You would need the following components to build the PC:

Motherboard - $75
CPU - $50
CPU Cooler - $25
Thermal Paste - $10
RAM - $50
GPU - $250 to $300
Power Supply - $50
SSD - $50
Case - $25
Case Fans (this isn't 100% necessary depending on the type of case and if there are built-in fans with it) - $0
Keyboard - $10
Mouse - $10
Operating System - $0

An RTX 2060 Super by itself would cost between $250 to $350. An RTX 2060 Super is barely more powerful than the PS5, and a regular RTX 2060 is not as powerful as the PS5. That is half of your budget in the first component. Just the cost of the motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, thermal past, RAM, GPU, and PSU puts you over your $500 budget. That is a total of $510, and we haven't even factored in a case, case fans, keyboard and mouse (which are a requirement for PC), or an operating system.

Additionally, all of the components above are used. This means that you're getting the leftovers that generally have no warranty and you're S.o.L. if they fail during or after your build is complete. There is zero peace of mind for someone building this system. By contrast, there is peace of mind by purchasing a PS5 or Xbox Series X instead. I'm a PC gamer, and what you're saying is not only patently false (you can't get the components you need at the price point you said), but even if you could get close I would never recommend this to someone wanting to jump into PC gaming.

PC gaming is awesome. But it's an expensive hobby. You get what you pay for (generally speaking), and your statement will get someone a garbage setup with sub-par performance. And on top of that, it's extremely risky as so many of these individual pre-owned components could fail and cause a ton of headache.
As someone who games exclusively on the PC, you're smoking some good shit. Try TRIPLING those prices and then you've got a decent system.

PC gaming used to represent good value for money. Now it's fucking retarded.

In which world RTX 2060S is more powerful than PS5? It has substantially lower compute, fill and rasterization rates besides other things. Are you talking about RT performance in isolation ?

in many games the 2060 super performs close to the PS5.

Watch Dogs Legion for example is in the 60fps ballpark at 1440p with the very high preset or a mix of optimised settings to roughly match consoles

in many games you will need to use DLSS Quality mode (which you should use most of the time anyways) to get to PS5 performance, but even then that's not bad I'd say.

but yeah, turn on RT and it's a different story

Get out of your freaking cave. Prices are back close to MSRP. And even not much higher of MSRP, for everything this gaming machine can do, it's cheap af.

I‘ve Platinumed the console version but I’ll definitely grab this in a Steam or EGS sale. Whoever gets it to $25 first.

Well, the PS4 version didn't... it's the PS5 Remastered version that did.

I dont know anything about building PCs, but have bought new mice in the past. And in that section there's keyboards.

You can get decent mice and KB for $10 each?

You're full of shit.

Your comment was as useless as you are.

PC gaming used to represent good value for money. Now it's fucking retarded.

My post was in response to someone who said you can get better performance than a PS5 out of a $500 PC build. My entire post was disproving what they said. I never said that what I posted was a good build. In fact, if you would have read my post you would see that I said the opposite. I am unclear on what exactly you were calling me out on.

In which world RTX 2060S is more powerful than PS5? It has substantially lower compute, fill and rasterization rates besides other things. Are you talking about RT performance in isolation ?

It was the cheapest RTX card that is comparable to the PS5. It's not a 1:1 comparison, and either way my purpose was to disprove the person who said a $500 PC build could beat out the performance of a PS5. Even if a 2060 Super could beat out the performance of a PS5 (I'm not dying on that hill) he was still wrong.

I dont know anything about building PCs, but have bought new mice in the past. And in that section there's keyboards.

Nothing in my post was regarding "decent" hardware. My post was solely regarding finding hardware at the cheapest possible price point that could POSSIBLY match/beat the PS5 in terms of performance. The cheapest possible price point means buying used parts. You could certainly find a used keyboard and mouse for $10 each, and possibly cheaper. In all likelihood they won't be decent though.

To everyone I commented to, it seems like most of you missed the purpose of my post. I wasn't agreeing with the person I replied to. I was proving to them how wrong they were by finding the cheapest possible setup (which meant looking up the price of used components on eBay), and I still proved that the PS5/XSX provide better performance and value as opposed to a $500 PC build. I am a PC gamer with a high-end PC, a Nintendo Switch, a PS5, and an XSX. I know what I'm talking about.

what a coincidence, Alex used the 2060S in todays SpiderMan video, and the card can keep up with the PS5 very well
and that's without DLSS which would not only boost performance but also give you better image quality.

when you spend 3 grand on a monster rig it becomes compulsory to stare and nitpick at reflections and stuff

Yeah I do the same. Only thing is I don't usually buy a game on more than one system unless it's a banger. So don't really ever get into the whole compare and contrast thing.

Yeah, I checked out the reflections for a few minutes because it was the first RT game I played (MM on PS5, the original I played on PS4 Pro), but then I just played the game. Having proper reflections does add something when you're swinging through the city VS static cubemaps, so I played in RT Performance mode, but the relatively low reflection quality never bothered me one bit. It's something that only really becomes noticeable when you're right up against a shiny building and looking for it, it doesn't matter during regular gameplay.

I'm sure if the reflections/etc. weren't there at all it would really take away from the experience.

I guess my take is that since you're moving though, most people probably don't stop to appreciate it. I'd have to play it on PC to really see how it feels though. Maybe it does hit different having higher fidelity reflections.

I was debating whether I should pick this up at launch since I'm knee deep in MGSV right now, and I just got a PS5 and I've been playing Miles Morales through PS+. In the end I couldn't resist getting it to have on Steam Deck. Looking forward to trying it out here in a little bit.

In what planet is paying £550 for a GPU a good deal?

CPU prices have shot up.

Motherboard prices are equally as insane. My motherboard cost £200.

In the planet where they are not limited to be worthy running some few exclusives only.

They had? Not here in my 4th world country last time I saw.

Where did I say it was anything else? Still, very unimpressive.

You're in a hype thread on launch day. With high praise reviews, downplaying the game's sales, and saying you're unimpressed by speculative numbers it may or may not reach; because of some console warrior comparison.

Less than 1 day on the market and you are here complaining and sperging out about the clarity of your statements.

Scarcity tactics and other strateguies to manipulate the perception of value of graphics cards have worked particularly well in the last 10 years. I used to buy high end cards every generation, but they have crossed the line, buying only second hand now.

I don't even know what you are trying to imply. I think the game is great and I expected it to do a lot better at release, what is wrong with that? There just seem to be very little demand for these Sony games on PC and that is surprising to me.

Either PC gamers don't care very much for these games or they are being massively pirated, probably a little bit of both.

I used to spend £200-250 on a high end GPU - this was enough to allow me to max out a game at each respective console generation. Last card I purchased prior to my 2070 Super (£550) was the GTX 970 (£200). Allowed me to play 1080p60 for every single PS3 title. How good is that?

Sad that we will never return to reasonable GPU prices again.

I look forward to prices of the RTX 4000 series. /s

It can keep up well when your pairing it with a 12900k yes…

Did Alex test the modes with uncapped framerate from vrr?

no but those really only go above the original target framerate if you are swinging high above ground.

as soon as you go down to street level you are in the 65 to 70 fps territory.
the 40fps mode unlocked is like 45 to 50fps on street level

that's from my findings (which I posted some clips of on this forum I think)

I thought at first you were posting console screenshots, but I had to re-look at your post again and watch the youtube footage. This is the PC version, it's underwhelming as fuck, god damn.

At 4:55 in the night time footage, is the reflection in the car running at single digit frames? That looks really bad man.

There's no way these are max settings, crazy. Where are the fucking shadows?

Decided to mess around with RT on Steam Deck. Using FSR 2.0 with dynamic res, mostly low settings, and RT High(object detail 2) you can hold 30fps pretty good swinging around the city. The cutscenes and combat sequences will bring it down to ~25fps, with occasional stutters into the teens...

Yah, Sony already have the sales and data and deemed them to be successful to continue increasing the effort and make them better than PS5, so these people are really just wasting their effort trying to downplay the success.

Why would you mix a high end CPU with a crappy gpu…
Because of the massive GPU shortage that went on for what, like two years?

I'm personally still on a 1080 Ti purchased right around its launch because of it. I was able to upgrade my CPU, motherboard, and RAM in the past year, but the inflated prices and lack of stock made the GPU a no-go. At this point, I'm waiting for the 40xx series to come out to get one of those or a 30xx series for cheap.
