they evaluate movie y and see that it is completely unaligned with their objectives. If they are willing to communicate to shareholders about big sums of money lost from non-released titles that don’t fit their standards, then they are dead serious about the reasoning.

Trying to make other reasonings than what they is completely pointless here. They are saying what they are thinking, what they mean.

So yes. We know the top level reasons. It was received poorly.

But why was the film received so poorly? Since they're not giving details about that, we are all giving our thoughts on what those reasons may be. Using a discussion board to, you know... discuss.

All we know is that it had quality issues, which is unsurprisingly why some people want to promote and exploit their favorite narratives with speculation that doesn’t matter.

And by the way, cancelling bad movies is the same as protecting the batgirl and DC brand, because that’s one less “poor quality, low seller” movie in the pile according to them.

Its funny people are suggesting that this was canned because of its quality. Becaus WB has been known for their high quality standards in the last few years. Who could forget masterpieces like Suicide Squad, BvS and Fantastic Beast 3(which i didn't see but have heard nothing good about)

Indeed. Feels much more like it was shit-canned because Zaslav just doesn't want any movies made for streaming. It probably is absolutely awful, but under any other regime it would have still been released.

You mean Warner Bros Discovery who merged in April 2022, with a new CEO/leadership and everything. Totally they will do everything exactly the same.

I dunno if this protect brand excuse sounds as plausible as you think. Batgirl never was that much of big deal, so I feel like she would have fair space to shiny in this movie or even if the movie it self wasn't half as bad people would still not care much about it, unless you consider the twitter clowns.

Now if you're talking about Batman, Wonder-woman and other popular and well know super heroes then I would agree.
Like, most of people where I live didn't even know Batgirl movie was a thing. Batgirl could bomb for all people care, the big hits would not be harmed by her performance.

Reading an exchange like this on a motherfucking forum made me laugh, relax man.
Note the quotes around the word. I was sort of "holding up the mirror" to him so he could see how worked up he was getting.

At the end of the day, it's like Fake Fake said -- this is not Twitter. No matter how much I disagree with people here, I will give them a base level of respect, and I expect to be shown the same level of respect in return.

Probably some internal politics going on which haven't leaked... Speculating: It looks like new WB management is laying the hammer down on the DCEU being dragged down by activist laced stories and while I'm sure the movie was really bad for them to take a 100M loss, this'll not only scare senior management who survived the recent purge, but anyone who gets hired now will know that the top brass prefers crowd pleaser instead of movies which market to a subset of the western market.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are horrible directors anyway, they made trash in Belgium and then Bad Boys 3 which was almost unwatcheable. I think we dodged one here.

Warner Bros. definitely needs to dig themselves out of a hole with their DC offerings. I have a great movie idea for them which will give them some good PR as well as bring back all the fans. Jared Leto's Joker has neutralized Supeman, Batman, Aquaman and Wonderwoman. So Ezra Miller's Flash, Amber Heard's Aquagirl, and Will Smith's Deadshot team up to fight endless waves of cgi minions in a darkly lit cgi landscape. Jared Leto snears and cackles between fights. Crowd pleasing fan service moments come in the form of Will Smith slapping all of his costars at various times throughout the movie.

Amber Heard has to shit on Will Smith’s bed, otherwise a hard pass.

The only reason the two guys that directed this even ever got famous was because of their Muslim background. The two movies I saw from them that they made here in Belgium were abysmal. It came as a surprise to everyone here that they were chosen to do big Hollywood productions (imo also with horrible results but it seems some people like this shit, that's cool but also misguided). I hope we are rid of Adil and Fallal for good now. I read on a local news site that they are still hoping this movie gets released, Inch'Allah.

I hope a copy leaks. Something seemingly this bad could possibly cross over into "so bad it's good" territory.

Can't say WB will follow the same stupid as Sony did with Morbius, but yeah I kinda agree that the movie will get leaked some time later.

I thought the joke was more about women drivers.

Pffth, based on my experience, I’d trust a one-eyed woman behind the wheel than plenty of dudes. Virtually every guy in my high school did like 30 over the speed limit constantly. Even in my late 20’s, one of my friends I didn’t feel comfortable being in a car he was driving, dude drove a bit too recklessly in parking lots and such. Thankfully he got better about that, but the high school guys, who knows. I feel either a cop pulls them over and scares them straight, or they keep feeling enabled with a “no one got hurt yet” attitude which just means when it inevitably does happen it could get even worse depending if they got more reckless.

And in terms of specifically backing up, well Jerry Seinfeld’s standup once brought up how a lot of old people just back up their car without giving much of a shit of who’s in their way. So that’s what it made me think about it.

That is why younger men have higher insurance rates than women. They tend to be reckless drivers.

Plus, it was just an excuse to reference a great episode of South Park. I just love Randy in this one.

Randy: Sharon, where’s Dad?
Sharon: Oh, he had a meeting at the breakfast place he likes with all the seniors in town.
Randy: Oh, okay…wait, so that means every single senior in South Park will be leaving there at the same time…where’s Stan?!

(Randy is running across the field to the boys who are playing hockey on the street)
Cartman: Hey, who’s that in the distance?
Kyle: Stan, I think it’s your dad.
Randy: AAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Kyle: He’s yelling something.
Cartman: Looks like Stan’s dad is hitting the bottle again.
Randy: AAAAAAGETAAAAAAASTREET!!!
Cartman: We can’t understand you!
Stan: Wait, what‘s that coming down the road?
(an army of out of control senior drivers head straight toward them)
Kyle: RUN!
Randy: GET OFF THE STREET! OLD PEOPLE ARE DRIVING!

And then it becomes practically a horror movie, LOL.

“That is the baffling thing,” Smith said. “I don’t give a shit how bad the ‘Batgirl’ movie is, nobody in that movie is complicated or has anything in their real life you have to market around. In ‘The Flash’ movie, we all know there’s a big problem! Flash is the Reverse-Flash in real life.”

Huh, looked like a lot of practical effects, I'm surprised they could use all that fire in a town.

Was the flip over the bike a way for the stuntman to make it look like she was flung off the bike and rolled away? So much of moviemaking looks so silly out of context and without the tight editing.

I saw someone over Twitter saying that the actress not even appear in most of the scenes.
In an action role it wouldn't surprise me at all. No way the lead actress would be riding around in a motorcycle or running around all that fire. The main side benefit of those masks is you can easily use standins.

"Warner Bros Discovery is “committed to making DC titles big theatrical event films, and ‘BATGIRL’ isn’t that.”
The plague of modern life - everything has to be BIG, LARGE, AWESOME. There is no time nor place for quiet reflection. Social media will be looked upon in 50 years as truly a destructive force for the society.

We need a middling bat girl. Doing average things like stopping pick pockets. Meeting a super villain and saying “that is a job for Batman”.

One of the reasons I'm pretty glad this got shit-canned. I very much doubt in the current climate that Batgirl would be portrayed the way she's always been in the comics: subordinate to Batman. Just like Nightwing, Red Hood, Huntress etc. It probably wouldn't have gone as far as the vomit inducing 'when it's made for a woman' horseshit from that Batwoman show, but I doubt they would have had Leslie Grace being ordered around by Michael Keaton - which would have been the comic accurate depiction.
