Microsoft is not planning to increase prices of Xbox Series X/S

I posted this in the other thread, but I'm going to reiterate it here, and note I'm not just talking about gaming companies, but all companies.

When I think about how much profit some of these companies have made off me (not just in gaming,) It's insulting to see them gouge and pass costs on, in the name of more short term record profits, instead of eating some of these margins during this (transitory :messenger_grinning_sweat: ) inflation.

I will go out of my way to support companies in the future that chose to not chase short term profits now at the expense of the consumer. The ones that did, and gouged the hardest will never see another dime from me, as long as I have an alternative.

That's the galling thing about almost all this type of thing, whether it's gaming companies talking about how they need to raise the price of games or just in general, not just with prices but with wage increases etc. Everyone is always crying poor when it's convenient while rocking all-time high profit margins.

Because they don't sell much in other countries where Sony raised the pricing. Also Microsoft is worth 2 + trillion so they can eat the tiny loss for the good will. Instead they're cut down on any good games they would release for Gamepass.

You talking about redfall and starfield delay?

I particularly love how that's framed as if the xbox division it's self isn't profitable. Some would call the recent acquisitions as investments vs "burning".
It’s the only possible defense because if MS is making bank without increasing its prices, how do you justify Sony raising theirs?

This kind of self-delusion is a necessity if you want to get past the absolute bullshit move Sony pulled.

This is a standard PR response, "nothing is changing today but we're constantly evaluating the market".
But Microsoft has all the money to afford to absorb inflation, higher manufacturing and shipping costs and adverse currency changes so I don't think they're going to increase prices.
Although nothing can be ruled out, as already reported they already increased prices in India and a while ago they tried (and failed) to double the price of Live Gold so who knows.

Fuck India, amirite?

This hand-wringing over India surely is weird. You probably know that if Sony were to increase PS5 price in India and no where else, nobody here would really care.

Don’t need to increase.

MS is quite sizable alternate businesses that fund their Xbox hobby.

Xbox is getting free good press right now. That's my point. It's an unforced error in terms of timing, and marketing strategy. Just weird. Most people would bury this on a Friday or something. But if you think this is great marketing news, then I stand corrected.
In fairness, companies tend to drop bad news during busy news cycles. They hope all the "noise" keeps the negative press from solely focusing on it. Also, put it out early so the outcries die out before their next showing.

I think if there was ever a time for Nintendo to release a switch pro/2. Now would be that time. Sonys behind in sales and raising prices , ms is just twiddling their thumbs.. now it’s time for switch pro with BOTW 2!

It's still increasing over their price before... to the consumer.

Ok, mental gymnastics.
The scale of the move Sony is making is obviously unprecedented. The attempts to pull attention to a small market price adjustment and claim it's somehow equivalent just seems disingenuous, especially when the adjustment still puts the product under the MSRP of the competition.

Yes MS raised the price in India. Should one expect that to lessen the astonishment/surprise of the almost global price increase by one of the world's largest gaming companies Sony? I think it would be silly to expect that in today's "news/journalism" landscape. Of course your are going to get pushback by making the comparison.

Actually doing my own research into the matter, the price increase in India was so massive you can somehow pick up a Series S for cheaper then the original price.

Xbox Series X pricing is the same (despite being out of stock):

Truly Microsoft is the worst.

India represents roughly 0.05% of the entire console market. It's an absolute juggernaut and as such deserves a 30 page thread of pure, unfiltered outrage over the heinous Xbox price increase. We just have to ignore the fact that in India, Xbox is still 20% cheaper than PS5, even after the price hike :messenger_pensive:

Oh, I can agree with this. Don't forget lots and lots of waring and trolling, since, videogames.

I don't think I would see 99% of these people wasting their breath in every other consumer increase subreddits.

Geico forums must be LIT!

True, but they aren't burning money. I don't know why people keep saying this. Outside of purchases the Xbox biz is profitable and has been for a while.

Even the purchases could be looked at as profitable, since both were profitable companies on there own (not a lot of information on Bethesda, but looking at the latest that was available they were in the black).

Actually the PS5 and XSX are the same price, that article is just very badly written.

Also, despite the supposed increase the consoles are still going for the original (or even cheaper) prices.

Just because a console maker is losing money on hardware isn't a new thing. Sony is just riding the demand of it's unit, why lose more due to inflation if you think you can still sell units?
The second they start sitting on shelves they will make the adjustment. And honestly, at this point, I suspect neither loses money on the hardware.
