So, my friend just lent me his Switch

At this point there is literally no reason to buy a third party game that is verified by Deck if the said person owns a Deck, better performance, cheaper price (soon the games price different adds up that would out cost the Deck itself), better customizability, more input choice, mods, etc. and now its also portable. Most of all Deck is easily adjustable to save battery life. For me, after getting the Deck, Switch is only there to play the exclusives. Even connecting to TV Deck is easier, a HDMI cable takes less weight and less space than a Dock if you are carrying around in your bag on a trip.
Fairly sure even the exclusives are running well on the Deck with Yuzu.

Got a Switch lite thinking it would be great to have something portable only to hate it's tiny screen and game prices just being shitty. Personally I'd just go with a Steam Deck since you get to have that portability, huge flexibility in games, and so much more.
The Deck is 5 times bigger than the Switch Lite in terms of volume, you can’t compare the portability.

It’s more powerful of course.

More likely than not both are going to be in a case so it's rather moot. We're long past the days of something small just slipping into a regular pocket.

Grabbed an OLED myself last month and I love the damn thing as a complementary platform to my Series X

Been playing the heck out of Disgaea lately.

Can't recommend getting an 8bitdo Pro 2 controller. The one which looks like a SNES Dualshock

Cool system

At this point, personally, I would buy a cheap lite model until switch2 comes out.

You won't miss any fun by not having Oled. The only drawback is no tv mode.

I don't play very many games anymore, but the Switch has, by far, given me the most joy since the PS2 /XBX/GCN era.

Between all the incredible JRPGs, BotW, Xenoblade and others, it's the best console currently on the market.

In no scenario is waiting for an unannounced system the right move. If you want something just buy it. Switch is good enough to risk getting shafted on a new model potentially.

Matter of perspective but to me it was the reason why I didn’t buy a Deck, it’s just too fucking big for a daily commute.

Whether it matters to people or not, the fact remains it’s over five times bigger, at least twice as expensive and over twice as heavy as a Switch Lite.

And I hate Sony for abandoning the Vita..

But seriously, I’m impressed by this little machine the sound that the joycons make when they attach. 1 2 switch was great fun with the family who are not gamers…

I also tried Metroid Dread, and OMG what an amazing game it is… ( I have already played Super, Zero, and Fusion)

I think I might need a switch to complement my PS5…

So I ask you, gaf what should I get for the switch if I plan to buy one? Should go for the V2 or the Oled model?

Regarding the games, I already have 3 games in mind: Zelda Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and of course Metroid Dread.

Is there something to know before buying a Switch? drift issues? Joycons having issues connecting etc…

As a PlayStation only gamer, I have to say that I’m very excited for the idea of buying a Switch 💋
If you do jump in, lemme know. Happy to accelerate your game collection as I'm dippin' out.

And I'd happily deal with the extra cost and size for a beefier machine that doesn't have to deal with the problems the Switch does. Maybe that'll be less of an issue with the Switch 2, but that's not here yet.

I see we're still doing the console warrior thing. Boy do you look tough and awesome. How can I be like you?
Seriously. What is this, 2002? I was in middle school back then when the GC/Xbox/PS2 shit was going on. Childish as hell. We're all adults now. It's okay to enjoy things, even if the experience is different depending on hardware.

Not to say that you should be glad to play ANYTHING on Switch. There are games that run and look better on PC to the point where it does impact enjoyment, but the experience is still objective.

Anyway, OP you should look out for some of the better Switch exclusives. If you're okay with 2D indies and "sports lite" games, I recommend Golf Story. It's a golf RPG in the vein of Mario Golf on the Gameboy Color. The developer Sidebar Games is currently making a pseudo-sequel called Sports Story which has been continuously delayed because they keep coming up with more ideas. It's gonna be great.

Buy Binbock JoyCon replacements. They're excellent and make the thing so much more comfortable to use for extended sessions handheld.

Go OLED because the screen is both larger and looks incredible.

Get a Nintendo Pro Controller or an 8BitDo Pro 2 for docked gaming. Both are excellent.

If you like FPS games the Quake, Dusk, Doom 64, Doom 3, Doom, Doom 2, and Ion Fury ports are fantastic. Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal run well enough along with Wolfenstein New Colossus. Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light and the Crysis games should probably be avoided. The Serious Sam collection is fine aside from the 3rd game which runs like shit. Borderlands 2 runs at 30fps but looks really good on the OLED.

The Resident Evil games all run well. The original REmake is fantastic and 0 is worth playing if you like the fixed camera angles.

Mario + Rabids is underrated and Captain Toad is a must buy.

There are lots of games worth getting:

Streets of Rage 4
Hyper Light Drifter
Bastion
Dead Cells
Hollow Knight
Good Job!
Katana Zero
Luigis Mansion 3
The Hotline Miami Collection
Carrion
Celeste
Deadbolt
Cuphead
Darksiders and Darksiders 2
Rayman Legends
Mark of the Ninja
Risk of Rain
Transistor
Super Mario 3D World
Deaths Door
Spiro Reignighted Trilogy
Okami
Crash Trilogy
Burnout Paradise
Burnout Hot Pursuit Remastered
Ruiner
Splatoon 2 (though 3 is coming)
Cult of the Lamb
The Portal Collection

...there's just so many...

Sales can be good but the store is slow and Nintendo games never drop in price.

Get a good 512gb card if you are going digital. Game install sizes add up quickly and I found 256gb wasn't enough.

Other than that, enjoy your purchase. System is great and it's easy to see why they have sold so well. Standby time is unbelievably good. I don't think you'd be disappointed at all.

OLED is a must if you're going to play handheld, Metroid Dread looks especially nice on it!

The Switch is a great little machine and it complements the other two really well.
