Resident Evil Unreal Engine 5 Fan Remake Is in Development

An unofficial remake of Resident Evil is currently in the works by an independent team. A brief trailer showing how it looks so far was spotted by DSO Gaming. The most interesting thing about this fan-made project is that it's being done in Unreal Engine 5 and will seemingly keep the fixed camera angles and tank controls of the original classic. Due to the engine it's being developed in, it looks pretty fantastic so far. At the time of writing, there doesn't appear to be a release window for this remake.

Fans are always keen to show their love of this long-running and influential franchise. There's the recent Resident Evil 9 concept video that fantastically shows a possible scenario in which the major tyrants of the games make a return, as well as a slew of remakes created by the community. Evidently, the RE games have left a lasting impression on the gaming world, and players just want to see more coming out of the woodwork.

Damn why do people want so many remakes of RE?

That being said, it does look particularly good for a fan project. It would more interesting if weren't yet another RE remake imo

Shadowman remake with unreal engine would be awesome and with some additional story would be fucking neat!!

The original REmake is great as is.

Unlike most of these "fan remakes", this one actually looks surprisingly good.

However, they still need to turn off the ameteur-ish default Unreal motion blur, make the weapon firing animation WAY more punchy (Jill looks like she's firing a squirt gun and slightly moving to avoid a water splash) and add IK to the walking animations, particularly up and down stairs, then they'll have a contender for something really awesome.

I actually really appreciate the fact that they seem to be re-creating the static camera shots 1:1 with near perfect accuracy!

EDIT: Also yeah, get an artist to create a new Jill model ASAP, they can't release anything with ripped models. I'm suspicious of the enemy models too...

These things usually get shut down before the see the light of day

Capcom let the creator of The Resident Evil 4 Fan HD remake finish and release it(I believe creator Albert Marin posts here).

Still, I think fan projects need to stay dead silent until their project is done and released into the wild. Too many get
cease and desisted.

Meh, unnecessary and people keep using Jill's shit RE3-make version of her OG costume. Those tiny shoulderpads look so dumb.

A full 3D version of REmake...for free too! Gimme.

Who knows, could be a good launching point for this dev team to do other projects like making a full version of Resident Evil 3.5 :messenger_smiling_horns:

edit: Also, since this is in full 3D, could be great to enable optional VR for those with headsets

I'd prefer if they put more work into the animations, so that character appear to move more realistically, even if they keep the tank controls. The stiff movements are just immersion breaking.

This one is amazing, just because there are many UE5 fan project doesn't mean it can't be good

Even if somehow they can't finish it, but if enough progress is made, at least it will caught Capcom's attention.

But for me, I'm still waiting for Code Veronica Remake.

I'd love a RE1 Remake (again). But, I don't care about fan projects.

Agreed.

I feel Capcom will end up doing it with over the shoulder, new RE engine ala RE2 remake. Inevitable. One of my favorites in the series, I expect it to be remade along with RE Zero and Code Veronica.

Sleepwalker Sleepwalker lol we all thinking the same thing!

SeraphJan SeraphJan It will get their attention enough to send that cease and desist lol Capcom doesn't need to be reminded to do remakes. I expect them to fully continue that and RE1, Zero and Code Veronica are more inevitable to be remade and its a matter of when.

They decide which to remake based on popularity, if a fan project creates more hype, they will consider it just like RE2 remake, and send that cease and desist in a friendly manner.

Code Veronica is not popular enough at least for them to do a remake, thus they currently have no plans for it, but if the demand is high they will consider it (I think that's what they literally said in one of their tweet last year)

They would never tell us if it was already happening, until they were ready to tell us it was happening lol So I tend to take stuff like that with a grain of salt.

I think you'll see all of the main ones get remade regardless.

The thing with Veronica is that they just did Remake 4 before that, this is kind of evidence by itself they hesitated, lets just hope they will do that after 4.

I'm actually curious if they will ever do 5 and 6 though

Wonder what they gonna do when they get to 5 and 6. I feel 5 is good enough for a remake on the ps6/nextbox but not sure theyd wanna touch 6. Maybe theyll move into dino crisis?

I like re6 btw "pie_tears_joy:

Both 5 and 6 are extremely difficult to convert to classic horror, they are too action heavy.

I imaging it could be done in two ways, 1 is to do a reimaging of both storyline and alter the gameplay completely, 2 is just make action heavy game and don't bother with converting to horror but make the action better

To me, I actually like 6 a lot, the game did a lot of fan services, like showing a grown Sherry, having Leon and Chris interact to each other, the production value and the game length is also unprecedent for a RE game, they did put a lot effort into the game.

It's nice I'll play it for sure. I wish someone or capcom themselves targeted a photorealistic edition of a RE with fixed camera angles....along with the use of photogrammetry and RT. I'm sure the current "next-gen" consoles can handle it...at least in 1080p.

Another "remake" that it's a scenario remake? All these U5 remakes are only scenarios recreated in U5, the easy part to remake with U5. When they start doing gameplay remakes I will be interested.

These are not full games or games remake, in most cases they are public CV reels: “hey, we know how to do stuff in UE5, hire us!”. Or people having fun, but knowing they will not remake the entire game… given how much they shout about the engine by the time they get more gameplay and scenes in UE6 will be out and the remake will be rebooted to pick up the latest buzzwords.

It's a good trailer for a fan made project (finally!).

For a title still in-development, environments look good, but character movement (and animations) needs further tweaking.

Hopefully they'll be able to work on this to the end, without a cease and desist letter from Capcom.

Lmao that’s not how that works. They’ll still take it down because it’s a threat to their remake. C&D incoming
