All Quest features, but good they have them. Having see through, and the ability to customize play area with warnings is kind of required to even have basic user friendly use these days.
Quest didn't even invent this. It goes as far back as the samsung gear. It's not required because some of the most high end VR devices don't have it but it's nice to have.

For comparison. This is how you map out your play area with Quest

This is how PSVR2 maps your environment before you define your play area, I assume from the 3d recreation of your space.

Wait, it does a 3d scan? How?

Doesn't the quest do the same sort of thing now after an update a while back? I.e. maps out all objects in your room and gets you to rejig the play area if there's any potential hazards. The Quest video is what it used to be like, just not any more

Computer vision with 3d depth reconstruction.

As far as i know, no its still the same setup process but they did release a feature where you can map your room.

I didn't know computer vision worked that well or quickly at mapping 3D. I use Autodesk ReCap and it's very hit or miss. This looks amazing.

It's nothing like Autodesk ReCap, the detail is much much lower although enough for this use case

Basically it's markerless AR (map out the environment to get the 3d representation) - doing this using a single camera has been a solved problem for a decade or so. There were some really good GDC videos from SCEE that explained how the concept worked (instead of just the marketing stuff that 99.99% of AR videos are today) but unfortunately they've been taken down.

In what way is it nothing like it? That uses CV to map to 3D too. If anything this has better spatial awareness due to the positional sensor data

It's quite a different beast to do it in semi real time like PSVR2 does.
The CV algorithms used greatly improve results with the number of iterations done. Adding a semi real time constraint means that it might be using similar algorithms but with a lot less constraints which means that the end result will be much lower fidelity and not comparable to anything done not in real time

looks very cool. Hopefully works somewhat on PC gaming?
With or without Sony's support, I'd bet we have it running and working on PC within 24 hours of launch.

Some things might not work as intendend, such as the haptic feed back and springy triggers.
But as for the display and orientation will most likely work pretty flawlessly.

LOL. No one is going to pay $400-$500 for a product that was $100 less for 2 years. They legit torpedoed themselves, it'll fractionalized their sales. I understand the reasoning, but this is a loss they've got to eat until the Quest 3, where they can price hike it under a guise of spec/technological advances. Imagine the shitstorm of a PS5 or SX increase to $650, that's literally what they're trying.

One has to wonder how much will the Quest 3 now cost when it launches.

Roughly 399USD then I'm assuming?
With Geoff Keighley's Event tomorrow and this sudden pricing; from a site I've never heard of, is it possible we will get a reveal tomorrow?

It seems more and more legit that we are getting a 399$ PSVR2, which is bold move IMO.
If we can get it spoofed as a Quest 2 on PC(Which we already do with PSVR1) going, then its even cheaper then Quest 2 that rised in price just now.
PSVR2 is better then Quest in every way and then 100USD cheaper?!
Only the teathered bit is a downer, but I'll luckly manage this.

400$ is reasonable. There is no computer hardware inside. Just sensors and screen. So it technically should be cheaper than quest2...
And the tracking is inside-outside. Not expensive laser base stations like valve does

Quest 2 isn’t $499. How would a $399 PSVR2 be $100 cheaper?

They are entirely different things as far as the market is concerned, since one is self contained and the other needs to be tethered to a powerful machine. ‘Better in every way’ makes sense only if you’re solely talking about PCVR.

Valve’s Index HMDs are sold with pretty high markups, though. The profit margins must be substantial.

I wonder how much they’re targeting for their upcoming self contained ‘deckard’ HMDs.

It says below…

We Will Be In Touch Just As Soon As We Have A Confirmed Price

And Date For Release

They know nothing.

PSVR2 includes HDR OLED instead of non-HDR LCD, higher resolution, higher field of view, eye tracking, haptic feeback in the headset plus the bundled controllers.

Quest 2 instead has the optional wireless connection and the cheap mobile phone hardware inside for standalone stuff.

PSVR2 sounds more expensive to me. I think 400$ makes sense for PSVR2 pricing on Sony's side, but would be too expensive to turn it mainstream at that price.

Yeah when you put it like that, it really is high end stuff. but it's not wireless.
I will be happy to pay 400$ for it... 500 less so but I will do it

Wireless would mean PS3 visuals again like in PSVR1. With PSVR2 they aim for AAA PS5 visuals, so it's wired to a console.

Hey guys, I heard this as a single wire, this true?
No multiple wires required, no webcam next to the tv required, no trackers across the room required.

The PSVR2 setup will be only a headset connected to a PS5 via a single USB cable (the heaset has cameras and sensors to do the tracking).

I don’t know what it is, but I’ve never had a smooth experience with Alyx on PC. I’d love it on a console.
I have an AMD 3700x with a Vega 64 and I can run Alyx silky smooth wireless with my quest but only using virtual desktop. If I use the quest link it stutters. I ce you tweak the game and your PC you will get it smooth

I play most my VR games sitting on a chair. You don't need a huge play space.
yeah but things like beat saber im not going to be able to try without smashing something lol my room is literally tiny and cant move the furniture around to accommodate. i tried the quest and was always bumping in the guardian

I would think wireless for PSVR2 would mean its still tethered to PS5, just without a wire...essentially it would act as a portable display where the game data is wirelessly streamed to the headset from the console no?

Essentially it wont have a computer core to run games (a la Quest 2), just innards to ensure smooth lag free gameplay. This is how i imagine it anyway.

I play vr in a tiny space. Basically where my coffee table was occupying before I push it out of the way. (if I had more space, I could use much of it becasue it's a psvr, but that's beside the point.)

Beat saber, tho... You only need to be able to take a step to the right or left and duck. You don't have enough room for that? Damn. I actually lived in a place that small once. I had to get tiny furniture and a twin bed.

i know its sucks with all my future in there's like not much room to swing a cat lol may need to sling out the sofa and sit on the floor.

Please Sony give us a proper Spiderman VR !!!

Did you try the PSVR PS4 Spiderman game? I feel they were looking at that things downloads to gauge interest. I personally haven't launched it yet but swinging and flying upside down like that would be pretty disorientating.

Yes I tried it but the graphics are too terrible to enjoy it. It's not even PS1 level lol.
But still the first jump from the roof is fun.
I can only imagine what that would do with proper graphics and vr headset.
Fingers crossed !!!

That's exactly what it looks like with things jittering about. 😄

I think they really slowed down the swings and added no pivot too so people don't throw up.

I am both amazed and terrified at the idea of jumping off buildings and navigating the roofs of buildings in a Mirrors Edge -esque fashion in good graphics with eye tracking. I don't think I'm ready.
