Desert Golfing is (still) the best mobile game ever made

capsule_616x353.jpg

it's been 8 years and I still find myself playing this game at least once a week

I'm not huge on mobile gaming, but I'll see what new games have come out on my phone every few months or so. to date, nothing has come even close to Desert Golfing.

it's literally perfect. you can pick it up and play for seconds or hours. there are no IAP or micro transactions. it is incredibly simple yet the controls and physics are oddly satisfying. there is something very zen about this game.

the game is also fairly punishing and unforgiving. the only way to see how well you're doing is by checking your score and hole counter. this is impossible to reset. you can't just close and reopen the game and hope to have it reset. it's forever locked in. so if you get completely stuck on a course, there are real tangible consequences.

if you've never played this game, pick it up. I guarantee you it's the best $1 you'll ever spend.

Never heard of this but I'm down for a gold game. I don't play many games on my phone but I did sink hours into Osmos.

I still play angry birds and angry birds 2 from time to time. Never been a big mobile game fan, tried a few games recently and the mx bullshit pissed me off so I ended up uninstalling them. Angry birds was from before all this mx bs started and its better for it.

There are still some awesome games out there you can buy that don't have any microtransactions or adverts in it but given the onslaught of games that have them you have to look out for them.

Not sure if your into cards but hearthstone ive been playing for years never gets boring and still havnt spent more then 8.99 on the game

The only golf game on my phone that I've enjoyed was the Old Original Fairway Solitaire, the old version before it became the standard cellphone free to play garbage that all cell phone games have become.

I bought Mario run ages ago. That's the first and last time I paid for a mobile game. Had a large mobile gaming hiatus... Then recently I downloaded a couple games through netflix gaming. Just as it was a new addition to the higher priced netflix option I'm already on for 4k content.

Poinpy by the guy who made Downwell is great addictive fun with no microtranstions. Highly recommended. Only available through netflix gaming I believe.

The gameplay starts 55 seconds in.

Also playing into the breach through netflix gaming too. Played it on switch but the touch controls work great for this sort of game, on mobile.

I noticed moonlighter was available on there too. But that's one I'd much rather play on switch with proper controllers plus it's in my backlog on there anyway.

Yeah, I don't usually look too hard. I usually just go to the top paid chart and see if there's anything there that looks interesting and doesn't include microtransactions.

I think Battle of Polytopia is one of the best mobile games out there. It's free and there's IAP, but the base game is more than enough. It's fun for shorter sessions, but I enjoyed playing it for about an hour each time. It just hits the spot perfectly.

Playing Dead Cells with touch controls? Yuuuuuck.
It's not that hard.

In fact the controls are quite customizable and after a short period of acclimatization my skill level is quite close to where it was before with a controller.
