We’re excited to return to gamescom in Cologne, Germany this August and hang out in person with the community for the first time since 2019!

We’re really looking forward to being back on the show floor, bringing our passionate fans together again in person to celebrate what’s ahead at Xbox. At gamescom 2022, whether attending the show or watching the Xbox Booth @ gamescom Live Stream from home, fans in Europe and around the world can expect a little more insight into some of our previously announced games coming to Xbox in the next 12 months.

We’re also very pleased to announce the return of Xbox FanFest to the show floor. More details on this and everything else we’re up to at gamescom 2022, can be found below. Here’s what to expect.

Xbox Booth

This year the Xbox booth will be back in Hall 8 and will feature 36 stations with a fantastic line-up of content coming to Xbox in the next 12 months, many of which will arrive on Game Pass on day one.

For those attending in person, you will be able to go hands-on with some of the latest games and updates from Xbox Game Studios, including:

  • Pentiment (Obsidian Entertainment / Xbox Game Studios)
  • Age of Empires IV (Relic Entertainment & World’s Edge / Xbox Game Studios)
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator (Asobo Studio / Xbox Game Studios Publishing)
  • Sea of Thieves (Rare Games / Xbox Game Studios)
  • Grounded (Obsidian Entertainment / Xbox Game Studios)
We will be celebrating some of our third-party partners too, with playable titles on the booth including:

  • A Plague Tale: Requiem (Asobo Studio / Focus Entertainment)
  • Disney Dreamlight Valley (Gameloft)
  • Gunfire Reborn (Duoyi Games / 505 Games)

  • Planet of Lana (Wishfully / Thunderful)
  • You Suck at Parking (Happy Volcano)
Visitors to the booth will also be able to get hands-on with the new Xbox App on the latest 2022 Samsung Smart TV, part of our mission to empower everyone to play the games they want, with the people they want, anywhere they want.

In addition to getting hands-on with the latest games, attendees will have the chance to become a video game hero with some amazing photo opportunities. You’ll be able to…

  • Come face-to-face with the first boss from Grounded, the Broodmother, a larger-than-life spider 5 meters (17 feet) wide who is looking forward to getting a selfie with you
  • Walk the plank with Sea of Thieves
  • Fight the Piglins with Minecraft Legends
  • Storm the battlefield with Age of Empires IV
  • Take a selfie with Starfield’s robot companion, VASCO
We can’t wait to see what you get up to.

Xbox remains committed to the belief that gaming should be safe, inclusive, and accessible for all. That’s why we’re ensuring that Xbox Adaptive Controllers will be available on request and all areas of the booth will be wheelchair accessible. Additionally, easily identifiable American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign Language (BSL), and German Sign Language (DGS) interpreters, as well as “Here to Help” staff, will be available to assist players of all abilities.

We are also pleased to announce that Xbox is an official partner of “gamescom goes green” and we have made a voluntary climate contribution to ClimatePartner to offset the CO2 consumption of our show floor presence. We are also committed to the prevention of waste in the design, presence and breakdown of the Xbox booth itself. All of this forms part of Xbox’s commitment to our players and the industry to work tirelessly to reduce our environmental impact in a responsible way.

You will be able to find us at Hall 8 of the Koelnmesse, North entrance. Come hang out with Team Xbox!

Disappointingly weak lineup. Excited to see more of Lies of P, but the rest is pretty meh.

Unlike most ppl, I kind of enjoyed their E3 focusing on games in the next 12 months. Was getting a bit burned out from hyping games that are 3-5(-never) years out that inevitably fall short of the hype they originally gained.

Having said that, Gamescom was a chance to show a little more of the future. Or atleast one of these events should be focused on the short term and the other on the long term. Fact is, this lineup is quite trashy. If you want people to buy your console this is not how you do it. I'm usually against showing a vertical slice of a game thats still a ways off but they are desperate for standout AAA games. Show Hellblade 2, show Fable, show Avowed. They need to give people a reason to hope, a reason to be excited and a reason to buy an Xbox.

Compared with their closest rivals, their next 12 months looks like complete garbage. And it does not give me any pleasure to say that.

I like Xbox and I like what Microsoft is bringing to this industry. But I agree. They’re getting ridiculed by the competition right now. They need to show something cool and promising. After getting PS+ Premium I don’t think Gamepass is enough, besides the 1st party day 1 releases (of which there are none anyway) the services are very very similar.

While I admire them for actually showing up to these industry events unlike Sony, I am kinda done with Microsoft's idea of a conference/show. Quantity over quality. 90% of those games have already been released. Where is perfect dark? fable? state of decay? hellblade? gears? everwild? These are games you showed 2-3 years ago. Can we maybe see what they play like?

If not E3, if not gamescom, then when? Year after year I get my hopes up that MS will come and fill in the gap left by a MIA Sony, and year after year MS manages to fumble and just simply blow it. If it wasnt for Starfield, the E3 conference wouldve had just one next gen game from their first party... Forza. Thats it. Simply unacceptable from what is now the biggest first party publisher.

With Sony stumbling with cross gen games and underwhelming next gen only games like TLOU, GHostwire and Deathloop, this was Microsoft's chance to show us the future. Forget releases, just show us something that can only be done on next gen consoles. Have your Matrix moment. Do something. I guess Hellblade 2 last year was supposed to be that game, but it looked like that game was on autopilot. Still, id rather have that then this fucking lineup. Lets go. It's time to excite your userbase. Streaming numbers are down 62% this year. Sales are down roughly 25%. Players are tuning out and moving on. This is the time to strike and have the E3 2015 show Sony used to inject new life into that gen.

Games nowadays take 5-6 years to make without crunching, and the last time they showed unpolished gameplay they got crucified with Craig memes.

Devs are in a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situation when it comes to announcing things when development starts. Show things as they are as development progresses, and people say it looks like shit. Don't show anything until it's ready, and people say it's in trouble. The only solution is what they're doing now, and not even telling people a project exists until it's a year out.

Every single one of those games you mentioned had a CG trailer thrown together before development even got past the concept stage. Are you really telling me you want pre-alpha footage in a big showcase, really?

Yup getting pretty tired about the current approach MS seems to have.
This "next 12 months" garbage isnt working and i can see games from that timeframe getting delayed anyway. So why not show shit you announced freaking 2 years ago...
Oh and Halo Infinite and its live service still being MiA is hilarious.
MS so far has really disappointed me this Generation.
Sony sadly isnt doing better.

Many users on this forum don't really know what they want.

If we see CG announcement trailers: "Lol this isn't coming out till 5 years"
If we see trailers for games coming out in 12 months: "Lol what about those older projects that had CG trailers ?"
If we see early alpha game play "Lol that looked like shit, can't believe they're putting it out like that".

It really is a damned if anyone does, damned if anyone doesn't situation for these developers.

ok. 5-6 years. Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Playground Games, and Obsidian were acquired in 2018. It's been over 4 years. Why cant they at least have a gameplay demo ready in 4 years if they game is taking 5 years to make.

Is it the lack of resources? Clearly not considering MS just spend $80 billion on zenimax and activision. i really dont want to hear excuses. Maybe dont show CG trailers during your next gen reveal??

Exactly. So they had a CG trailer up 2 years ago and two years later, they werent able to get a gameplay demo ready? Are these indie studios that dont have any resources? no. Its fucking Microsoft. And the blank check version of Microsoft too. actually, everwild was shown in 2019. it's been 3 years and no gameplay??

They clearly made a mistake announcing these titles the moment they entered the concept phase, but you're still complaining after they corrected that mistake with this past showcase being limited to 12 months out. You seem to not want CG concept announcements, unpolished footage, or them staying silent until it's ready to show. I'm just trying to figure out what you actually do want, because you have to choose one of them here in the real world.

Rare in general isnt so hot anymore. They really lost it with their early access full price game SoT and forgot how to produce full games in time it seems like. (A general issue at MS 1st party studios)

Really getting tired seeing excuses for MS and their announced games being a no show at every major event this year.

It's not rocket science. I literally said what I want in the post you quoted immediately after the sentence you bolded.
These are games you showed 2-3 years ago. Can we maybe see what they play like?

They announced their next gen consoles in 2018. it's been 4 fucking years. They announced their acquistions 4 years ago. it's time to see stuff in action. Not in CG form. 4 years is a long fucking time.

What is this new studio called "Rare Games" I never heard of it. Why did they take SoT from Rare?

At least Rare can put more manpower into Everwild now that Rare Games is responsible for SoT.

Fair enough, but there's a reason devs generally don't promote alpha footage, and I would hope that sentiment of wanting devs to show early footage long before being ready to show extends to the entire industry.

I remember the pre-E3 2022 conference thread and the number 1 request was not to show stuff that is a couple years away from release.

I think this is one of those situations where you can’t please everyone.

Just do both. Proper gameplay trailers for games coming in 12 months and virtual slice target renderd or mix of CG and gameplay for games coming further away. In some cases even a logo would be enough just to get a hint of what’s coming. And talk about the targetted platforms. Are we getting a new Doom game exclusive to Xbox Series X/S? Is Rare working on a new Viva Pinata? Conker? Banjo? Is there a new Killer Instinct coming? Can we get a peek at Fable? Will we get a new Gears Tactics? Is the Ori IP dead? What’s Compulsion doing? And Double Fine? Is inXile doing another Wasteland? Is another Bard’s Tale coming? What’s Arkane doing after Redfall? How’s Perfect Dark coming along? State of Decay 3? Project Mara? When will MS buy Asobo? Etc

There is so much they could say and show that would make this down period seem less problematic.

Their big games this year is a low budget RPG and two last year’s PS exclusives.

Same year that Sony have Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Remake and God of War Ragnarök.

Same year that Nintendo have Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3 and Pokémon Scarlet/Violet.

Delays happen, it is what it is. They've released some great games in the last 12 months and theres loads coming up in the next 12.

GT7 and Horizon where let downs for me personally. If they were not delayed from the year before then Sony's output this year would have almost been as bad as MS'. Interested to see what sony has cooking as it stands they will be in the same spot after GOW with nothing officially on the slate yet as far as I know

GOW2 Bayonetta3(if it ever comes out) and MW2 hopefully bring the goods to close out a very below average year Big hitters wise.

for AAA players; it's not good until Starfield and Forza come out. Still plenty of games personally but feel sorry for some consumers.

Delays do happen and it’s better to delay than release a subpar product, no doubt. But they need to stop having all eggs in one basket. The same thing happened at the launch when Halo was delayed. It’s just tiresome to see them lose momentum when they have a good thing going with Gamepass and day 1 releases and PC ports and all that. They’re doing so many great things but they stumble way too often imo.

Not really, even considering what we do know Sony have PSVR2 launch with those new games (new Horizon game), they have Spider-Man 2 announced and massive 3rd party titles like Final Fantasy XVI, Forspoken, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Plus they’re all ‘next gen’ exclusives

Even if they don’t announce another game thats still a far better year than this year on xbox, and probably the previous year on both xbox and playstation

Spiderman 2 doesn't have a release date as far as i know and the rest you mentioned aren't made by Sony? So pretty shitty as of right now. Hopefully they have a state of play soon and show the goods as most of their big hitters have put out games over the last couple of years and we all know how long game dev takes these days.

Besides good luck playing XVI anytime soon.

Edit: Didn't realize PSVR2 was out this year, might get on that for xmas shenanigans with the family.

fucking easy ass skip.

clarky clarky I mean....they not wrong. Its been a meh year for them while Switch and PS are getting massive heavy hitters, but for MS they are in a transition of building and preparing for years to come. It makes sense to delay what needs to be delayed and prepare for a solid year, not a rushed year.

So Fredrik Fredrik is spitting facts here. Folks who own Switch or PS4 or PS5 are having a year with some massive titles for what that install base likes, where XB install base will have to wait next year for those massive titles. I don't see that as a thing to be mad at either as...this fits what many are seeing, but its just the delay of the pandemic, buying those studios, next gen starting etc.

They clearly made a mistake announcing these titles the moment they entered the concept phase

I actually disagree.

I think it made sense for what MS was doing, to make those reveals.

If they already bought those teams, lets say during the 360 gen or start of the XONE generation, then sure...I'd say they shouldn't do that, but after the XONE gen with such a flop, it make sense to buy those teams and make your argument to buy the next XB or ecosystem like a Windows PC or something, early and hit HARD! They need to let people know its not a open and done case, PS5 won't be a easy day 1 cuz look

Fable coming
Avowed coming
Outerworld 2 coming
Perfect Dark coming
Hellblade 2 coming

etc

They need that push so gamers know its not just about this year, but the whole generation is a investment. They need to show you what you are missing if you buy a PS. I get why MS did all that and it would be fucking stupid if they didn't. Lets say MS buys all those teams and don't say or show shit for years until those games are ready.

During that time, we get God Of War, Horizon 2, The Last Of Us remake, Spiderman 2, FFXVI and many more and folks have deeply invested in PS, when those other titles come out, its asking them to spend the money on a Series X or windows PC...ON TOP of those games....orrrr buy The Last Of Us Part 3 and KH4 and Horizon Twilight of The East part 3 lol Those 3 games might be easier for them to take, then all that money spent to get the platform to play 1 game.

Thats literally what could happen if MS doesn't tell folks NOW they have plans for shit and here it is lol MS needs to make it a dog fight, they need to market why this gen is different and why you should think about siding with them too or something. I think its a bad idea to hold on to that content and not say shit in this crucial transition for MS.

Sony doesn't need to do any of that shit. They are several gens of dominating and folks already know what to expect from a PS generation, what to expect from a MS generation if citing the past ones isn't good, its actually dumb to just allow THAT image to sit while people invest in PS until those games are done, thus MS needs to market that this time will be different.

It just so happens that it also means they must show you why. I agree that next gen they shouldn't do this though, but I get why they are doing this now.

Really makes you think.

I can't imagine they would make an announcement of such magnitude on a livestream without hyping it up properly.
No "expect great announcements" or "look forward to multiple world premieres"?
Then hardly anyone will watch (in comparison to a hyped up event) - and for the few viewers you wouldn't waste any megatons.
